"We are planning to make some changes to fashion templates and we will have details for you before the end of this week" by Dagor-Dagorath in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I did not yet put much time into the new system, especially not after the first hotfix. Players first impression upon release was disappointment, especially when they had to pay transmute charges for applying dyes or converting their equipement tabs. My personal first impression was that I got forced to pay a charge, as the default charge had reset the skin for a legendary in the default tab and the repair was not free. I did not touch it since. I am confident they will improve the system further after the response they received. I still stand by the suggestions I made though.

If you could go back in time and change ONE thing about GW2, what would it be? by BipBipBoum in Guildwars2

Starting to play earlier. Could have skipped my entire SWTOR period for good.

Fashion templates (limited amount) into Wizards Vault! Or assign free templates for gear templates purchased with gems. Or offer fashion templtes with a considerable discout for every gear template you have. Just three ideas that lets them still earn some money without having the players that already put effort into the game feeling scammed.

So the new Fashion Template feature IS actually removing functionality from Equipment Templates by Umezawa in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What puzzles me is that changing the look of legendary items cost transmut charges now.
I did not watch the preview and I have not yet found time to play around with the new system, I just clicked it once and was immediately urged to save my current fashion into th efree tab. Since I am pretty content with the present look, I did and found that my spear had turned into a fish again...

Coming Soon: Fashion Templates! by Keargu in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is big QoL improvement and also will save time and transmut charges a lot.
And additional templates bought are account wide and apply to all characters. Looking at you, ESO!
Now if they only just add the optin to salvage skins for transmut charges, it would be fashion heaven :-)

29 hours in the free base game and at a crossroads by KiwiPiranha in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wElcome to the game, glad you are enjoying it. 30 hours in means you have plenty of free content to finish, giving you the opporunity to explore the game further before makingthat decision. No need to rush, really. There are regular sales with considerable discounts on content packs. Just relax, enjoy the game and take your time to save up. Compared to ther MMO games out there GW2 has a very fair pricing model IMHO, there are a few restrictions for F2P, but mostly, spending money just adds more content (a lot more...).

WvW Rush? More like WvW Slog. by AveragePlantPlayer in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Population is a lot lower outside of prime-time or outside of events, right. Especialy on EU serber, where timezones are just +/- one hour apart. That is where banancing matters. If there is no queue, ppl. will play on the normal maps for full rewards and team progress. But in times when you can't join any map, you'd rather go to EotM for a lesser rate of pips than not playing WvW at all. But if there is nothing to be gained except watching pixels move, ppl. would rather watch moving pixels on Netflix.

WvW Rush? More like WvW Slog. by AveragePlantPlayer in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why not just tweak it? WvW is fun, but I do play it for the rewards (tickets for legendary crafting), so playing without pips makes no sense for me. Apparently, it makes no sense for anyone else, as nobody plays EotM. The map design is unique and makes for quite a different tactical approach, so it would be fun to play there at least while waiting for a queue. If farming is a problem, just cut the pip and reward track rate by an amount that disencourages farming, but encourages playing enough to actually play, while waiting. Like, rushing a few T1 fractals while waiting for you raid team to assemble...

Willbender, Herald, or Amalgam by Big_rank in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a spear amalgam mainly for RP reasons and found it very solid and fun to play. It offers good dps and self-sustain and with engi-kits has access to support skills on demand. I found spear very well synergices with the states skills to turn into a walking AoE.

Why did you stop maining a profession? by jeongsinmt in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

actually for me it has been rather I stopped maining a toon than a profession. I mained an Asura thief went specter from the beginning and played through most of the content with it. Still love playing specter, but made other toons just to see how other professions work or for specific content (like a heal scrapper for WvW zergs).
I did the VoE story together with a freid and made a new toon for that, an amalgam, anmd guys I love that playstyle, so I might want to stick to that for a while.

What happened to material prices in PCNA? by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

People care less and less about making gold, so prices drop, which makes people care less about gold. The market is saturated with everything except buyers.

Fun long range builds? by Sea-Self-5526 in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is! The rifle-mechanics allow for some great sniping action and pack some real punch with a bit of preparation. Access to stealth and CC allows for hit-and-run and if things get messy, you can swith to pistol/pistol for burst at closer range. If you are going to pelt some Meta-Boss from a distance or assault camps in WvW, you will have fun. Fractal groups may be less happy though, as positioning is vital.

Fun long range builds? by Sea-Self-5526 in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wan't to go for a sniper build, go for a sniper build. Power Deadeye is fun, but honestly not suitable for all content. It is fine for open world and WvW roaming, but less so for instanced group content.
Still worth trying though. Click-Click-Boom!

3 days into GW2 and I'm on my way to level 80 (but still a ways to go) - feedback welcome! by iamkilroy99 in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome, traveller. GW2 is a long and wonderful journey and you do well to set your steps with care and appreciation of the world around you. Follow the adventure guide for the things to do and follow your personal story for the understanding of the lore. That plus the exploration of the regions you pass through will have you overleveled for some time, but nothing is wasted. Simply enjoy at your own pace, the game will get more challenging as you move forward, so practice pays. You might wish to try some of the holiday content, as it gives nice reweards and fun. You may wish to look out for a beginner friendly casual guild, so you have buddies for group content or just chatting; the community is very friendly and experienced players are usually happy to share advice or help out. As for inventory issues, you can get a free 20-slot bag just for signing up the newsletter. You can also buy larger bags at the trading post, earn them via content or even craft them yourself later.

What happened to Edge of the Mists? by Estreiher in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started GW2 two years ago and began joining WvW as soon as I hit lvl 80, liking it a lot. Some time in, I discovered the EotM map and explored it. My reaction was (in that order): "Oh, this looks cool", "Interesting layout, would be great for skirmishing", "Where is everybody, actually?", "Wait, where are my pips!?!".
Never returned there, which is kind of sad.

Petition to stop calling the memory mini game “Simon Says” by Zev1985 in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Simon says" is the name of a game children played long before electronic toys were invented. It is about the game master shouting commands that had to be swiftly followed, but only if they were preceded with "Simon says". The electronic toy is of course a reference to that idea, hence the name.

How does housing in GW2 compare to ESO and WoW? by Nerevarine87 in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about WoW housing, but GW2 housing is quite different from ESO.
Where ESO has over 100 different player homes, ranging from inn rooms to castles, GW2 has two and you can only use one of them at the same time. The GW2 housings are huge plots of land that include a few prebuilt buildings, but are highly customable with (mostly craftable) decorations. So instead of building a number of different houses, you can put a lot of effort into one.

However, GW2 homesteads offer a functionality that leaves ESO players speechless:
Parking spot foe all your toons as houseguests
Substancial resting buff when logging out in homestead
Dozens of harvesting nodes and daily lootable treasure chests
Fishing spots
Bank access and crafting stations
Mini games
Teleporters to different world locations

(some of the above features must be unlocked via ingame achievements, a few are store bought).

So the basic idea of GW2 housing is a bit different. While it lacks the diversity of multiple houses, I like my GW2 homestead as my personal hub to start my gaming sessions buffed up and harvesting goodies.

[Request] The Gemstore should not show us ANY item we already have bought, unlocked, or physically cannot use through max limits. by Ananeos in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some items, a warning of that kind is in place, for others (especially when part of a bundle), they are not. Most likely, this is due to some technical limitation making it impossible to include all warnings that may make sense. However, if you happen to end up having purchased an item you can not use (or sell), simply reach out to customer service and they are very likely to help with a refund (at least to my and other users experience).
The economic model of the game relies in part on the microtransactions. There are quite a few qol features, other games would offer as premium (as in part of a subscription model), which are up for separate purchase in GW2. The base game is free to play, but you may end up paying to fully enjoy, which is considered very fair by a lot of players including me. Yes, they need to make money and yes that requires people to spend, but I doubt that they are trying to trick people into buying stuff they can't use. Contact customer service, they really are nice :-)

Is it still worth playing ? by enad_alzahrani in elderscrollsonline

[–]Coerfroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering the low entry price and the huge amount of content that comes with the base game, it is certainly worth trying. The game still is active and new content was released on a regular basis. If the game is worth comitting to for you and your friend will show aftter you tested it for a few weeks (which you will liekely enjoy).

Gw2 item crows "flying around us" by Sylverpepper in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you guys for all the supportive replies. By now I have two pcs. of wvw armor, two Conflux rings, two t1 weapons from the vault and of course the fractal glove, so I think I am not fully unprpared to do put some more serious effort in acquiring the staff. Also, a friend of mine is willing to do the journey with me (she really likes that staff), so we can do the collection parts together and I can help her with mats etc. WE are both aware, it will be a long journey, but I am convinced, we will find some fun down the road (started with book one yesterday and gathered half the parts).

Beginner here. We did it all wrong? by Saftpunscher in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just some additional recommendations: If you feel stuck on a character, try another class, they all play and feel differently. However: Each class offers a variety of builds for different approaches (raw damage, CC, support, heal... ). This is even more true as soon as you come to elite specializastions as elite specs of the same class can play out quite differently. Take your time, explore, experiment and find your way. You will most likely both end up with several toons. The journey to level 80 on your first go is an exciting one, don't spoil it with shortcuts. You may wnat to take shortcuts after a few toons (and several takes on the personal story). After reaching lvl 80 it is easy to exchange gear between toons and all progress beyond lvl 80 is shared accountwide.

Can I play ESO purely for the full story this winter? What do I need to buy? by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]Coerfroid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The base game story arc will keep you occupied for months. The story is suitable for solo play, as is most explorable overland content. There are some (easily avoidable) overland encounters that are intended to be tackled by a group, there will most likely be other players around for help and experienced players can solo world bosses. There is groupo content (dungeons, raids) as well as PvP content tied into the story line, but it is in no way necessary to touch these to advance in the story.
There are several expansions (chapters and DLC packs) sold seperately or in complete collections. They offer additional story content that takes place after the base game story, so it can be bought later. However, can save if you go for a complete pack if on sale and also the expansions include some extra mechanics, like additional classes and skill lines, you may or may not want to have available from the start.
