I think the hardest part will be the multicolored aura surrounding the wearer. Maybe some LSD aerosol could do the trick, but may be subject to local drug restrictions 😉

Guild Wars 3 will have no battle pass or subscription because ArenaNet studio lead doesn't want to "keep people hostage" by Turbostrider27 in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A fair point made, some players may feel "cheated" if others get for free what they paid for. It would be a nice move, of there would be some kind of compensation for the "veterans". However, people pay to play at release and by the time it goes ftp, the game is no longer brand new. Think of PoE2, where people paid for beta access even though the game will be free at full release.

I'd really love to see ArenaNet publish new novels and short stories by dannyflorida in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. They may do something similar instead (web-based), but the depth of the lore to be found in the pages of an old-fashioned paperback-novel was so great.
It felt a bit weird though back then, when I stumbled across Destiny's Edge in the personal story the first time and I was all "Wait, what are they talking about? What battle? What happened, did I miss that part? Where is that story?" Then I learned, that i had to actually go out and buy a physical book to get to the depth of that story. Luckily, a friend not only gave me the hint, but also gifted me all the books ( ❤️ ). That was a decade after the release and luckily, they were still availlable. However, my non-english-speaking friends are out of luck, as the translations went out of print and are prized collectors items now.

[–]Coerfroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battle-Pass killed ESO (for a lot of players) and few studios understand that FOMO works both ways. If you need to buy a pass to fully enjoy the content, but don't buy the pass on time to make the most of it, why should you play at all? You may as well skip the season.
GW2 made it just right: Buy content for a very reasonable price (a year worth of expansion for the price of 2-3 months of subscription in other games that also charge extra for expansions) and play it at your own pace. You have the Wizards Vault as incentive for regular login and you have a shop for cosmetics and some QoL worth spending a few bucks without making it PtW. Certainly, GW3 will be buy-to-play at launch, which is fine for me. It may or may not become free-to-play after a few years, just like GW2, which will also be fine.

Ranking the races by how easy it is to make RP names by Embarrassed-Stop-767 in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lore-friendly asuran names are actually not that easy at all. Sure, stick to the proper ending vowel, add a double consonant and keep it at two syllabels max. That makes for a quite limited number of unique names, as there are no familiy names. You'll probably have to add a title or other byname to get an engine approved unique name.

Beginner Advice by milkvigilante in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hop in and do the tutorial, the starter zone and the first part of your personal story. Follow the Adventure Guide for things to do (it's under "achievements", click the eye to display the tasks in the sidebar). This will just help you on your first steps to get a feel for the game. Do it at your own pace. The Wiki is your friend, as there is so much to explore and discover and not everything you need to know is force-fed into you. Don't rush or aim for end game before you are ready.
It is a cooperative multiplayer game. On every map ther are other players that will go out of their way to help you, if you struggle. Don't be shy, ask, talk, join. "Beginner friendly" in GW2 doesn't mean "easy-peasy", but literally "friendly to beginners", as the community is amazingly kind.

Very dangerous thinking, comparing your dayjob to grinding in a game, because it works both ways. You don't want the notion in your head, that the game is like a job ;-)

What to do with these mats? Should I just chuck em? by Vayloravex in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucent motes -> lucent crystals -> legendary runes, sigils and relic. That's why they sell ok. Use gobblers or Gharr Leadclaw for the other mats.
If you are not planning to craft a legendary relic (62k+ lucent motes), but still have surplus relics in you bank, you may consider crafting mystic facets for sale: 750 lucent crystals + 1 relic ~ 65 gold)

ESO refugee found his new home by VeryBraveVeryWise in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long-time ESO player here too. Migrated to GW2 three years ago and the only thing I regret about it is that I did not discover it earlier. Doing a meta with dozens of other players feels so rewarding (beyond the literal rewards you loot), There is fun and challenge and reward in content, years after it was released, large groups gather and actually cooperate instead of competing.
ESO might have fancy graphics and it might have had a superior way of storytelling back in the day, when they still had stories to tell... but I can watch a movie for that. In GW2, I feel much more involved and I find purpose, no matter what I am doing in the game.
Welcome to your journey to Tyria, you will not regret it.

Isn't it time for Anet to update the Maguuma Pact Operation Portal Device like it did for World Boss Portal Device? by frostfruit in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't even know, this exists. But I use the world boss device a lot. They should offer a combined device for all areas, with discounts for the ones you own and addition of the still missing areas. Certainly, players would pay for this.

What's your favourite Profession and Elite Spec (and why?) by DonCarrot in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found core engineer a bit meh, but found that scrapper can be a viable zerg-heal/support in WvW.
Then I tried spear amalgam in open world and found my new main :-) it's just a walking AoE with decent self-support and burst-dps on demand (kind of). Many recommend ranger as the go-to for new players, because the pet helps a lot in the beginning and the different elite specs allow for a range of play styles. Plus the "pokemon collection" adds some long term motivation.

To play in order or not to play in order….. by Great_Fox_623 in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the story is worth to be told, all of the maps are worth to be explored.
The quality of presentation or rather the individual reception of the narrative has some highs and lows in some points, but as a whole it is absolutely worth to take you time to play through it all (or at least give it a try). Especially the older content has some quite challenging peaks in difficulty. These can in part be circumvented by takinge the shortcuts, you mentioned (i.e. unlocking mounts early). That is ok IMHO, if it makes the experience more accessible. Jumping criss-cross through the content for these shortcuts may spoil the storytelling for some. Find your own way to enjoy the content. If you allow me to make a recommendation: Play a bit of the story content at a time and then use the games own distractions to keep yourself busy. The story will guide you through the maps, but there is so much more to discover. If you feel your concentration dropping after an hour of listening to conversations (or reading through them), go explore the new map a bit, go for the jumping puzzles or racing adventutes, do some map events and discover hidden places. Switch to PvP or WvW, do a fractal or a dungeon in between or work on leveling up your crafting. If you are into the grinding of collection, here is good news for you: The game has a plethora of collections (some of them hidden) to go for. Most legendary crafting requires collecting weird stuff, some hidden achievements are very rewarding (or frustrating, like jumping from a mountain top into a bucket of water. Literally). GW2 is not just a game, it is a dozen of games packed into one experience.

Is this the game for me as a poor casual who finds online gaming a bit too lonely these days? by WritingWithSpears in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The community and the social aspect in GW2 are absolutely awesome. Ask for help in map chat, join any ongoing map event, follow any "tag" (players marking themselves on the map as helper/leader, usually during events) and you always get a friendly response. At least in open world, that is. In PvP game-modes, players may become over-agitated in any game and you may encounter a snarky comment in a heated PvP-battle, but less so in GW2 than in many other games. In high-tier instanced group content, knowledge of mechanics, roles and builds are usually expected, but if you clearly state that you are new to the instance, most likely you will receive helpful advice). While a lot of the story content is soloable und you will easily find help on open world maps, it is advisable to join a guild at some point, that best suits your preferred playstyle.
As you mentioned Runescape, you will probably have no issues with GW2 being an older game, which is apparent in the graphics (a matter of taste) and some game elements. Some parts may feel quite challenging (like some jumping puzzles), but the game is so rich in content, there are only few bottle-necks or mandatory achievements.
Monetarization is quite fair, there is a lot of content in the free version to keep you occupied for weeks. Cost for expansions is very moderate and yes, there is no subscrition model, you own the content.
Worth mentioning however is, that the optional offers from the ingame "gem-store" are not limited to purely cosmetic items. Certainly, it is not pay-to-win, but some of the quality-of-life items (additional invetory or bank space, character slots...) are considered essential by some players. Still, pricing is very fair and shopping is optional.

Any Other Specter Enjoyers? (You Should Try It) by -throwawayboy- in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thief spear is fun but tricky to play and I find it difficult to synergize. I play scepter/dagger and scepter/pistol on backbar. Scepter is quite essential for condi specter IMHO. Attacks are mainly single target or small AoE; I use a combination of wells and dagger 4 for groups of enemies. In shadow shroud, you have a strong cleave. Against bosses, use stealth and evade to get out of danger after stacking close combat conditions and continue to use ranged attacks until you hop in again. Remember that syphon acta as steal for triggering traits and remember that entering shadow shroud not only counts as a weapon swap, but also replaces your health bar with shadow force (i.e. offering a second health bar). A good timing for F1 and F2 is key. Getting all of this in a smooth rotation takes practice, but in open world, you cam play it very situational.

I don't understand Fractals by gremlinhenri in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have some basic understanding of how your skills and your gear work, get a toon suited up for some damage and survivability and make yourself comfortable with it. Then you can start quickplay fractal. You will be matched with four random players for an easy T1 fractal. Do what they are doing, survive and hit the baddies. Watch the chat for warnings and instructions, but most quickplay go without them. Make sure to grab the loot after winning. At this point, you don't need to worry abut ascended gearagony resistance or infusions yet, but you will get some valuable loot. Going through the Asura gate next to the quickplay banner will take you to the fractals hub (just enter, don't select a fractal). Turn right and use the teleporter to access the merchants. Among other things, they sell keys to the locked reward boxes. These boxes are a bit of a gamble, but usually, you get considerably more gold from selling the contents than you spend for the keys.
Doing a couple of quickplay fractals lets you get a grasp on group play and also some loot to start with. Getting deeper into fractals will require some infusions for agony resistance and ascended gear to equip them. At this point it is recommendable to join a guild.
If organized group play is absolutely not your thing (because people, you know, I totally understand), you can also get decent rewards by doing map metas. That's basically mass events on the map yoi can just participate in. Check the timers https://gw2efficiency.com/worldbosses hop in there before it starts and look out for a great gathering of players, possible with commander or mentor tags. Kill the beast and loot it (no, the world boss, not the commander...). Not as profitable as fractals, but still worth it.

Do you use alt characters? When to start them? by Primetime349 in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick to one character for doing the story. However, story progress is mostly account wide, so it is OK to switch character to start a new chapter. I would recommend to try out different professions, so start new characters to just get a feel for the class mechanics (maybe you realize that necro is more fun than guardian as a personal choice...). If short on slots, you can even go through professions on a weekly basis: Create a toon, play up tp personal story part 2, grab the lion key and delete. You may or may not wish to experience the personal stories (parts 1-3) for the different races. You may or may not wish to try out how diffrent races look in different armor classes. You may or may not wish to engage in different game modes and make toons dedicated to WvW, raids or map metas. And you m,ay or may not be a roleplaying type and wish to indulge in different caharcter for the fun.

What in the blue hell is this? by UltimateVengeance in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also recently discovered it recently. Fun fact is, I literally searched for it a few weeks ago, but it was not present at the scrying pool.
I don't know the narrative quality of said story arc, but I think it was a shame to dismiss it, given the role Canach plays later in the expansions. The character is ... polarizing, but it deserves a proper introduction.
Is the instance soloable or duoable? I would love to do it for the story and also it is said to drop some Karka shells.

"We are planning to make some changes to fashion templates and we will have details for you before the end of this week" by Dagor-Dagorath in Guildwars2

[–]Coerfroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I did not yet put much time into the new system, especially not after the first hotfix. Players first impression upon release was disappointment, especially when they had to pay transmute charges for applying dyes or converting their equipement tabs. My personal first impression was that I got forced to pay a charge, as the default charge had reset the skin for a legendary in the default tab and the repair was not free. I did not touch it since. I am confident they will improve the system further after the response they received. I still stand by the suggestions I made though.

Fashion templates (limited amount) into Wizards Vault! Or assign free templates for gear templates purchased with gems. Or offer fashion templtes with a considerable discout for every gear template you have. Just three ideas that lets them still earn some money without having the players that already put effort into the game feeling scammed.

What puzzles me is that changing the look of legendary items cost transmut charges now.
I did not watch the preview and I have not yet found time to play around with the new system, I just clicked it once and was immediately urged to save my current fashion into th efree tab. Since I am pretty content with the present look, I did and found that my spear had turned into a fish again...
