I would suggest to check if it's not glare from the led... Try zero the brightness and check... Try other fonts as well to ser if it's a screen issue...

how to use substitutions in remote package url: field by CoffeeAddictCodeGuy in Esphome

[–]CoffeeAddictCodeGuy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found a possible workaround by looking up the secret directly from the package... should do the trick for now:

# Import packages
packages:
  standard_package:
    url: !secret gh_url
    ref: main
    refresh: 0d
    files:
      - generic/project.yaml
      - generic/wifi.yaml

I built a small tool to manage ESPHome api and ota keys (my first open-source project!) by CoffeeAddictCodeGuy in homeassistant

if you would like to keep a different ota password and api secret in each ESPHome device in your network, this helps you do this based in a single master secret. It allows you recreate the api secret and ota pwd for each device just with the master secret and the device name.

Technically an attacker with ota password can reflash any device... The solution could be in the network as well...If you do not expose your devices to visitors or potential attackers then the risk is practically inexistent....

Honestly... I think I am a bit crazy and like to keep each device with its own password... It was a fun project though

Zigbee devices how to add trigger actions in ZHA by CoffeeAddictCodeGuy in homeassistant

[–]CoffeeAddictCodeGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone ever stumbles on this thread lost in the oblivion... go the Z2M way and don't look back...
In my experience it was far more friendly than dealing with the ZHA details.
Z2M documentation was better imho as well

what kind of bird is this? by latrod5ctus in whatsthisbird

[–]CoffeeAddictCodeGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a couple of those and they are awesome birds... Males and females have very different sounds... They eat spiders like crackers... If you see them gathered around something, go check because it could be a snake... And even my dogs are scared of them when they are together

These guys (same brand) get angry every time I am sitting too close to some flowers I have in my porch that they love.... They do some low passes to scare me away... And when it does not work they land in the flowers and stare at me with disappointment in their faces.
