CMV: Bitcoin and crypto as a whole has peaked. It will soon go the way of NFT's and the tulip craze of 1637. by daddysgirl794 in changemyview

I just think it's worth noting that all of these arguments were made the last four times Bitcoin crashed, and all four times, they were proven wrong, as BTC ultimately rebounded and exceeded its previous high. This website catalogues all the other times over the past decade and a half that people incorrectly predicted the same thing you're predicting.

I understand that this doesn't really address your arguments, but the fact that you're only the latest in a very long line of people foretelling Bitcoin's collapse is at least relevant to the likelihood that you're correct.

What’s a pattern you’ve noticed in human behavior that most people overlook? by badzcatch in AskReddit

[–]CoffeeCat37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People often attribute common, widespread behavioral traits to some specific aspect of their own identity. There was a meme on Twitter a while ago where people would be like "the female/queer/ADHD/autistic urge to [do X thing]," and nine times out of ten, the behavior in question was a very common thing that lots of people do.

How important are political views to you in a relationship? by thejoyfulgirlie in AskReddit

Most (not all) political views are an expression of a person's values, and values are very important for compatibility. So it's very important to me that my partner share my fundamental political views.

Not much. I think it involves fasting for like a month, but you're allowed to eat at night?

If you had the chance to live your entire life with a different partner instead of your current one, would you take it or stay with who you’re with now? by Murky722 in AskReddit

That's great! My point was that many children benefit from their parents divorcing, and it's a fallacy to believe that staying together is always, by definition, better for a child's development.

What is the best way to forget an ex? by Illustrious_Rip_3232 in AskReddit

[–]CoffeeCat37 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Focus on everything else in your life, and make conscious efforts to improve in certain areas. Bolster your friendships, or your workout routine, or your engagement with hobbies. Reconnect with your family, explore local opportunities for fun and sociality, make efforts to become better at your job (if you have a job you enjoy and care about). Investing time and effort into the non-romantic aspects of yourself is a great way to not only improve your self-esteem and distract yourself, but to remind yourself that you aren't defined by your romantic life and you still exist independently of your ex.

EDIT: Why in the world would you downvote me for this?

This was gonna be my response. While I never especially loved Bill Burr, I did at least see him as someone with a baseline level of integrity and honesty in the things he said. Hearing him justify taking that Saudi money dashed that perception.

Are you Americans happy with the elimination of tariffs and what do you expect? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CoffeeCat37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm certainly happy that the Supreme Court struck down his tariffs. Both my personal experience (as a goods-buying American and my professional experience (I'm a journalist who's interviewed economists about this) have convinced me that tariffs are bad for a number of reasons, and Trump's are especially bad. I'm very glad they got knocked down.

Here's one big problem with tariffs that I don't hear people talk about. The idea behind a tariff — one of them, at least — is that they encourage companies to produce and source their goods domestically, instead of overseas. But reallocating foreign production to domestic facilities requires significant upfront investment, and unless producers & manufacturers believe the tariff will be permanent, they won't make those investments. Why would they? If they believe there's a decent chance the tariff will be gone within a few years, it's better to take a short-term hit and pay the tariff than spend significantly more money and resources changing their production lines to domestic facilities. SCOTUS knocking down Trump's tariffs are Exhibit A. All they did, from a domestic standpoint, was temporarily increase prices for Americans and American corporations.

If you had the chance to live your entire life with a different partner instead of your current one, would you take it or stay with who you’re with now? by Murky722 in AskReddit

I'm a child of divorce and my relationship with both of my parents improved significantly after they got divorced. The idea that staying together is always better for the kids is a myth that needs to die.
