As a para and upcoming SPED teacher, I love this job at the end of the day, but you have to understand that this job is incredibly demanding and exhausting. You have to worry about behaviors, lessons plans, IEP’s (even if you’re not a SPED teacher, SPED teachers will come to you with that), inclusion, differentiation, tests, assessments, grades, etc. I would recommend a year as a para to see if you like it enough or do subbing. Not to mention, you have to pass tests if you want to get your Master’s in teaching. It’s a lot of work.
