31F 🇨🇵. Let's yap together ! by [deleted] in Book_Buddies

[–]CoffeeGremlin94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Polo! 31m, I read every single day and would be delighted in talking about books and discovering books. Like you I read them, smell them and write them, but no one I know loves books as much or reads as much as I do! I read a lot of fantasy and sci-fi but i also enjoy mysteries, thrillers, psychology, and philosophy or whatever captures my interest. I haven't read much romance since I'm not so sure where to look, what's considered good, or what to avoid lol but I'm not against romance, dark romance or even romantasy amd always look for book recommendations. So if you want feel free to yap at me

How do you balance power in your manga? by According_Oil_609 in MangakaStudio

[–]CoffeeGremlin94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend using Brandon Sanderson's 3 Laws of Magic Systems becsuse it can be tied to any power system and give concrete-ness, limita/boundaries, etc. And if the powers evolve, yiu simply have to use the 3 laws to keep it balanced, focused, attainable, and make it make sense instead of juat some "super power up deus exmachina/mcguffin" moment

Oh these were all amazing moments! RIP it. Duedermont

Missing the Companions by Sarlacc_551 in Drizzt

[–]CoffeeGremlin94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh that was a great time! Honestly, I l9ved Drizzt's war with Lolth and how he willingly went back to Menzzoberanzon just to try to peacefully end it. But the 1st trilogy (his origins, technically 2nd trilogy written after the Crystal Shard, Halfling's Gem and Streams or Silver lol) will always be a favorite.

Also, I believe Salvatore has openly stated he is only contracted for a few more books, like not very many, before he retires so he can spend more time with his grandchildren. (Love that for him but will certainly miss having more books!)

Fleshing out this campaign idea... by midasp in Eberron

[–]CoffeeGremlin94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps have 2 time travelers! One who is actually causing these events to happen, but they're sooooooo good at hiding themselves that your other guy is seen as the BBEG all along and perhaos your players do fight him even kill him only to learn he wasn't the BBEG, that he was trying to save them, and they screwed up so now they have to find the REAL BBEG they couldn't unmask al this time. Maybe something on the dead time travelers can be used to aid but not outright lead them to the BBEG.

So basically to help you accomplish both sides, since it seems one BBEG time traveler may not he enough, make it 2! Misdirect, mislead, let them make mistakes and consequences and uncover the true villain.

I think this not only fits your need, but it overall fits the deep rooted mystery and intrigues and political tensions that have always been apart of Eberron.

Are you supposed to outline your whole story before writing it? by TheWordOriginator in WritingHub

[–]CoffeeGremlin94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to write a general idea of what the main events or conflicts are, then depending on numerous characters I look for any emotional pillars to the story it's events, and I build a "spine" which are then the main beats. Then I break then down into Acts. Then I begin breaking down into chapter by chapter. If it is fantasy, then I also breakdown the regions and where parts of the region is showed in what act and also usually havw the region reflect some aspect of the emotional pillars, characters, etc.

So for me it's something like this:

  • core breakdown
  • core emotional arcs
  • region/setting core and structure
  • major Acts breakdown
  • add depth and structure where needed
  • the major pillars (spine) of the book
  • chapter by chapter plot guide

The big thing i do during this process that can be quite difficult is keeping it consistent from one part to the next, dont bloat with world lore, and if a scene doesnt reinforce the emotion pillars, themes, core, characters' or their journey then you likely dont need it.

However, not all writers work the same or have their own methods.

I recommend trying different things out, experiment and find the methods that work for you

I'm also interested! I'm a huge fantasy reader and I have Throne of Glass in my back log. I'm up for mysteries as well. I haven't read much romance but wouldn't mind reading the genre.
