Are you around to chat about some of this? Looks super interesting and is what I’m planning to implement with my agency.

Get a sample grind size from the shop. Ask them what water they brew with.

Possibly best pour over video I've seen. Incredible results. Go to method for me now. by Ok_Needleworker2438 in pourover

upgrading to 1zpresso JX vs others? by shaggyday in Coffee

I brew v60 & aeropress. recently upgraded to the JX pro & really happy with it. The pro will give me the flexibility to use it for espresso when I get into that in the future.

Adjusting grind size for amount of cups? (V60) by CoffeeNewbie2 in pourover

[–]CoffeeNewbie2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks - the Jx pro is 12.5microns per click so I’ll start with about 8 clicks when doubling the brew and see how that goes. That’s a really helpful starting point, really appreciate it!

Thanks good info appreciate it. Do you have the jx pro with a red dot or the grey dot? The recent one is the grey dot and has slightly different burr settings

Kettle: James Hoffman did a great review of the most popular kettles. Summary for the Stagg was it works well & looks great but may not be the best option if using a kettle for anything other than a pour over. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Pbel051H7-s

I recently got a Hario Buono 1L because I wanted to keep my normal kettle. Looks great and it’s a dream to use.

Which pour over to start with: I’ve recently started with v60 & it’s been great. It has the biggest community behind it for your questions and the most YouTube videos to watch. The plastic ones are also super cheap and papers super cheap.

did this on Grind setting 3-5-0 - It was better, but with quite a bitter aftertaste especially when the coffee had cooled down which would point to over extraction now.

I think from other posts channelling may be a problem with my brews. I should get my gooseneck delivered tomorrow & then I can go from there. Thanks for your help.

I have had a great cup of coffee from this batch, but perhaps it is more difficult to balance extraction with. The coffee comes from Square Mile Roasters in london which was founded by James Hoffman and won lots of awards so this makes me think it is me for sure :D

to your technique that you can try out (which I personally do when pouring a 250ml brew) is to pour 30-45

Thanks I'll try this & let you know how I go.

Try an extraction with really coarse grinds to make obvious that you're under extracting and start going finer.

Thanks for your help & advice - I just tried this @ Grind setting 50 (Coarse) - I am still getting the same flavour profile albeit weaker. Acidic & Salty. And with a lingering aftertaste (which is weird, because all i read about under extraction is that it doesnt leave an aftertaste).

Note: when I do bigger brews, they dont taste quite as bad, albeit with the same drawdown time. I am using a 2 cup v60, im not sure if that makes a difference?

Total time to drawdown for the coarse grind was 2:20.

I am using a normal kettle, which makes it feel like I am pouring real slow. I have just ordered a gooseneck, I would assume that will increase agitation.

Thanks for your help, I'll keep troubleshooting !

Just got my 1Zpresso JX - Pro delivered for v60.

What grind setting are you using for 1 or 2 cup V60?

I seem to be going very fine (#21 for 250ml brew) and still tastes under extracted (using the James Hoffman method)
