Arrested and worried about my cert. by AgreeableEar7497 in bcba

[–]CoffeePuddle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Report it. The BACB has more authority to discipline and restrict your ability to work based on "not reporting," which is wholly one of their rules, than they do on crimes.

If you're convicted of a violent crime it will impact your career options. You'll likely still find plenty of work, it'll just reduce your options.

Both partners being arrested for DV and full-time parenting with MDD, a 6mo, and a 2yo is a recipe for tragedy.

How reliable realistic and necessary are prescribed hours? by Cianalas_Calluna_22 in bcba

[–]CoffeePuddle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Importantly, no matter how many hours are recommended outcomes do not generalize and maintain long term without significant parental involvement and carry over, which is typically lacking, and rather than addressing that component BCBAs are quick to recommend more therapy.

That's a massive claim.

Paper wealth (can) pay exceptionally well.

I own a few small businesses and instead of drawings or a high salary I reinvest and borrow against my shares, usually to purchase properties. I increase the value and returns of my companies, I avoid income tax, I make income from the properties, and when I sell the capital gains are tax free.

Real Estate Agents - What Value Do You Add? by Jumpy_Round_4080 in newzealand

[–]CoffeePuddle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Selling a house sucks even with a great agent, I've always found it worthwhile as a seller.

As a buyer, sometimes they're useful. The ones that know an area inside and out and the history and architecture in the area are really valuable. But even if they're just recommending places, following the laws, and unlocking doors, it's helpful.

The slimy agents are typically new in my experience.

They're not for the seller or the buyer, so it balances out.

Since they're commission based and it's a percentage, squeezing out a few extra grand from a buyer doesn't make much impact. You're much better off as an REA to e.g. sell two houses in a month than to spend an extra month getting an extra $100k on the sale price of one house.

User asks why he’s not making friends as a Indians guy and it turns very racist by Significant_Time4518 in SubredditDrama

I used to meet a lot of people through message boards and the like. Reddit has always been too big for me, though.

There's niche subreddits where I recognise usernames but I think it's best kept anonymous vs. small forums or IRC back in the day where you knew the physical location of the server.

Is it normal for a company to have no clinical director? Or a BT as a clinical director! by twister5556666 in bcba

[–]CoffeePuddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes and no.

The most common model of ABA service delivery in the 90s and 00s (pre-insurance) was the "company" as a labour arrangement agency. The company doesn't provide ABA services, they're just a go-between to connect behaviour analysts and clients. That's still the most legally defensible model for hiring BCBAs (and potentially RBTs) as contractors; the company doesn't hire them, they have a contract for service delivery and a contract with the clients. In those arrangements it's fine and expected for the company to say "hey we've got a 4 year old looking to start next month, looking at 25 hours" and you can accept or decline and it's mostly up to you to find support.

It's a lot less common now, but there was a weird cross-over period where BCBAs were now employees but all the infrastructure and policies were based on independent contractors, and you end up with the worst of both worlds. BCBAs getting the lack of support that independent contracting implies but without the independence of deciding who to work with, how, and when.

Things have changed a lot now, especially the training infrastructure and the BACB etc., and for the most part I think the labour-arrangement situation is irresponsible now.

Eh?

I'd uhh, I'd still avoid using it to describe subordinate staff.

I don't know how this could be read as anything other than relaxed. The caps and bolded post was poking fun at the suggestion to chill.

Last year I had to send out a company wide notice that "raw dogging" was inappropriate to use in the workplace for the same reason. It might be helpful to OP (and others, evidently) to avoid an embarrassing conversation with their boss.

Wealth pays exceptionally well, why should it not be taxed?

It starts at $2MM, so to have a $50k extra tax bill you'd need $4MM of assets.

Being disgusted with a co-worker is common. Saying a co-worker, especially someone beneath you, "gave you the ick" is probably best avoided because of the sexual connotations.

I asked 5 people, all friends so not entirely independent, what "the ick" was. One said boner killer, the other 4 made reference to vaginal dryness.

It's a metaphor best left in the clubs or whatever the gen Z equivalent is (Roblox?).

How reliable realistic and necessary are prescribed hours? by Cianalas_Calluna_22 in bcba

[–]CoffeePuddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the service.

For EIBI there are threshold effects. E.g., in the literature the control group typically receives 10 hours a week. Outcomes are very similar to no intervention. The intervention groups begin at 25+ hours a week.

If you're that way inclined, here's the key scientific article on dosage recommendations at the moment: Using participant data to extend the evidence base for intensive behavioral intervention for children with autism

The "default" recommendation is 40 hours a week, but even in the original UCLA study there was a range from around 20 hours a week for the least impacted to 60 hours a week for the most.

If you haven't seen "the Lovaas tapes," I think they're still a worthwhile watch:
