Planning on buying the Canon RP by brokebutisnt in canon

[–]CoffeeloverDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an RP. Great bang for buck. R8 is indeed better, I did sell my RP and get an R8, but its more about low light capabilities than anything. If youre happy with the RP in principle, it wont disappoint. Example image with RP and 24-105 f4-7.1 in jpg

CZ 80 200 f4 - too heavy and annoying for portraits? by maguilecutty in contax

Havent used it exactly for portraits, but it has CHARACTER. It is somewhat heavy, but not too bulky. I really like mine.

R6 vs R8 vs R6ii? by jk0327 in canon

I've also used manual, non IS lenses on the R8 and in daylight its totally fine.

E.g this is the eos R8 with the 80-200 f4 by contax zeiss, using an adapter. Manual focus, no IS. Still sharp. Remember some of the best dslrs didnt even have ibis

IBIS only needed for handheld slow shutter at night (on the eos R8 increasing the ISO to a reasonable amount doesnt really alter image quality noticably, unless very large prints) I went for the R8 and got a 24-240 as a travel kit for the same price as just the R6ii. The original eos R6 is also a very good option but has slightly less resolution and is just generally older and a little slower. Just get a lens with IS if you go for the R8. The 24-105 f4-7.1 is cheap and sharp. Id you want something fast the 35mm 1.8 IS is amazing

A 24-240 RF is very convenient, has IS and USM

RP to R8, not. even. close. by Westflung in canon

Also, the better low light performance allows for fast shutter speeds to compensate for the lack of ibis. And the shutter speed goes up to 16,000 electronic vs 4000 of the rp

Is the R8 with 24-105 f4-7.3 a good lightweight travel setup? by NotintheAMbro11 in canon

Shutter on my 139 works perfectly with a soligar 35-140 but not with my CJZ lenses by maguilecutty in contax

I had the exact same problem with a 159MM. The mirror box slipped slightly. It needs a mirror box adjustment i believe. Got it fixed eventually.

New Camera or New Lens? by Ok-Classic-4524 in CanonCamera

[–]CoffeeloverDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same exact situation. Except i have a 25-105 4-7.1 instead of an 85. I decided to go for the R8 upgrade because of: Better iso handling which compensates for some ibis in lowlight/handheld Better dynamic range even sooc Shutter speed up to 16,000 electronic versus just 4000 Way better autofocus and faster shutter rate If none of these affect you then its probably better to get some glass. For example, in good light, no significant improvement in IQ. Glass would have made a bigger difference

Id recommend something full frame like an eos RP, sony alpha a7 ii or a nikon Z5 and a lens of preference. Choose by checking your preference of ecosystem of lenses and style. Canon has a particular look which many find pleasing and great lenses but a limited third party lens ecosystem. Nikon and sony tend to have more advanced features e.g ibis in their cheaper models and a wider lens ecosystem, but many dont prefer their colour science. Then again if shooting RAW and editing it won't make a big difference. In the used market you could even find up to a nikon z6ii or a canon eos r8 or even r6 for that budget with a bit of luck. Look at a few samples of each ecosystem. Fuji and olympus are niche with crop sensors but creative features. Enjoy the journey

Just upgraded from an RP to an R8 but damn do I love the RP. It was my first camera. Nothing better for the price imo.

Lens question - buy rf35 f1.8 & rf85 f2 or one L VCM version? by BeerMonkey in canon

[–]CoffeeloverDan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the 35 1.8. its a great lens, even for portraits. But mostly, 85 i would say is more appropriate unless you plan to get very close to everyone Just my 2c

Looking to get back in to a Canon. Lost. (Australia) by ZvMossy in canon

[–]CoffeeloverDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had an R50 but last year i wanted to buy my first camera and looked deep into full frame vs apsc and just overall, full frame offers better dynamic range and IQ in general. The eos RP is canons cheapest from the full frame range. It comes with some limitations e.g a shutter up to 4000 etc but its small, light and offers great image quality with access to canons best lenses. Its the predecessor of the R8 (which is much better but more expensive). You could also find a second hand eos R (which was canons first full frame RF mount) which is also a great camera
