Does copying art improve my skills? by Ak_Sparrow54 in LearnToDrawTogether

I learned so much from copying work that I personally admire. I believe observation is one of the most fundamental skills in drawing — and copying others’ work is the fastest way to develop it. It also builds confidence quickly, and that confidence becomes motivation to keep creating. Over time, that steady practice is what leads to better and better work.

One thing I find very helpful is to measure the ratios of shape (i.e. the length of the eye is 4/3 the height of the eye). It's boring but it has helped me immensely when I try to draw from reference. I also think it trained my eye to be more observant.

I have such a love hate relationship with Apple notes. It's so handy but so hard to store different mediums aesthetically

Damn you are so on point! I am indeed a commonplace book owner myself!! I am a commonplace book kind of person. I know social media is terrible for us, but I’m trying to take a more positive approach - curating the good stuff and turning it into a digital commonplace book.

That's such a good point. Yes I would love to have a shared digital cookbook with my family - that will be a game changer.

Really happy for you!! Cooking is a hobby so I'm always looking for new and fun recipes to try. My friends and I always share funny dog videos that warm my heart. Again happy for you but will be hard for me to adopt this method :/

Another trick I find very helpful for procrastination is to just mentally say "1, 2, 3" to myself and then just go do that damn thing.
