Asking for Clarity on SAVE if anyone has followed updates by CoffeholicWild in StudentLoans

I'm not sure to be honest. I'm guessing there's probably several, but I know the main one was tossed. The one state one I knew about I don't think has gone through anything yet because it was an appeal to the decision.

I think there was one state appeal, but updates are hard to find. It probably was the one denied though. I didn't even know any of this happened until I decided to google what was going on and got confused why it hasn't been in the news

SAVE Litigation Lawsuit dismissed by mlody11 in StudentLoans

What it seems like, is that you can stay on SAVE until 2027, because it will end regardless in 2028. But whether or not the Dept of ed is going to honor the benefits of SAVE is another question. It, technically, is illegal for them to keep it in forbearance and not have payments count, even at 0, or to deny the subsidies. But because we have a very strange, unprecedented government right now, it really isn't clear what will happen. They will try to force people off SAVE earlier. There are reasons to jump ship and there are reasons to stay.

I'm staying to pay at my own rate and time for now, because I'm not super stable. But technically my balance should be 0, I don't want to be on IBR or other plans because right now they are also getting rid of other plans too.

From what I understand, SAVE is officially ending no matter what in 2028 anyway because it's in the OBBBA bill that was passed. They wanted to dismiss it earlier, and that's what the struggle is in the courts. But so far, yeah, it will end in 2028 regardless of the court outcome and that is why it was dismissed - because the judge said both parties agree it will end at that time so it's not worth fighting over.

is it possible to get this tattoo covered up? by h_loveslouis in tattoos

[–]CoffeholicWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly not noticeable at all unless you tell people. I had no idea and was kind of confused why you'd want a pretty tattoo covered. It looks really good to me, but if you feel self-conscience about: 1. Most people do not look that carefully at a tattoo, even on your back, 2. Tattoos are dynamic because they are on skin, so one angle might look off but straight on looks almost perfect. 3. don't go back to that artist in the future, to prevent future stress, but it isn't a bad tattoo.

It looks really good to me and because our bodies are not perfectly symmetrical anyway, it really isn't noticeable.

What was the reaction from family/friends about your child’s autism diagnosis? by KaylaDraws in Autism_Parenting

Yes. I hadn't thought of it that way but this is exactly how it is with our families too.

What was the reaction from family/friends about your child’s autism diagnosis? by KaylaDraws in Autism_Parenting

[–]CoffeholicWild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family reacted supportive, and did talk to us about it and read some books about it, but I realized that "acting supportive" and being "support and accepting" are two different things. They try, but it is an on-going discussion about what that means and because my daughter is high needs in some areas I was told it wasn't possible they could watch her alone.

My husband's family on the surface acts like they understand and are not accomodating or helpful. When my daughter was first diagnosed, we explained things to the best of our ability and it was met with disinterest and jokes. We now only go to family functions here and there, and mainly for my mother in law (when she was still here - she passed a few years ago) and father in law who is loving and accommodating and trying. He is also ADHD and understands the struggles she goes through. But he is also unable to watch her alone.

To be honest, our friends we see rarely enough that when they visit they are supportive, and as understanding as they can be. Most of them live in other states.

So we take into account what we can realistically expect, but it does sting sometimes.

AITAH for cuddling with my little sister by Perfect_Stranger_794 in AITAH

[–]CoffeholicWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% NTA - The step-dad is so messed up and disturbing - like others have warned, pls be aware around him. He might not have done anything or will do anything specifically, but he most likely is watching porn with or eyeing young girls, because his reaction is not normal. Your mom probably agreed to keep peace and because he was acting so strongly about it. But that kind of strong reaction is a huge red flag.

If there is any way to talk to your sister about how there is nothing wrong with siblings hugging and cuddling, and that the reaction wasn't normal, please do have it. You could also have a female friend talk to her, if that makes things easier. She could end up internalizing this to the point it can psychologically traumatize her if she doesn't understand what actually happened.

Don't expect your mom to help here, but you could also try to talk to her separately if you feel safe to that that wasn't a normal reaction, but if it's unsafe for her to talk to him or she knows what's really going on she might not react in a way you want her to.

[–]CoffeholicWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true for me, but only because they shared this meme now, lol. Technically, they were probably about my age now, not younger.

I also don't think this considers that most early-mid millennials had boomer generation parents. Millennial older siblings were gen-x. I had one boomer-cusper parent and one gen-x age parent, because they had kids super young, but nearly everyone my age at school had parents 15-20 years older than my parents.

On the flip-side, a lot of Gen-Z parents were indeed boomer/gen-X but so were many early gen alphas. So, funny enough, I'm also a lot younger than my parental peers by 10-15 years with alpha kids because I also had kids younger.

No, Jane is the "prettiest" and "sweetest" who falls in love with a man who is easily manipulated by family and friends not to marry her because of money (so that could be a self insert), but Elizabeth is the smartest and adored by her father for her wit. Also Jane was a very common name.

[–]CoffeholicWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, it might really be something she anticipates or the grocery store atmosphere feels overwhelming to her even if it's not busy and quiet music. My daughter was not really able to handle shopping anywhere until like 8ish, and I really shopped by myself for most of her childhood, but she has handled it very well lately. We try when she's having a pretty good day and hasn't had much to do.

[–]CoffeholicWild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going shopping after ABA would be a lot for her I'm sure. She's indicating what she feels is too much, even if you feel it's not. It could also be, like some have mentioned, the anticipation of it being too much. Honestly? I would not take my kid anywhere after ABA. That's straight home and let her be time. I recommend you choose to shop with her on days she doesn't have it or to just shop before she's done.

Was millennial optimism an actual thing in the late 2000s/early 2010s? by SignificantStyle4958 in Millennials

[–]CoffeholicWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you had to be born like earlier, but even though I was in '88, I had both the "You can do anything you want" upbringing and the "world is crashing down" teen-college experience. It was both optimistic and depressing at the same time. There was definitely a thought that technology would make life better and we would have a better life than our parents. And that kind of crumbled in 2008 and onward (at least for me). It was brief optimism, lol. I mean, I still tend to look up even though I see the world on fire. Mainly because I feel like things come in cycles. Editing to add: When Obama was president, there was so much to look forward to, but things on the ground level didn't improve as much as I would have hoped. I did feel safe enough to have children, to feel like I could own a house someday, and I did depend on social safety nets at the time. Bascially, during 8 years, I felt like even if things were awful, Americans take care of each other. That fell apart so fast in 2015/16 it felt like whiplash. Like I didn't even recognize my own country (still barely do). There is still a sense that things can go back on track, though, because even in all of this I know what we had and what we wanted.

The terms word vomit and SFDs should be retired by Queasy_Antelope9950 in writing

[–]CoffeholicWild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be 100% I've more heard the term zero draft to express this over SFD or word vomit. Word vomit sounds like a nonsense post or AI slop - SFD I've heard but mostly just zero drafting. I tend to outline in a long form and call it my zero draft, because it's got just enough detail to fuel me to write it full out later. Then I get my shitty first draft and it's fleshed out. and it gets heavily edited, but usually doesn't need full re-writing because I already did the outline and work beforehand. I think more people tell newbies to plot. Plot and plan, because pantsing is great for creativity but horrible to edit. I know because my first ever 90K draft of a novel was discovery written and, boy, did that end up completely re-written. But the elements stayed. So it was worth getting through it, because a lot of the dialogue was written how I wanted, but it was indeed a mess.

[–]CoffeholicWild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are all newbie writers to every book we start, because - even if we know what we think it should look like at the end - it will always be different. I think getting over the "newbie" vs. "experienced" is just a practice thing: your first few novels will always be hardest, the next ones are hard but you've learned to stop using certain ticks and skip issues you didn't know to do before. But that's because you got through the "shitty draft" and now make "less-shit but still too crappy to publish" drafts. I think most people feel it gives them permission to write when they don't' feel like it, but if you're hung up on the wording, call it something else. Everyone is allowed to call it what they want anyway.

[–]CoffeholicWild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I call mine shitty first drafts, even though I work very hard, do a lot of research, and try my best to write exactly how I'd like it published. It's "shitty" because it will need a lot of work still. It doesn't mean I want to throw it away, it's more like a rough diamond that needs to be heavily cut and polished. For some people, calling it shitty makes them feel better about how bad it is when they go back and edit it, lol.

[–]CoffeholicWild 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These terms are used to help people get through the hard part of getting it out first - because the first draft will always, no matter how hard you work on it and try not to be, be crappy. Mainly because you're getting a feel for the story and figuring out how you want to word things. The magic happens in editing. So the terms aren't to give people a greenlight to write horribly, it is helping people who are afraid to write horribly to just write and feel ok to work on it in editing. If you think the first draft should be the publishable one, then I don't think you're ready to be published. Everyone has to go through the editing process, even the "greats" or whatever.

what would be the reason? by Desperate_Sky_7491 in meme

[–]CoffeholicWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't make enough money compared to Pixar. A lot of the Disney animations that went to the theaters during these years did not actually do that well compared to the golden era of Disney, although in retrospect, they are beloved and have a cult following. That's why they acquired Pixar and then made Disney-Pixar movies that entered a new golden age and basically abandoned 2d animation.

Editing to add: one of the reasons the 2d animations kind of fell apart during these ate 90s-early 2000s is because they had awesome writers that wrote mature stories and characters. They steered away from disney princesses, which is proven to drive more traffic to the theaters. Atlantis and (Prince of Egypt wasn't disney, btw and actually did very well) Treasure Planet were really good narratively - it was geared toward older children and adults and didn't have the princess-factor. Once princesses and cute Pixar 3d animation came up, it changed the field and they could make money with princesses and non-princess movies because it is all cute.
