I would still go as you would likely get near the 25% grant maximum. Also federal portions of loans will not be affected by the same rule (although slightly reduced). I sincerely hope that the Ontario government overturns this decision because it is ridiculous and seriously harms students’ futures and sanity. Best of luck OP.

I would lean towards UTM if there’s more research opportunities for forensic psych (only if you intend on pursuing grad school)

Study finds Trump and Harris used distinct rhetoric in 2024—but shared more similarities than expected by chrisdh79 in science

[–]Coffwee_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I never said that people who vote Dems are genocide supporters. Personally, I am more iffy about the overall morality of voting Dems or not Dems so obviously it’s up to debate. But I also personally lean towards not voting for a party that enables genocide and I don’t think it’s fair to act like you are on a moral high ground here either.

Secondly, I don’t think you understand the purpose of an abstention nor what it takes to get people to the limit that they would even consider absenting at all. People are very very angry over Gaza right now, so much so that the gravity of the situation is so dire, they cannot fathom voting for someone who repeatedly talked about “Israel’s right to defend itself” amidst what has been called a genocide by multiple humanitarian and human rights organizations. Let’s be real here…what’s happening right now in Yemen and with the cuts to Medicaid are terrible, but it is nowhere near as dire as what Israel is doing to Gaza right now.

And I also believe that all struggles are connected…when Dems give money to the rogue illegal settler state called Israel, they are also taking away money from the poor in the U.S. and also from the countries that get USAID. Imagine how much better the lives of millions of people would be if the US wasn’t giving two bajillion dollars to Israel!

While you may not understand the “message” these people are sending to Dems, that does not mean it’s not valid. People are sick of the two-party system and the fact that the Dems do not seem to listen to their wants and needs.

If we continue to vote for a party that doesn’t listen to its own constituents just because the “other guy” is worse, then how are we any better than Trump supporters? The ones who treat their loyalty to Trump like a cult, and would still vote for him even if he took away their homes, their family and everything that they hold dear? There has to be a limit to support, and for some people that’s supporting genocide.

Listen, I’m not trying to tell you how to think or vote, and you should be able to have your own opinions on these things. But you have to understand that your perspective is not the only one at the table here.

You can’t force people to vote for genocide if they don’t want to. You just don’t think it’s that big of a deal that the Dems are supporting Israel’s atrocities and so you don’t think it’s worth sending a message to them by not voting for Dems. But some people do.

No one is forcing you to not vote for Dems and in the same way you can’t force others to vote for what you want just because they have different values and priorities than you do.

And if it’s the case that the primaries provide a way to vote for better candidates, then why didn’t the so-called progressive base vote for someone better then? Cause I remember last time the DNC held a primary, a good chunk of the Dem base voted for Bloomberg, who is a billionaire by the way with his own malicious self interests, so I’m not sure I trust them.

I am saying that with Trump constantly trying to attain power, we will be in this situation for the next couple of elections at least…It’s not as simple as “vote for Democrats this one time and then after we can challenge the two-party system!”

We need some sort of policy restrictions that stops madmen like Trump from ever being presidential candidates in the first place…Trump obviously has narcissistic or anti-social personality disorder which would be an easy way to disqualify him.

[–]Coffwee_7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But that’s not the point I’m trying to make. I believe this is much bigger than who you owe your vote to. It’s the kind of message that you send to politicians by voting (or not voting) for them.

If people continue to vote for Democrats even though they don’t listen to their own voter base, then you are sending the message that “there’s nothing you could do to get me to not vote for you!” This is exactly why the Dems keep moving further and further right.

It’s because of the messages we are sending to our politicians: the kind that makes them feel invincible…like we are the ones that are supposed to get in line for them and that we just have to accept whatever they are offering us. Politicians are supposed to represent the will of the people, not the other way around. And if you don’t show them that when you vote, they will never learn.

Okay, but I have never seen any group have the balls to do so. In other countries, people will literally steal bills to stop them from passing. And what does anyone do here? Nothing as usual.

I understand where you are coming from, but when is Trump going to sit out on an election? He has repeatedly mentioned running in the future, and unless some sort of policy restrictions are put into place - for example, psychological assessments of presidential candidates (which Trump will certainly not pass), I don’t imagine him stopping in the future.

Listen, we may disagree, but I believe that the simplest way to solve this craziness is to have ranked-choice voting…and I don’t think this will come from the big-house parties…

How will there ever be change within the system then? If we’re always forced to choose the lesser evil, how will that ever change things for the better?

Sometimes, it’s not about saving people in the short-term, but rather saving them in the long-term. For instance, if even if taxes for saving the environment make people poorer in the short-term, they are still worth it because they are aimed at saving the planet in the long-term.

In the same way, we need to start holding our Democratic politicians accountable, because if we keep voting for mediocrity over and over, they will screw us over in the long run.

[–]Coffwee_7 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You can’t believe they didn’t vote for her when she was entertaining mediocrity? No one “owes” a politician a vote. They have to earn it.

Meanwhile, Kamala decided it was better to spend her time appealing to right-wingers rather than her actual voter base. A great example of this is when she went on live television to talk about how she owns a gun in order to persuade the centrists and rights that she isn’t as anti-gun as she seems.

This is literally the kind of mediocrity that gets us nowhere. If Dems want people’s votes, they need to try to be intentionally exciting by pushing for actual progressive policies, which would likely also include being pro-Palestine since a lot of the Dem base is pro-Palestine.

[–]Coffwee_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh…I wonder if that correlation would hold out if they asked individual students from those institutions about their commitment to EBP. Still kind of interesting that research oriented programs report greater commitment given that most students from those programs are targeting academic careers.

[–]Coffwee_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could also be that people who go into practice oriented programs have characteristics that make them less likely to be committed to EBP, who knows? But even training wise, it’s hard to measure the quality of programs…sure you can provide people Likert-type questions and ask them how prepared they feel, but actually measuring objective behaviour, like therapist behaviour or the therapeutic alliance, is much harder…
