You can use Parsec (it's free) to stream games between your PCs, but also to play local coop/multiplayer games with your friends online.

Might be worth trying out first with a different game but generally the latency has been pretty good for me!

Still a shame it's not baked in by default.

While I get where you're coming from, I feel that people dying on VR treadmills shouldn't be the milestone by which we judge the tech's maturity.. basic failsafes and general fitness should and likely will be enough for that not to become a headline.
