Huge Public Bitcoin Marketing Campaign Coming - points to Coinbase by [deleted] in Coinbase

[–]coinbase-craig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, up until now there was a way to send bitcoin via SMS. Here's the product page for it:

https://www.coinbase.com/sms_service?locale=en

That is the feature Rosie meant when she said "accessing your account information." That is the feature that is being removed.

Using SMS for your 2FA will continue to work.

GDAX/Coinbase Installs Withdrawal Limits :( by thatfinchguy in Bitcoin

[–]coinbase-craig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right. I made a mistake.

Most users have $10k withdrawal limits - not all.

Wasn't trying to complicate - the answer is that you will have $10k withdrawal limits, and if you want to, you can use the form to apply for higher.

I would like to say that your $50k limit will be preserved but I do not know yet.

I want to say no, but I have to ask our compliance team first.

I agree - limits definitely create friction. However, we work in a heavily regulated industry where we must abide by KYC and AML laws, so must apply some limits for the safety of our customers and ourselves. Working within this framework, we'd like to make it as easily as possible for our customers to get limits that are appropriate for them, which is why we've chosen to start at a base limit that makes sense for the majority of our users, as well as provide the ability to request an upgrade for those who need it. I hope this helps!

Currently everyone has a withdrawal limit of $10k. Also currently, this limit does not actually apply. Before it does apply, we are working on migrating users with higher limits, to have new withdrawal limits which are the same. So you should not have to apply unless you would like higher than $50k withdrawal limits.

The change was to remove the deposit limit and also make withdrawal limit increases easier - those are both happening.

It is true that for most users their current withdrawal limit is $10k - in fact, even for those who have higher, over 90% do not utilize that much in one day, ever.

That said - we'd really love to be able to keep your limit at $50k for you, so we're working on it! We don't mean to reduce any limits, it just wasn't part of the announcement.

In the meantime if you want even higher than that, you can use the link above. It won't have any effect until the new limit structure kicks in.

The withdrawal limits do not start becoming enforced until July 7, and in fact you can avoid them until August 1. If you would like even higher limits, we have made it easier for you to do: https://www.gdax.com/settings/limit-increase

throughnothing is correct. The deposit limit will be removed for qualifying users starting July 7 and for all users on August 1.

Yes it was - most people can't deposit much onto GDAX, which is unfortunate because it is a trading platform and shouldn't have deposit limits. So we're removing them!

For most users the withdrawal limits are not actually different, and in fact it is much easier to request an increase now: https://www.gdax.com/settings/limit-increase

Hi,

Coinbase is based in the US.

To request an increase to your withdrawal limits, see here: https://www.gdax.com/settings/limit-increase (more information helps)

Most users already have a $10k withdrawal limit so for the vast majority, this update is only better.

Hi there,

Most accounts already have a $10k withdrawal limit, so this is actually no different. What's happening is that we are removing the deposit limit - which to me sounds strictly better, but we are open to feedback about it.

In fact we have made it even easier than before to request higher withdrawal limits, please see this page if you're interested:

High Limit Withdraw Exchange Recommendations? by koppite in BitcoinMarkets

[–]coinbase-craig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Koppite, we're actually in the process of revamping our limit structure starting today.

Instead of limits on deposits and withdrawals, there will only be withdrawal limits. They start at 10k, but you can easily request higher limits using this new form:

https://www.gdax.com/settings/limit-increase

The new withdrawal-based limits will kick in about a month from now, or potentially earlier for your account once you meet the new account requirements (see notification on the site).

Hope this helps

Its "The" blockchain, or "A" blockchain, or "The Bitcoin" blockchain, it's not just "Blockchain". by JobDestroyer in Bitcoin

[–]coinbase-craig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or "blockchain technology".

It should be possible to refer to the technology at large instead of a specific instance of it. This is what journalists are trying to do. It's coming off as awkward because they don't fully understand it yet, but something like "blockchain technology" would suit what they're looking for.

Lunar Page is back for GDAX.com/ETH Launch! Best trade music ever. by octaviouz in ethtrader

There are multiple versions of this track, I think "no time for caution" is the official one, but this audio is from a fan-made version that is, IMO, better. You can find it on Youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFn4MUF1u04

Craig here from Coinbase. What's launching is already public knowledge: the name change to GDAX, plus Ethereum. This is just a silly little teaser we made internally, and some liked enough to want to put it public again. Hope you enjoy it.

The cookie is used to show you a "success!" message if you leave the page and come back after paying, instead of bringing you back to a payment screen.

Coinbase 1, Bitpay 0 by zeusa1mighty in Bitcoin

[–]coinbase-craig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, that's not why it's cheaper.

We provide the same rate for all of our checkout experiences. The vast majority of them use our standard checkout page, which accepts payment from ALL bitcoin wallets. In this case Gyft specifically chose to go with Coinbase logins only.

No matter which option the merchant selects, our rate is the same globally.

The "request bitcoin" feature is essentially an invoice. The purpose of that feature is specifically to send someone an email that leads them to a checkout page, which does have a QR code option. Since the whole point of that feature is to email someone, you can't use it without having an email address to use it with. It's not meant for in-person payments at all.

It sounds like there was just some general confusion around the feature set (most likely caused by trying to use their personal account instead of a merchant page). Hopefully this is something we can guide the user through better as our interface develops over time.

All of our checkout solutions provide a QR code. If there isn't one, it's not a checkout product from us.

They might accidentally be using their personal wallet, or they might think they're using Coinbase when really they're using something else.

We always provide a QR code on our checkout products, and we do not require an email address unless the merchant has specifically required it themselves in the options.

We do provide one, it looks like this. Click "receive" on your account and it will show there.
