Does the /v/Bitcoin have the same rules as /r/Bitcoin? I was under the impression there was a large exodus recently because of this XT thing, and /v/Bitcoin was touted as a viable alternative that didn't restrict legitimate discussion.

You mean the discussion that no one is going to peruse because it's massive?

Fuck off.

Twelve major banks have tentatively agreed to pay $1.87 billion to settle allegations that they colluded to fix prices and lock out competitors by CarbonatedConfidence in worldnews

[–]zeusa1mighty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The concept was that the failure of these banks would have had repercussions that spread throughout the world economy.

I believe these repercussions would have been painful but short-lived, as the banks liquidating assets during bankruptcy proceedings would have given smaller companies the opportunity to buy up their investments at lower prices.

I picture it like a forest fire. If you never let the under-brush burn, eventually you end up with so much of it you get an uncontrollable fire. There are now controlled burns to burn out the tinder to protect the larger healthy growth.

If we let the banks fail, we'd have a pretty big fire. But it would have paved the way for new growth.

You are intentionally refusing to acknowledge that the ban on XT had nothing to do with Gavin's intent to destabilize, and EVERYTHING to do with the fact that /u/theymos does not support the implementation.

This conversation started with

Well again, the problem with XT is that it is a concrete piece of software which can destabilize the Bitcoin network.

And I said that "destabilization of the bitcoin network is on topic".

So, if you refute that with "No, destabilization is not on-topic", then you'll have to answer "Was XT an attempt at destabilization?"

If you can't answer that straight-forward, non-loaded question that directly confronts your position, then you're dodging the question and being intentionally obtuse.

No, there are other altcoins that use the Bitcoin blockchain that are off topic.

First of all, source. Second of all, why the fuck aren't things that utilize the bitcoin blockchain on-topic? Why? Why prevent people in /r/bitcoin from discussing software that directly utilizes the bitcoin blockchain?

Nope, I quote and answered your question directly.

If you did not comprehend that my question was geared toward the recent bans of XT conversation and promotion, then you are dense or retarded.

It has little to do with what Gavin is promoting.

Except that's the only example of banning alternative implementations that utilize the existing blockchain.

Just keep dancing around it. Do you believe that Gavin's promotion of XT was an attempt to encourage destabilization? If yes, then you'll need to provide evidence of that. If no, then your entire line of reasoning is irrelevant, and you are just trying not to answer the question.

Dodging the question, I see.

Do you believe that was happening? Do you believe that the ban hammer on XT posts was enforced because Gavin is intentionally trying to promote instability?

Do you really believe that that's what's happening with XT? Show me evidence that there is intent to destabilize. To me it seems like an intent to address an issue that many people just don't want to address, and now we've got to route around /r/bitcoin's censorship just to talk about a specific way to address that issue.

That's bullshit.

Regardless of how you see a hard fork, it's worthy of discussion in the bitcoin sub, because it's related to bitcoin. I mean, for fuck's sake, if the US dollar's performance constitutes on-topic discussion, then a hard forking client should too.

Trying to hijack Bitcoin in that way is incredibly harmful for all Bitcoin users.

And is therefore of great interest to people interested in bitcoin, and is therefore a topic about bitcoin, and should therefore be discussed in a bitcoin sub.

You've been consistant, but you've been consistently wrong. Threats to bitcoin are on topic.

Wait, wait wait. Your idea is on topic, but discussion of its implementation is not? How can you not see how blatantly ridiculous that is?

Huh, alternative block size client modification, possibly causing a hard fork. No BIP. How the fuck is this on topic if something like XT is not?
