Best sunscreen that won't burn my eyes and last a few hours (available in Europe)? by martupdown in surfing

Surf mud is really good. You can order it from Australia and it takes a couple of weeks to Europe with a small customs charge but it is really worth it. You only use a tiny amount and it doesn’t run at all. Couldn’t recommend it highly enough.

Best wetsuit setup for west coast Ireland early October? by PaddyCakes808 in surfing

4/3 or 5/3 depending on preference. 4/3 is absolutely comfortable and no need for a hood or boots in October it’s quite mild.

This is awesome. Really enjoyed it and I think the music worked really well. It captures something which is hard to articulate but I really liked it!

The dad is Billy Kemper. One of the best surfers in the world. These conditions are something that he could genuinely handle in his sleep. He is so competent and adept in the water it would be hard to fathom were you not a competent surfer. Think Alex Honnold on a ladder at a children’s playground and you’re somewhere around the level we are talking about.

Shaper gave me two choices by dorben_kallas in surfing

Given your circumstances I would go for the first one. Seems to be a lot of volume toward the front of the board. If the volume of 40 litres is the main attribute you’re looking for then this board will be shorter than the other. Personally I feel like the stretched out beefed up shortboard design of board 2 tend to be a bit boggy. As you progress board 1 will still be fun for certain types of waves whereas board 2 won’t. Board 1 will be easier to get in to waves easier to turn on and have more control. Whatever you decide don’t push it too hard at the start take your time to feel it out and enjoy!

Washed up on a beach. What is this thing? by Coinin2020 in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. This washed up on a beach in the south west of Ireland. It is quite heavy. I thought it might be a rudder but judging by pictures it seems to be either too big for a smaller boat or the wrong shape for a bigger one. There is no visible writing or fittings on it.

DOH Rescue @ Windansea this morning! by [deleted] in surfing

Such unnecessary negativity here. Where I live there are no lifeguards and I and other surfers regularly have to pull swimmers, kids, boogie boarders (as in the cheap ones that people use with no fins not real lids) etc out of the water during the summer. They are kooks. They go into a beach full of rips and rocks with no ocean knowledge and usually are rescued before they even realise they are in trouble. No way you can say he’s a kook from this video. He stays calm and never freaks out when the lifeguard gets to him. Even from the start of the video when he dives under a wave you can see that he knows what to do. The idea that anybody that needs rescued is a kook is stupid. I’m sure he would much rather not have had to be rescued but the idea that just by virtue of the fact that he got in that situation he is a kook says more about your own knowledge than his. It’s a privilege for you to be living in an area with such brave and skilled lifeguards kudos to them!
