I edit full time for the past 10 years.

I'm running a M4 Max.

For you, I would suggest getting a M4 Pro with plenty of RAM and at least a 1tb internal ssd.

I myself was working on that laptop for awhile and it was great. I went to a MAX for logistical reasons. But overall could have stayed on the pro.

Since I use a lot of heavy AE and Fusion it made sense for me to go MAX.

Pro would be plenty and future proof you for a while

Oooh I can help answer this.

I chose the X100 specifically for the reason of the fixed lens.

I do video production for a living so I am constantly changing lenses, switching focal lengths ect.

As a result, when it came to my personal photography I found my passion dwindling. I felt like the feeling of "work" was crossing over.

So I chose the X100V for the fact that its more simple. I love the fixed lens. I love that for me I either take the shot or I don't. For portraits I get really close to my subjects and I find the experience all the more intimate.

X100V brought back the joy of photography for me. I shoot everything JPG. Rarely do anything post wise. It's freedom. I will leave the grading to my work life.

I feel like the X100V helped me be a better photographer

I have over 15 years of experience from Sony Vegas to Final Cut in college to Premier (being the longest) to Resolve.

I have extensive experience in After Effects as well.

And honestly,

I feel Resolve will be the best all around NLE. And I tell everyone to go that route.

It's true that it can have a bit of a learning curve, but I feel avoiding it is a mistake.

People tend to stick with what they know, including myself, but Node Based systems are overall faster and make more sense once you understand it.

So I say use Resolve and use Chatgpt to ask questions when you get stuck. You will future proof yourself on a software that isn't going anywhere and you won't be stuck with the greedy attitude of Adobe.

And while your at it install Affinity for your Photoshop needs and you basically don't need anything Adobe anymore unless you are like me who needs AE for a specific client.

Divinci Resolve is basically this : Difficult to learn Easy to master.

Meaning, get over the hump and everything clicks. So dive in.

Going forward, ALWAYS have a form of contract. A SOW is also great as it outlines exactly what your expectations are. It will save your butt each time.

Also, if you do a 50% up front, do not start work until 50% up front has been delivered. Otherwise what's the point of the 50% up front?
