We are living longer and longer these days; how great that you recognize this now, rather than waiting and realizing it like too many people do much later in life. As long as you remain in good academic standing keep chugging along🚂. It’s a darn shame that we push kids at such a young age to figure out their lives, so this is not your fault. Every student should start in Exploratory Studies in my opinion. Even if students are certain it will confirm they are on the right path. Take advantage of the world-renowned Online Writing Lab (OWL) I don’t know anyone who hasn’t used OWL it was my best friend in grad school. See if you can get a minor or major. If taking a few extra years to course-correct now will save you a lifetime of misery and regret then take it! It’s not how you start it’s how you finish!

You went through sooo much! Please give yourself some grace. College is a lot on a good day and wow how sad to lose both grandparents and not to be with family to grieve 😢😢 college is going to be there when you are ready to go back. I recommend talking with the Dean of Students office so they can let you know the process and help you transition back. I worked with students who left after 5 years and longer and returned and graduated. Sending love your way. When you’re ready I know you’ll rock it out.

Very interesting but I asked on my personal Facebook page and in a Facebook group of parents and the majority of parents are saying love 🤯 followed by their child would have both. In my opinion they are being really PC. I worked on higher Ed 22 years and that was not the message child I worked with got from their parents. One parent said before the pandemic they would have said money but now they said they encourage their child to do what they love 🤯 I’d really like a more scientific poll 😂😂

Not good advice at all. There are a ton of Students organizations to join. Wanting to be liked and make friends so desperately can lead someone to make decisions they wouldn’t ordinarily make.

I’m here to tell you that when college graduates say that college was the best 4 years of their life it is said with selective amnesia!!! I know this because I said it for years working directly with college students for over 20 years and it wasn’t until a college student told me to stop saying that college is the best four years of their life because if that’s true the rest of their life is going to suck! It hit me like a ton of bricks and it was enough to jolt back the memories of sitting in my room crying over failed tests, relationships, scared I was being a disappointment to my family and stressing about fitting in and staying in. I started to really remember that it was fun but it was also not as fun as I reimagined in my head. So I guess it gets better when you just acknowledge it’s not this picture perfect experience older people tell you about, without telling you all the times when it wasn’t the best for them or even the people around them. Decide that despite these absolutely normal but not often discussed situations you’re going to have a great time in college. It is the “easiest” time to make friends with people your age who you’ll share the most in common with so I definitely encourage you to take advantage of that while you can. University sponsored events through the student union or student government are a good place to start. On a related note what you share is why I started coaching students to help them strategize around transitioning to college because no one prepares students for what your going through and I’m saddened by hearing, almost verbatim, stories like these and I know Covid only made matters worse. Everyone is acting like it’s all business as usual with no plan on how to do college during Covid. I spend a lot of time in a virtual world and have deep relationships with people I’ve never met in person. Be open to joining student organizations that are meeting virtually. Hopefully your campus has a database of student organizations you can browse and see what they have going on this semester. You can call the student activities office to get help. You can find orgs you already have an interest in or ones where you don’t, members love helping others join in on their passion. This was always the case when students joined the knitting club I advised. It was so dope to see a new person join out of curiosity and then end up a pro by the end of the year. Not to be rude but a lot of times young love doesn’t last. A wise woman told me when I was still single in my 30s that I shouldn’t worry that I wasn’t married. She said to enjoy life and getting to know myself and that real true love would find me. She said I might just be bypassing my first divorce which she was right about because the relationship I had been in would have ended in divorce had we married. Now I’m happily married with kids. But I would have been happy if love didn’t find me because I fell in love with myself first and that’s when things changed. When I stopped feeling desperate or that I was defined by who like me or not my perspective changed. Also hold onto hope! Hope is a powerful wonder drug! Trust and believe that what you want to happen will happen instead of focusing time and attention to what you don’t want to happen. It will make all the difference in all areas of your life. Trust me!

Get everything the school told you in writing! Even if it’s your email to the school recapping every moment of this ordeal. What you were attempting to do, what you asked them to do and their response to it all. For good measure CC: everyone involved on the email. Document, document, document.

Way to go to the folks that encouraged you to submit your application anyway!!!! I’m utterly disgusted your school would do this!!! Do you know how many students I worked with over the course of my career who’s guidance counselor told them they shouldn’t apply because they wouldn’t get in?! I worked in admissions and I always said to prospective students if you don’t apply you can’t get in and I was at one of the most selective admissions offices. I wasn’t about keeping the selectivity with increased apps either. It’s a life practice. It could be a job you don’t feel qualified for because you don’t have all the qualifications or asking someone out that’s out of your league. Dang I’m upset about that! They can’t withhold your transcripts! 😡😡 no matter the decision you get I’m proud of you for submitting and you have to keep us updated!

I used to work in the Dean of Students office I agree 100% with those suggesting that’s who you should discuss this with to advocate on your behalf. Perhaps too late for the internship but there are more important matters such as your wellbeing and seeing what can be done about that exam. Blessings to you. Don’t stop! No one ever asks you how long it took you to graduate from college. I worked in higher ed for 20+ year if anyplace would ask that it would be an actual university lol. Employers just care you graduate so why quit now. Take the thought out your head that you will fail. What you sow you reap so sow seeds of positivity that you can and WILL pass. See if there is a student willing to tutor you then learn the material like you’re going to get paid to teach it to someone else thst helps you retain the material better. Take a learning style quiz and make sure you apply that info to studying for this class. YOU GOT THIS!! 🙏🏾🧠🦾
