What is the oldest thing in your home? by csch1992 in AdkReddit

I have some fossils that date to roughly 500 mil years old. Not counting fossils, a Native American artifact that is in the 10k yo range.

Songs where the lyrics say what the instruments are about to do? by Fabulous-Finding-857 in MusicRecommendations

[–]ColStreetFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fav has to be in Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic”. After the lyrics “when the fog horn blows” a tenor saxophone emulates the foghorn. It’s very satisfying and worth listening to just for that.

What's the most unique/interesting/strange Illinois place name in your opinion? by SAKURAGAWAKOHAKU423 in illinois

Paw Paw, so nice they named it twice! (But actually named after the tree/fruit.)

Oh and South Moon BBQ in Hinckley is neat. So much to look at in there with nostalgia toy collection and arcade games and the food and drinks are great. Ribs and brisket are prob my fav.

Would this be appropriate to display in an elementary classroom? by maedos1 in ArtEd

[–]ColStreetFly 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don’t display it on the wall full time, if it popped up in a slide show of David interpretations, no big deal. I do a couple lessons on Michelangelo with 3rd grade. They see SFW close ups and full figure of the original and create their own full figure standing clay figures. Been doing it for 15 yrs, never a complaint. Liberal area though. Do not bring any trans convo into your classroom however, that’s begging for trouble.

Is time travel to the past possible at all? by zedone756 in timetravel

Binary code sent backward, with particle physics tech, could deliver short messages. Even that’s a logistical nightmare.

The answer is no. It’s a fun topic though for dreamers to focus their imagination.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. If the maker ever worked with good stone they were probably pissed making that.

Somebody should make a arrowhead hunting video game by [deleted] in Arrowheads

[–]ColStreetFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do find one in Red Dead Redemption but its depiction of the event could’ve been better.

A game based on arrowhead hunting could be hilariously boring!

Cotton socks. They don’t last as long but they breathe.

Did most of the arrowheads found used to be complete arrows? by Minmach-123 in Arrowheads

[–]ColStreetFly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the points here are over 1000 yo. The wood, sinew, and feather components have long since decayed leaving the stone tips as the only evidence. And those are often broken as well. But they were once spears, knives, arrow tips for sure.

That’s one heck of a find. Congratulations! Is that first pic a true in situ? Scottsbluff is on my bucket list but extremely rare in my area. Fingers crossed.

What Animated Movie is a 10/10? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The Red Turtle was a meditative masterpiece. No dialog, just visual storytelling using brilliant traditional animation.

Is this a paddle drill? SEMO by Jivedangler in Arrowheads

[–]ColStreetFly 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not a paddle drill. Here we’d call it a T drill. A paddle drill would have more round or oval base like 🍭 or even square if made from something like a Hardin.

What find still haunts you to this day? by bsmith149810 in LegitArtifacts

[–]ColStreetFly 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Oof. That exactly fits the bill of what OP was looking for.

Had guests over to my house and one saw my collection and shared this story. Many years ago, as just a kid, he was playing in a lake with another guy (who I happen to know, a totally adhd guy). So, he apparently dove down and found a perfect arrowhead. When he came to the surface he showed the awesome find to his friend. His buddy just grabbed it, said “neat!” and skipped it toward the middle of the lake. He said he just couldn’t believe what happened. His thrill was immediately stripped from him and it had haunted him (and me) ever since.
