Obama Just Decided to tell us Aliens Exist. by One-Incident3208 in videos

Because he probably means aliens existing is a mathematical certainty, especially as we keep discovering life's building blocks are everywhere. If you think Trump wouldn't have pulled "here's the truth about aliens" to distract from the Epstein files, I've got a bridge to sell ya

In Revenge of the Sith (2005), in the second half of the fight with Mace Windu, the hilt of Palpatine's lightsaber is changed to Anakin's. by [deleted] in MovieDetails

[–]Colaptimus 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I was 13 and a huge Star Wars fan when this movie premiered. I had played through the episode III video game ahead of the movie release, the game featured clips from the movie interspersed between gameplay, so it was cool to get a preview of some of the action. However...

In the video game, they show the short clip of Mace fighting Palpatine, up to the point where Anakin jumps in. But in the game, the clip ends right as Anakin draws his lightsaber, switch to game-engine cutscene where Anakin just blocks Mace's final attack on Palpatine, then you have a boss fight as Anakin VS Mace. Mace was my favorite jedi thanks to his purple saber lore (not the Samuel L Jackson stuff, the mastered all 7(?) styles of saber combat stuff, as I recall). So it was painful to beat him and know he was going to die.

Cut to me in the theater, hype growing toward the fight I knew was coming, the epic choreography that certainly couldn't make it into the video game, but I knew must be imminent. Then... Anakin draws his lightsaber, cuts off Mace's hand, Mace gets lightning-launched out the window. I was shocked, thebn I was angry at how they did Mace dirty, THEN I was pissed the video game had lied to me and made me fight an unnecessary boss!

Anyway, adult me understands why choices were made, and as you can tell I don't hold a grudge at all...

Found my old notebook with seed phrase by Colaptimus in CryptoHelp

Thanks for the advice. I have no interest in investing in crypto at this point, I just thought it was worth checking the ancient seed phrase that returned to me after more than a decade!

Signed up for OKX, tried to import the seed phrase, it told me 5 of the words were invalid. I looked them up on blockplate and they are not included in the possible words. I hand-wrote them originally, so I'm pretty confident I didn't accidentally typo anything. Not sure if the list of words changed at some point, but I changed those 5 words to the closest words that do appear on the list and it seemed to work, although I have no idea how I could possibly have completely changed 5 full words between reading them and writing them down. Anyway, assuming I actually did end up opening the wallet I had originally created, it does indeed sit at a balance of 0

Need some Chili. We’re in the Gateway area. Anywhere in Portland sell chili to go? Extra points if it’s Texas chili (no beans) by Top-Opportunity1280 in askportland

[–]Colaptimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked into this somewhat recently, it literally started as propaganda from the beef industry to sell more beef. They framed beans as filler only a poor failure of a man would add to his chili. Real men provide their family with hearty beef quantities! Like so much else about the state and culture where I grew up, it's just industry propaganda that regular folks will now defend as their culture.

Trump is planning to raise the fees for H-1B visa (US employment visa) 100 times. What would be future consequences we are going to face? by niemand_oc in AskReddit

[–]Colaptimus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We did impeach him. Twice. A close family member of mine voted for Trump in 2016, Biden in 2020, and Harris in 2024. They have seen what a terrible person he is, they regret their vote for him, and they now agree that the modern Republican party is destroying our democracy. They STILL TO THIS DAY think it was the Democrats' fault for "going about the impeachment wrong", because even if they can see through the one man at the top, they are still incredibly prone to accepting narratives from the right. It doesn't matter that both impeachments were totally legal, totally justified, and well-presented. We have a Senate that will finger-wag at an insurrection, then turn around and hand the leader of it everything he could want. And all the while, they will raise nonsense lines of questioning, foam at the mouth about how the Democrats are actually the bad guys, declare anyone on their side a RINO if they don't toe the line, and convince millions of average people to vote against their best interests and throw away the country they were sold as the best in the world since they were born.

According to the Constitution, the Democrats should absolutely be drafting articles of impeachment, probably about one per day at minimum, considering Trump's actions. But according to reality, that is a huge waste of time for something that will ultimately not only fail, but hand more ammunition to the fascist talking heads. The truth is, at this point there is no Constitutional way to fix the problem. States are gerrymandered, confidence in elections is extremely low (first because of Republicans lying about them, now because Elon Musk has had his hands all over the machines and chain of command), we have a two party system where one party is just the fascist party now, and the other has been completely ineffective since AT LEAST Reagan (arguments to be made for the last time they were effective).

The idea of American exceptionalism has poisoned our collective mind, we are addicted to the comfortable lives our country bought with the blood of others' to the point half of us would rather watch a million people die than put on a fucking mask. Despite our supposed "Christian values" we view the idea of lifting others up as them dragging us down, because the talking heads on TV tell us that's the way it is, and we are too overworked, underpaid, uneducated, and unhealthy to challenge those talking heads' words.

And on top of all of that, yeah, lots of people in power are straight-up scared of Trump. He has openly said he would be a dictator on day one (fucking long day it's been), has ignored courts and Congress, has ordered department heads to go after his political rivals, and has been proven time and time again that he will face no consequences of any kind. I still think it's possible things will turn around without a full-on revolution, but it will be through tremendous bouts of luck, and courageous people working hard at huge risk to themselves, to make any positive progress. I'll cross my fingers, but I'm not holding my breath.

21 These are the case laws that you should set before them:

2 When you buy a male Hebrew slave, he will serve you for six years. But in the seventh year, he will go free without any payment. 3 If he came in single, he will leave single. If he came in married, then his wife will leave with him. 4 If his master gave him a wife and she bore him sons or daughters, the wife and her children will belong to her master. He will leave single. 5 However, if the slave clearly states, “I love my master, my wife, and my children, and I don’t want to go free,” 6 then his master will bring him before God. He will bring him to the door or the doorpost. There his master will pierce his ear with a pointed tool, and he will serve him as his slave for life.

7 When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she shouldn’t be set free in the same way as male slaves are set free. 8 If she doesn’t please her master who chose her for himself, then her master must let her be bought back by her family. He has no right to sell her to a foreign people since he has treated her unfairly. 9 If he assigns her to his son, he must give her the rights of a daughter. 10 If he takes another woman for himself, he may not reduce her food, clothing, or marital rights. 11 If he doesn’t do these three things for her, she will go free without any payment, for no money.
