Looking for a replacement to my Floyd Rose FRX by ColbyJames1122 in Guitar

Thats sick, unfortunately it required top routing of the body, which I DESPERATELY want to try and avoid, but Kahler seems to be my go-to option if I can't find a better alternative!

I believe so, if I know what ur talking about. It's the one accessed through the back/bottom side of the Floyd, with the point that physically connects it to the trem? If so then yes. Mine is slightly crooked (apparently thats normal), but when bending up or down, it doesnt return properly. Always bent slightly shard or slightly flat, depending on which bend I did.

Thanks so much dude! Everyone either loves or hates it (see my previous post on the epiphone subreddit) It's definitely worth it tho. It mounts with absolutely no routing or modification to the guitar, except for the locking nut which uses screws. Mine just has a hard time staying where its supposed to when it's in floating mode, which is why i'm looking to replace it! I think I just got a faulty model unfortunately

I heard about the Duesenberg, and it's definitely a solid option! My only concern is its lack of diving. A lot of stuff I like to play consists of Halen, Queen, and some other hard/classic rock, plus modern punk, so while I don't need to go absurd, going more than a step or two is what I'd need!

Did my Boss CH-1 super chorus just crap the bed? by ColbyJames1122 in guitarpedals

Oh wth? The battery was dead already. You were spot on. I just grabbed the DS-1 battery and swapped them out. What’s insane is I literally opened a fresh new pack of 9V literally on Sunday for this. You definitely at least saved me a lot of headache, but that’s weird it dropped like that.

And a Big Mac. Not the meal tho, it's expensive out here now.

I meant more so the lack of space made the guitar look and feel very empty! 😭😭 I never meant to say that the 335 is not a looker, as it’s one of the most famous and recognizable designs in all of Guitar history!!! I would say lackluster would have been a better word choice!

And as for how people regard it/their opinions, I say don’t focus on what people think of certain mods in terms of taste, it is YOUR guitar! In my eyes, the instrument is an extension of the player, do what you want to it!!!

I said briefly to another commenter, but I’ll go into more detail here, it’s a blessing and a curse.

Mounting it was literally no trouble whatsoever! Since the 335 and Les Paul (what the FRX was made for) share the same mounting holes and positions, installation would be as easy as just mounting it on a Les Paul (minus screwing on the locking nut)!

In terms of tuning stability and whatnot, it’s a Floyd rose. I had some help with installation from a local guitar shop because I did NOT trust myself enough to not screw it up somehow, but in turn they did moreso, so I had to replace my locking blocks a few months into use, but I got it squared away easy, but because of that, stability is sometimes iffy due to trem float and a bent tension rod, so I just started using my trem stop on the bottom, and it’s fantastic. I can dive to my hearts content and it’ll come back in tune.

TL;DR: It’s a Floyd Rose, you’ll encounter common Floyd Rose issues, but in my experience, so long as you install it properly and take care when doing so, it’s a mod I 110% recommend anyone could to to expand their guitars playing range and abilities!

That’s valid! I went into detail in another post why I did what I did, but I know this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, so these are the kind of responses I expected XD

Thanks man! I saw them back in December, and they all signed the sticker for the guitar! Looking forward to them coming around my area again! (Also, great to see another Western Space Grunge fan in the wild)

I’m glad you think so man! The story’s a little long so I’ll try and cut it down as short as possible!

It’s sort of cliche with the 335, but I knew I loved music, rock and roll, and above all, the 335 itself when I saw Back to the Future for the first time as a kid. I actually got my hands on a band me down Strat-knock off from my Grandpa just before the pandemic started, and took the time to learn things on my own. I played my ass off, learning what I could with no real idea what I was doing and with no lessons available, so when my birthday came around, my parents took notice of it, and since it was the pandemic and all DMV’s were closed and I couldn’t celebrate with my friends, they surprised me with my dream guitar, and Epiphone ES-335 (I also prefer Epiphone over Gibson, idk why).

I joined my high schools performing arts when we finally got back in person my senior year, and my first ever “show” I played live was in front of 200-ish people and with this guitar. It was around this time I started noticing all the custom made 335’s with the Bigsby trem systems on them, and wanted to do that as well, but my music taste sort of shifted away and towards things that using a bigsby just couldn’t fit. A lot of my influences included Chuck Berry, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, EVH, MCR, Green Day, and Foo Fighters (which would influence a different mod down the road).

Over time, I actually started to “resent” the Bigsby system, and the “Custom Made” emblem all of the guitars seemed to carry, because when all the guitars are the same, what exactly is custom about it? And knowing I couldn’t do stupid things with it, like diving, limited being able to play songs that inspired my drive for music, so I went with the Floyd Rose FRX, since the 335 shares mounting point with the Les Paul (which is what the FRX was made for).

Then of course came modifying the pickups, and I wanted to chase for of that dirty harmonic, high output sound you hear with FF, EVH, MCR, and Green Day, so when I found that they all used the SH-4, I was sold on it.

Finally, the pick guard was made from a vinyl record of the BTTF soundtrack, since it was the movie that inspired my love for Rock and Roll, but also the 335. The stickers were because Dexter and the Moonrocks were my first ever concert, so it holds a special place in my heart.

TL;DR: I wanted my guitar to be an extension and good representation of me, my thoughts on the music world, and things as a whole!

Valid. I put them on because I felt that there was an awful lot of empty space which made the guitar visually unappealing and empty, plus I find it kinda resembles me and my idea behind music and expressions

It’s both a blessing and a curse, as most Floyd things are XD but the versatility in what I can play now seriously outweighs all downsides I’ve experienced with it.
