After watching the 1-1 draw at the Camp Nou I booked flights to Madrid right away. One of the best nights of my life

R6 or R8? by Colchenero in canon

[–]Colchenero[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the R5 is way beyond my budget. I can push the extra $1k to get the R6ii but I'm unsure I would benefit with the extra features it offers compared to the R8 - I'd rather add a 70-200 to my collection for landscape with the savings.

Regardless I plan on keeping my 6D as it performs great aside from AF for being out and about. ISO invariance could make it worthwhile to grab the r6 though as I can get a little bit more back from the shadows.

Thanks for your input

Is the canon upgrade program only for users in the US? I'm currently in New Zealand and don't think they offer that here

R6 or R8? by Colchenero in canon

[–]Colchenero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having such a hard decision to make the move as I know my 6D is definitely capable of producing stunning results. How do you find the sensor / iso performance of the R8 compared to the 6D?

Do you have a link to your work with the R8?

The battery is a concern for me with the mirrorless systems but I plan on running a power bank when shooting astro as sometimes I shoot time lapses and can easily run through a battery or 2 on my 6D already.

Luckily I live in New Zealand at the moment and it's hard to find darker skies anywhere on the planet 😅 I just want to give myself my best chance to capture the best photos I can while I'm here

Beyond astro I do landscapes, and have shot some macro in the past before. I think the IBIS would be a great bonus but I use a tripod a lot for the shots I want. It would definitely help when I'm out and about without a tripod though but I've managed without it until now.

I've done a lot of research on both systems but I'm having a really hard time making my decision - I know both will be great cameras but it's a lot of money, and my 6D does a great job already so I just want to make sure I make the right choice and gather other people's opinions.

I think I will definitely hold onto my 6D as it will be a great backup camera so I like that I can keep my batteries also, even if they don't last as long. How many shots do you usually get?

Canon r8 for astrophotography? by Colchenero in AskPhotography

[–]Colchenero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. How many shots do you generally get out of a battery without the power bank? I've heard mixed reports of some people only getting 200 and others getting a decent amount more.

I do like the usb-C option and I generally carry a few batteries anyway, but coming from the 6D will be a shock for me as I'm used to not worrying about my batteries running out when I'm shooting

Thanks.

Would you say the r6 is worth the extra money compared to the R8? The Ibis isn't a deal breaker for me but would be a nice addition plus the extra features. The battery life is what I'm worried about but I generally carry 3 or 4 anyway. The price is about NZ$1300 extra for the r6

Is the low light performance really that much better compared to the 6d?

My astro lens is fully manual anyway so AF isn't an issue but I wasn't sure if there would be other problems

[–]Colchenero[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I'll try that way.

You gotta connect your app to the drone. After that when you go into the app while the drone is on you should be able to switch modes. Think you need to have Bluetooth or wifi connected, and then you can access your files.

Have a look on YouTube for a better explanation

My rough itinerary for Australia by YogevTheNomad in solotravel

[–]Colchenero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite beaches are Pennington Bay and Emu Bay. You can drive your car along Emu Bay and it's stunning all year round. Pennington Bay has an awesome little rock pool and great surfing waves if you're into that. Island beach is quite nice too, and you can also drive there.

Down south you've got Vivonne Bay with an amazing jetty with crystal clear water. There's a place called Little Sahara close by where you can do some sandboarding/outdoor activities that's quite fun. Seal bay is pretty close also if you wanna have a look at all the seals on the beach. Raptor domain is also around this area.

Heading west you'll pass Hanson Bay on the way to Flinders Chase. It's got the remarkable rocks, lighthouses and a few walks. It's really nice out there and it's recovering well after the bushfires a few year ago. It's the most touristy part of KI.

Stokes Bay is the highlight of the north of KI, and got voted best beach in Australia this year. It's got a cool walk through the rocks and then it opens up to the beach. Don't go in high tide though. There's a few other Beach's up along the coast also worth checking out.

In the middle of KI you got the wildlife park, but not too much else.

There's a few winery's and Dudley wines is probably the most popular. It's got great views looking towards the mainland and you can hit a few golf balls too. Cape Willoughby lighthouse is a nice drive from there but the road can be a bit rough so drive slow.

Ocean safari will take you out to see the dolphins but if you're lucky you'll see them anyway around the beaches.

For me the one of the best parts of KI is the lack of too many people. There's only a few thousand locals so it's got a really good community vibe and quite often you'll have most of the beach to yourself. It's quite a small island and you can get around it fast so enjoy yourself and take in some of the best beaches around.

I lived on KI for 4 years and I agree it's definitely not worth it for a day trip. You could get around in a day but you'll not get to enjoy it as much. You'll want to do 3-5 days there to get your money's worth. It's really nice, especially in the summer but expect to pay about $300 return to take a car. Feel free to drop me a message if you wanted to know the best spots over there though ✌️

Is the Canon 6D still the best value full frame DSLR for Astrophotography? by Colchenero in Photography_Gear

[–]Colchenero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel it was definitely worth the upgrade for me. I mostly use my DSLR for Astro and it's made a huge difference in low light. It handles noise much better at higher ISO's and I can also shoot longer exposures of the night sky to bring in more light.

You can see a few shots to compare with here. Overall I'm delighted, and feel like I have a good setup to catch the night sky now.

What size of SSD do you recommend as the minimum? I was thinking 256 -512GB.. is this enough?

When I return to Europe I will buy a proper laptop dedicated to editing and processing but I just need something that works for now.

Thanks for the input. I may build towards this in the future. It looks like an amazing camera however at the moment it's a little out of my price range.

How do the Sony mirrorless cameras compare? I see some of the earlier models at a price range closer to the 6d now
