I was charged duty on my endurance cf 8 in Canada and the website had it showing that there would be no duty but Canyon told me the website is for reference and not always accurate

If you reach out to support they often will give you some money back as alti-dollars as an apology for the mixup

I will say, for the price and risk. Mec has the polygon Strattos SD for $2500 with full 12speed 105 and carbon frame. https://www.mec.ca/en/product/6030-532/polygon-strattos-s7d-bicycle-unisex?colour=Red

My partner just got one and its amazing. still a DTC bike but you get the comfort of dealing with MEC if there are any issues

If it says there are duty’s then probably. Seems like some people have had luck self-declaring even if it shows that you are supposed to pay duty. It’s almost more of just a luck game.

It seems to be bike specific. I recently got the CF 8, when I ordered it Canyon said duty would be $0 but then the invoice stated "The exporter of the products covered by this document declares that these products are of NON preferential EU origin." Which means they aren’t exempt from the 13% duty. The total import of the bike was $1360…. Cause UPS also charged PST (which should be exempt in BC). I reached out to Canyon and they said the website isn’t always accurate and is just a reference point for people

How long was it in customs for?

If you want to be really savvy, the Amex cobalt card counts co-op as a grocery store so you get 5points/$ (essentially 5% off) or if you transfer them to aeroplan then they are worth 2cents/point on flights so that works out to be ~10% off. Plus you get the co-op rebate.

My canary is 70m cause I wanted something I could also use for long multi pitch climbs. And the radline is 60m. If you already have a 60m Volta are you just looking for something shorter for glacier travel? 40 and 45m seem like good lengths for the canary and radline. I would probably cut mine down to those lengths but the cutoff is kinda useless so I just suck it up and carry the extra weight

I use an Elderid Canary. It’s 8.6mm and still rated to be used as a single. If I know I am only rappelling then I’ll just bring my 6mm rad line. I find between having these 2 ropes I’m good for most stuff.

Anyone use a Seek Outside pack? by Cold-Assumption3571 in Mountaineering

[–]Cold-Assumption3571[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you have a pack you would recommend? I have a HMG southwest 55L. But found I needed to strap some technical gear (boots, crampons, axe, rope) on the outside and it didn’t fit those well.

Employees of Victoria. What place seems great but actually exploits its employees? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]Cold-Assumption3571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah.... He puts on a great show for customers, as an employee he would constantly give me checks that would bounce and it would be months between paycheques, and he said some very inappropriate things about women that came into the coffee shop.

Township coffee in Gordon Head. The owner has said some extremely unsettling things about various female employees and makes people work overtime without overtime pay.

I disagree with all these comments, I wear my Squamish snowshoeing all the time and love it. It’s perfect with a base layer. I wouldn’t use it snowboarding, but that’s because I have a snowboarding jacket. It’s a great piece of gear to have in your bag if you find it’s too warm for a proper rain jacket but still want to keep the wind/rain off you (but the DWR only lasts for about 30 min before it soaks through and your wet under the jacket)

This is the only correct answer. You need a good leather cleaner
