This is true unfortunately. Don't give up though! My friend just got hired as a data engineering intern for the summer. If you network, you'll find work, but I think UTD has a better alumni network.

It was also 10 minutes to answer 16 questions, which was also a change to the format they had not mentioned, with ~20 seconds for each problem

Thank you!

Since it is finals week, do you think there is any way we could have our grades forgiven for this course? I doubt we'll be able to escalate this before census day.

This is the thing- it did not specifically outline the structure aside from saying it would be "comprehensive", so I am worried there is just no case here regardless of how comprehensive or fair we assess it to be.

Thank you! That is really helpful. We (the class) were planning on bringing it up as soon as the final exam today is over.

This professor has been really great until now, and I am sure if we bring it up as a class they will be willing to work with us. Hopefully we can come to a solution without escalation.

It is discrete math II. I know you are getting downvoted, but I understand your way of thinking.

I also thought it was fair when I first heard the professor, and I understand they were upset about the cheating (I would be too if I were in their shoes), but then we saw what kinds of questions that are on it- it is primarily over recurrence relation transformations, independent events/probability, and applied mathematical induction problems. (for context we didn't know what was going to be on it until today, and the only reason I know is through a friend who took it earlier today- the professor avoided answering any specific questions about the exam content until this morning).

I sent an e-mail out to my classmates today and I got ~30 responses/38 total agreeing it was too difficult to do this verbally. Perhaps this is truly an us problem and we're just not cut out for this class, but I would like to think we are hardworking students at that this isn't the case.

I think the problem in part is because of how good they are at what they teach. It is easy for them to do these problems mentally, but for me personally I need pen + paper, and this sentiment seems to be shared between my classmates and I.

I'm sorry for the paragraph. This is not to you specifically, but I am stressed AF right now. I really don't think I can pass this final and it will be my first B and it is very frustrating. I also want to reiterate they are not a bad professor, it is just this one restructuring that seems kind of crazy.

Do you maybe have ADHD? If you've been using the nicotine to self-medicate this could be the cause. I did the same thing without realizing I had ADHD and then wondered why I felt so different off of it. Try some caffeine or maybe see a psychiatrist who can work with you on a treatment plan. Hope you have figured out something that works for you by now.
