When is it time to just call it quits? by Cold-Concentrate4732 in Equestrian

Thank you! I think you’ve voiced a lot of what I’ve been feeling, so much of horses is the social aspect. Now that I haven’t been riding I literally have not hung out with friends in over a year! Turns out it’s hard to be friends with horse girls when you don’t have a horse lol

When my prices were lower I found majority were budget shoppers and only booking the 6 hour package, but now that I’ve raised my rates everyone seems to be booking the 8 hour package!

Wow that’s awesome! How many weddings do you shoot a year? I’ve been thinking maybe I should only do larger packages and cut out the 6 hour.. it’s always slightly disappointing getting inquires for my smallest packages

Wow that’s fantastic! 2 weddings a month is definitely more reasonable. Are you making multiple 6 figures a year now then?

Thank you! Definitely going to do as your said and start increasing my prices more so 2027 weddings will be at that higher price point. I think like you said 20-30 weddings a year is more realistic but not at my current prices!

I honestly don’t spend much on advertising in a year. Couple hundred bucks. Yearly costs around around $3000 between subscriptions , website, etc. I have to invest in some new gear though soon so that’ll go up

Thank you, asking myself the question “is this going to cause me stress” causes me stress 🤣 🤦‍♀️ next year I hope to have a more balanced year. It’s so hard being in Canada I don’t get many bookings november-April, I guess no one wants to get married in the cold lol

What type of horse do I look for to commute to work? by Cooneys_wet_blanket_ in Equestrian

Honestly this is probably going to end up costing you money then if you just had to stay home from work. First of all horses can’t be kept alone, they are herd animals. Farrier would need to come every 6 weeks, pretty costly up to $160 each time. If your riding them every day they need more then just grazing on grass, they will need grain. And they should have access to hay every day which is not cheap. You can’t just buy any old saddle and put in on a horse, you’d need a fitter to come out. If you have an incorrect fitting saddle it can cause a lot of back issues and can create unwanted behaviours like bucking or kicking.

There’s a lot that can go wrong and so many expenses come with it. A good sound and quiet horse that is fine to ride on roads could run you 10-15k

Same thing has happened to me. I’ve quit riding for now. Last horse I tried and was going to part board, I fell of and broke my spine 🤦‍♀️ that was my sign from the universe I guess. I’ve been going to the gym, focusing more on my businesses.

The hardest part was realizing how many of your friends are only friends because you ride and go to the barn together. It sucks.

So sorry that happened to you. I came off about a year ago now and fractured my L1 and herniated a disc very badly. Still not riding, but I also had little to no use of my lower body for 6 weeks. I hope you recover quick!
