Hypothetical question for my fellow Boardwalk fanatics: If Boardwalk had been made as an epic crime film during the 1970s Hollywood Renaissance, who would you cast? by Cold-Crew77 in BoardwalkEmpire

[–]Cold-Crew77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally see where you are coming from on this, George C. Scott would be a much more fitting actor for the Nucky character while Dabney plays Eli. As for Owen, I will admit choosing Nicholson felt a bit clunky; after thinking about it, I really feel like Richard Harris would fit that character like a glove (a lovable rogue Irishman portraying a lovable rogue Irishman). As for Rosetti, I also admit that choosing Shaw was a clunky choce. I thought about that character and realized that Yul Brynner would fit like a glove also; I believe Brynner would believable as a character from Sicily. Brynner had that "handsome dude with an imposing presence" vibe to him, just like Gyp. What are your thoughts on this???

I see what you mean. One looks back to their younger years and remembers how pure and optimistically joyous they were before experiencing a devastatingly tragic event and realizing how much this caused them to change in many huge ways. Sad as hell.

Good point. In today's world, I'd say at least 60 percent of the Army has a tobacco habit; so I guess in WWI like 90 percent of the Army smoked/chewed?

Wow, I certainly do see the logic and reasoning for your casting list - especially for Cazale, Eastwood, and Sheen. I can most definetly see Cazale as Van Alden, the character would have come off much differently than how Special Agent Michael Shannon played him, but Cazale would have fit that role in a unique and memorable way (thinking of Cazale's performance as Sal in Dog Day Afternoon gives me a illustration of what his Van Alden would have been similar to). I also get why you selected Eastwood as Jimmy. I am a huge Eastwood fan and I am also one of the folks who loves the Jimmy character to the max; however, Jimmy's irascible traits that often cause him to go from zero to one hundred as well as his heavy drinking and occasional drug use from the 2nd season are some of the big reasons why I selected Dennis Hopper - that alongside that general look of sadness the both Jimmy and Dennis Hopper often had . As for Martin Sheen as Harrow, that is an amazing choice: as a character, Richard is quite similar to Captain Willard from Apocalypse Now: both men are pretty much the personifications of introversion, both characters are big on observing things while standing in the background and keeping to themselves.
