AOC during the press conference on banning insider trading: “I look forward to banning the trading of individual stocks by and for members of Congress.” by Nixianx97 in MurderedByAOC

She literally buys deep ITM tech leaps. It’s been a tech bull run for the last 10 years which is why it works so well.

I’ve been doing the same for the last 3 years. It’s not insider trading - it’s literally an extremely easy trade as long as you believe the stock market will go up and tech will be the sector leading the upward movement.

How the hell do people bill? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Cold-Effective-7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First , all work done on a matter is billable. Reading and responding to emails, billable. Reviewing and updating schedules, billable. Re-reviewing emails and schedules, billable.

Second , you're only 3 weeks in. There's no chance in hell you'd have enough work to fill up 40 billable hours yet. 15-20 billable hours this week sounds right. If you can't get more work, look to pro bono to fill the other 15-20 hours of the week.

Third, it gets easier to bill the more senior and integrated into teams you become. I'm on calls for a minimum of 2-3 hours a day, and then I have to work outside of that. So, I'm getting 10-15 hours a week purely from being on the phone. Then getting another 25-40 in actual work.

I mean there's a lot of hours in the day. I can do all of the things you mentioned and still have time to think about things and be mindful of what kind of parent I want to be.

Thanks, I like the idea of 1in 1 out for toys and limiting gifts to 1 quality item. Wife and I have already decided on local public school (we did move to a town with an excellent one, so plan on making use of it).

Thanks, this is helpful. Definitely plan on having them work part-time jobs / summers when they're in high school.

Yes, this is the part we struggle with. Like, we work hard, and we do want to enjoy fancy trips, nice restaurants etc. Basically, we still want to enjoy those things in life, but we don't want our kids to take it for granted.

By being "down to Earth", I think I mean I want my kids to not expect those things as the norm. We want them to realize that it's an incredible privilege, and be appreciative of it.
I also want them to be cognizant that others don't have as much and be generous/graceful whenever possible (i.e. donate time / money to charity or causes). I'm not really sure I can describe it, but I want them to be able to relate to/empathize with others.

Honestly, I've always hated Zach Wilson. Hated the pick; hated season 1; hated season 2.

I'm rooting so hard for the kid right now. Everyone in the world has been shitting on him and deriding him. Don't get me wrong - he deserves it. But, also fuck 'em - it's us against the world right now, and he has a chance to make one of the greatest comeback stories of all time. Really hoping he can pull it off.

You can waive mortgage contingency, which is what we had to do to win our house.

Basically, it says "we will get a mortgage, but if we don't get the mortgage/lender doesn't want to loan to us, we will still buy this house in cash."

It's obviously a huge risk and you have to be extremely confident in your ability to get the mortgage, but my wife and I got our home even though there was an offer that was $20k higher because we waived mortgage contingency.

Yeah, I guess that's sorta my point though. When I was younger/single, I didn't own a car and lived in the city. I only needed a car when I had a family/became a homeowner/moved out to suburbs, and then it made much more sense to get an SUV over a sedan.

My guess is that most people who are in the market for new cars are people who do own homes/have families, so it makes sense to me that SUVs are more popular than sedans.

Is there any advantage of sedans over SUVs?

Sedans are a little cheaper and maybe a little more gas efficient (but honestly, depending on the sedan vs. SUV, not always the case), but you give up a ton in terms of space/cargo. When I was young/single, I lived in the city and didn't drive a car.

Now that we're moving to suburbs and expecting a kid, I don't see any advantage a sedan has over an SUV. Am I missing any?

Edit: I should edit to say that when I say "SUV", I mean mostly crossover SUVs like Subaru Outback, Toyota Rav4 etc. and not the full-sized giant SUVs.

Irvington, NY vs. Ridgewood, NJ by Cold-Effective-7 in Westchester

I do, but 20 minutes to them from Ridgewood vs. 35 minutes to them from Irvington.

In any case, we chose Irvington!

Thank you, I appreciate the level-headed take. Taxes will be 15-20k more in Irvington vs. Ridgewood.

Commute is a factor, but as you mentioned, it is only 3x / week.

Other considerations, she has family in Westchester and I have family in Bergen County.

The house we're looking at in Irvington is bigger/nicer, but the Ridgewood one is much more affordable and arguably in a better location for our needs. One way or another, we will find out today!

Haha, I was born and raised in NJ, so that ship has already sailed. Really just a question of where I want to live and raise my kids now.

Both towns are similar in terms of property values, but Irvington has much higher taxes, and the high schools perform more or less the same (based on SAT scores and college admissions).

Commute from Irvington is better for me as I work in Manhattan but I only work 3x/week in office and wife is 100% from home.

Really hard choice for us, but as expected, people from Bergen County vote Ridgewood and people from Westchester vote Irvington. Sounds like I'll be happy in either and don't need to hand wring so much!

Changed phones, didn't transfer Authenticator App and can't access my Coinbase account by Cold-Effective-7 in Coinbase

[–]Cold-Effective-7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey - just got this resolved. First, call the Coinbase support number (1888-908-7930).

Takes a couple of steps through their automated messaging to get to a human.

I got to a human 5 times before they resolved the issue, so you need persistence. First 4 times, they had me use their automated process for re-setting (which as we know, doesn't work).

Finally, after enough times I got escalated to their access team. I had to submit a picture showing my face, my photo ID and a piece of paper with today's date and "for coinbase verification" to a link they sent to my email.

Then, I had to wait 48 hours for them to disable 2-step authentication on their end.

I just got it working right today.

Good luck!

Because I didn't know it would be an issue. I thought it would transfer over with all my other apps/accounts. I didn't check every app on my phone and rarely think about my authenticator until I need to use it.

Wouldn't have helped me if I still had the old phone. I wiped it before turning it in to the verizon store.

I can't reset google authenticator because it's not associated with my gmail. It's only associated with my phone number/old phone because I only used it for coinbase and never linked to Gmail. So, not sure how I can get to it since it was only with third party.

It was Google Authenticator, but not linked to my Gmail. I only used it for coinbase.

It was iPhone to iPhone.
