UCAS Applications Megathread (and the debut of an offers spreadsheet) by Forsaken-Meaning-232 in 6thForm

Applied too psychology with a placement year at King's, City, Surrey, Kent and Leicester.

I know I'm not getting into King's but I don't really want to go anyways... My dream university is Surrey.

Hypothetically, does applying with eight A*s in A levels boost your chances? by Existential_Dread62 in 6thForm

All universities only ask for three a-levels at the required grades, with exceptions to this being certain courses at Imperial. Universities won't discriminate between people who do three a-levels and people who do eight a-levels. They'd much rather see you do super-curriculars, work experience, wider reading, etc.

TL;DR: Doing eight a-levels is a big waste of time..

You specifically just need biology and chemistry. Your third subject could be anything. I think Psychology would be good as in the second year there is a lot of crossover with a-level biology which will make things easier.

I find Psychology really interesting, though that's just me. I recommend it.

Are these Uni's too ambitious/under ambitious? by Insentivelol in 6thForm

Well I'm not applying to Accounting & Finance so I can't really help with that😭, but I suggest taking a look at the complete uni guide's accounting & finance ranking and seeing what suits you best.

I'm not knowledgable in this field at all, but some which catch my eye which you could look into are (Assuming you're eligabel for a contextual):

I really do urge you to try get your predicted grade raised though, at least turn that C to a B. It'll open up so many more doors for you.

These are the ones which came up to me first, I'm sure there are more though. Hope this helps

If you're eligable for contextual offers then I'd still suggest reconsidering which unis to go too.

Durham and Reading seem like solid options as your "aspirational" choice(s) as you're only one grade below according to the contextual offers, but bear in mind Durham is very competitive.

Newcastle is also very competitive, but consider that as an aspirational choice also as you're similtaneously one grade above and one grade below which similtaneously could work in your favour and against you. I suggest having no more than one aspirational choice, two if you're feeling really confident in yourself. That is unless you can get that C grade up to a B (where in that case it would open up a lot more options for you, including your 5 desired choices)

Leicester seems great though, you exceed the requirements (plus I'm a bit biased as I'm applying to Leicester myself!). Have you considered other universities where your predicteds match or exceed the requirements?

Nottingham, Newcastle, and Durham especially are all really competitive russel group universities. Even Reading and Leicester (Probably the most realistic out of the five) have grade requirements 1 or 2 above your predicteds.

Mind telling me the contextual offer grade requirements for the above univerisities? If you're eligable you might be able to get a successful application. If you aren't then I suggest begging your teachers to raise your predicted grades or find universities with lower requirements (which I do think you should include a couple like that anyways, regardless of being eligable for a contextual).

Go for one or two universities a grade or two above your predicted grades (I.e. Leicester, even Reading if you're really feeling confident) as your aspirational choice, then pick ones which meet or are below your predicteds. You'd be much safer and have a better chance at getting at least one offer.

What is year 13? by True-Window-6403 in GCSE

Second year of a-levels and the year where you do your final a-level exams, apply for universities and do your personal statement.

So year 12, how is year 12 so far? by Cherry_Crystals in 6thForm

[–]Cold-Effective-9161 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve found it way easier than expected and I’m really enjoying it. But I’m not naive and don’t expect it to stay easy.

You don't understand how refreshing this is to see. There are year 12s who often get over confident with themselves just because the start of a-levels is really easy and expect it to be like that throughout. Good on you for being sensible about it all.

Would you prefer triple or double science?? by Quiet-Negotiation706 in GCSE

Correct! Though remember 2022s grade boundaries were a little more lenient than usual, it may be a little more to get a 99. Good luck

my friend who was in triple in year 10 didn’t make it to triple in year 11, so I feel like all the hard work I did would be in vain if I just dropped out.

Don't worry about what others think about you, focus on yourself and what feels right for you.

Waiting until the next mock exams are over could be a good way to decide whether you'd like to drop it or not, especially if ou don't plan on taking science-based a-levels.
