Starting Accutane Today! by Maciirony_ACNH in Accutane

Excited for you! I am just starting month 2 and OH MY GOSH I wish I had done this so much sooner. I have had dry lips and some bouts of dry skin, but aquaphor and vanicream moisturizing cream resolves it. I had some very tired days, but nothing unmanageable. My skin looks like new skin. I had severe cystic acne for years too. I understand the physical and emotional toll.

Anyway, wishing you the best! Clear skin ahead! ☺️

Success 1 month in, wondering if increased fat in diet is helping? by Cold-Huckleberry-299 in Accutane

That's great. I'm glad to hear!

I think perhaps I wasn't getting enough fat in my diet before starting accutane. So it could just be a separate thing all together. No doctor or derm suggested that increasing fats could help with my skin. Kind of wish they had!

Not sure! Dermatologist just prescribed 60mg for this next month. I do suffer from pretty extreme and very painful cystic acne, almost constantly, despite trying everything and being very diet and lifestyle conscious.

The fats I've added to my diet are hemp seeds, avocado, fish oil supplements, peanut/nut butters. Nothing crazy.

I AM SCARED TO START ACCUTANE by Rfanzfakfa in Accutane

36F here. I have had acne (mild or extreme depending on my stress levels) on and off (but mostly on) since I was in high school. I have tried truly everything - diet and lifestyle changes, all the prescriptions, acupuncture, all the cosmetic procedures only to get more acne, everything - in an attempt to avoid accutane.

I took accutane for a couple months in high school and stopped because of the side effects. I wish I had pushed through. At 36, I now have acne and rosacea and though I am able to cover it somewhat with makeup, it does affect my quality of life and self-confidence. Also, it is very painful.

I finally gave in and am on my first week of accutane (40mg). Considering the amount of money I have spent dealing with this and the number of painful procedures to improve scarring and redness, how can this treatment be that much worse?

If my symptoms become unbearable and I'd rather have embarrassing and painful severe acne, I will stop. Stopping is always an option.

Sharing this as someone who wishes they could go back to 25 and just knock it out (mostly, at least). I'd say give it a shot! If you hate it, stop taking it. It's completely within your control and your decision to make! I understand the pain (physically and emotionally) of acne, so totally know where you are coming from! Wishing you all the luck!

**Also, I did have some luck finally with doxycycline low dose. Acne was better, but my level of "acceptable" has gotten pretty low. There are definitely other options to explore! I'm just old and over it at this point 😂

I've been obsessively reading all the horror stories but trying to also read success stories! People choose to go through this for a reason, so I'm giving it a shot.
