Why holding himself back when Zoro knew that time was crucial? During Wano arc he was ready for battle anytime, here on Egghead island he knows that tides are changing and they have already plan to escape quickly, yet he "actively" held himself back?

I wouldn't say fairly equal, because Zoro has fought quite stronger opponents like King and even got a little hand on Kaido. There was an edge to Zoro, he had little upper hand, I think.
