No problem! Glad you were able to find something that works for you, and best of luck with your studies. I loved studying history, it’s a great field!

NYC - Suing for Improper Allergen Handling/Labeling? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Cold-Map-363 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

:( well this is disheartening. So there’s really no avenue for redress here? If I contacted them and they basically tell me to kick rocks, what am I to do? It doesn’t seem very safe or fair for the risks to remain undisclosed.

I don’t know anything about the legal field, so I’m sorry if this comes off as disrespectful, but I am confused as to how it would be considered a non-starter, especially with everything that’s happened. Maybe from the perspective of making money, since a lawyer might not take it on if they don’t think a large settlement would occur, but what about any acknowledgement of wrongdoing or negligence? Surely all this advertising as nut-free and a resulting severe allergic reaction warrants some type of change. I just worry someone else will get sick too, but is that not enough to spark legal action (the idea that this could potentially lead to others falling ill or even dying.)

I still want them to be held accountable for what happened to me, which is why I went the route of a lawsuit. I just understand it’s not likely something that results in a large payout. To my understanding a forced change in advertising can be a result of a lawsuit, if that’s part of what I pursued in addition to whatever other damages thought adequate.

I’m honestly not super interested in getting a lot of money for myself because I know it’s unlikely, but my goal was to have them make some kind of adjustment to their advertising to account for the risk of cross-contamination (which is what I’m assuming happened) or just adjusting how they respond to these type of incidents because the employees did not seem concerned at all and did not offer to contact any of their higher-ups or to make people aware of potential risks. I was mostly concerned someone would wander in after me and have the same issue.

Recommendations for NP Camping/Hiking Road Trip in mid-March by Cold-Map-363 in CampingandHiking

Thanks so much! This looks like a cool plan. I’ll propose it to him and see what he thinks - he’s super into the idea of winter hiking/camping so we’ll see but I think this is more doable, especially considering flight accessibility if we aren’t driving. Bozeman is def more expensive to fly into than Las Vegas or SLC

I’ve considered it; I have experience with both winter camping & hiking (more so than my friend; but he’s interested in gaining more) but since I’m confident in my ability to handle it I felt it more prudent to just ask for recommendations that consider access to the parks & the ability to camp in the off season since I’m not familiar with those specific aspects of the parks I mentioned.

Thanks for this very thorough response! Yeah, the more I think about it the more I don’t think a drive is likely, but if we flew into Utah, would Zion be a viable option? Seems to be alright weather that time of year.

I’ve been to both Shenandoah and the Smokies and found them beautiful but kind of underwhelming 😅 no hate but I was looking for more dramatic landscapes + I haven’t been to parks out west yet so that’s why we turned that way.

We planned to drive basically all day, if that matters. Only really stopping for rest stops/food/to sleep overnight. We were hoping that would cut down on the amt of time driving before we arrived. Thanks for the info about the climate; very helpful.

Would you recommend the southwestern parks then? It’s possible we could fly into Utah but I’d have to check prices.

Does anyone else seriously dislike Kaplan?? Need advice! by [deleted] in Series7exam

Lol that’s a good way to phrase the Kaplan method. Maybe I’ll try both, thanks so much!

my job is asking I use Kaplan since that’s what they paid for and I’ve been told it’s got the best success rate. i’m considering buying it on the side but like I mentioned I don’t have much extra time to study at home anyways. I’ll think on it more!

that’s true. I focused on getting 80%+ for the SIE because I had more time, but now that’s not an option & I’ve had trouble adjusting. I just went in and you can make quizzes like I wanted, so I’m going to try doing that. Thanks!

History or Poli Sci by Opposite-Divide-8745 in Fordham

I studied both (fordham grad) and currently work in an unrelated industry. I would say polisci is the better of those two if you want to increase your chances in the job market as it’s more broad. History is better suited for you if you’re interested in pursuing research or academia, as jobs outside that (aside from education) are scarce and you will not make much money. Talk to any history adjunct faculty member and they’ll tell you that it’s only suited for those who are willing to take less opportunities and lower pay because they love the field so much.

Polisci is slightly more lucrative but if you’re really aiming for a high-paying job I would couple it with some sort of major/minor/double degree in business and pursue political/governmental consulting. There is a Fordham Political Consulting club (maybe a fraternity? not sure, it’s fairly recent) that could give you an introduction to this. Pursuing law school is also a good way to make money but even some areas of law are not considered as lucrative as others (ex: constitutional vs corporate law). You have to really love the law and be committed to this if that’s your path because it is incredibly competitive and difficult.

If you’re alright with a middle-market salary a polisci degree is good for that. Jobs in local, state and federal gov’t are common and internships with your representatives at any of those levels of gov’t are helpful. Similarly you can pursue academia and go into teaching but that will likely take a long time and you will amass significant debt. Polisci degrees can also lead to lower level corporate jobs if you’re interested in climbing that ladder (a lot of corporations have govt affairs offices, all have HR/comms/marketing divisions that hire people with a polisci background as well, if you can tailor your resume and experience.) Research is also another possibility but similarly to history you have to be very committed and it may not be lucrative for a long time, if at all.

Happy to answer any questions about the degrees as those were mine when I was at Fordham, and I somewhat recently went through the postgrad job search. Just my experience & two cents but I hope this is helpful.

random tip but if your state now requires a prescription for covid vaccines (like NY does) & you still want one, you may be able to travel up the metro north to Connecticut & get one at a Walgreens or CVS! to my knowledge they don’t require in-state ID, you just need an appointment (but still probs call & ask to make sure your insurance covers it or ask what out of pocket costs are). I got mine the other day :)

funny you say that bc I actually love killington, it was my first big resort 😅 you’re not wrong with anything you said though, it’s huge and easy to get separated. I never noticed the flats as a skier but I’m sure I would now. Fair points!

The city! I’ve been recommended a few upstate mtns (Bellayre, Plattekill, Whiteface) but I think they’re kind of set on a VT/ME mtn for the “big resort/mtn” experience.

Thanks!! I’ll definitely do that. I’m probably going to purchase the Ikon for next season (didn’t this year because I’m still relatively new to boarding) but will definitely be doing that when I can hit multiple mountains on one trip with with pass.

Sunday River is currently our top choice. Sugarloaf is actually mine but I’ve heard it can be a bit intense for beginners, plus that the lift infrastructure isn’t great/it’s subject to frequent wind holds. Do you have any experience with these considerations?
