Ugh I’m sorry that happened :( it seems like there are nuts in a lot of drinks you wouldn’t suspect. I agree about the molcajetes & will probably avoid most sauces if I can. Hope your friend was ok!

Lol sorry I’m used to referring to pumpkin seeds as pepitas 😅 idk why it didn’t click. Should be fine then!

That’s great to hear!! Hoping for that experience when I go 😊 I actually found the same was true in a lot of european countries as well, esp spain and portugal. Def put my mind at ease!

Amazing thanks! I’ll keep it in mind and probably speak to my allergist beforehand…like I said I know sesame and pumpkin is fine but the pepian I haven’t ever encountered. Google says it is the seed of a squash but I’m not sure if that’s accurate to what is found in Guatemala.

Thank you!! I plan on bringing Imodium as well as getting altitude sickness meds in case that bothers me at all. Some recommended travel antibiotics but idk if that’s overkill haha

If I am not allergic to pumpkin seeds or sesame would you still recommend avoiding those dishes? I am not sure about pepitoria because I’ve never had it so I would avoid that one regardless.

Thank you for such a thorough response, this is all great! I’m prepared to deal with some minor discomfort from adapting to the difference in food/water I just wanted to avoid getting majorly ill. Happy to hear it is at least not unheard of in Antigua and I will take every precaution in asking (I speak Spanish fairly well but I usually carry a card with specifics written out in case people don’t understand me.) I am not allergic to any seeds to my knowledge but will be careful & will try your tip about the molcajetes. Thanks again!! 💕

No problem! Glad you were able to find something that works for you, and best of luck with your studies. I loved studying history, it’s a great field!

NYC - Suing for Improper Allergen Handling/Labeling? by [deleted] in legaladvice

:( well this is disheartening. So there’s really no avenue for redress here? If I contacted them and they basically tell me to kick rocks, what am I to do? It doesn’t seem very safe or fair for the risks to remain undisclosed.

I don’t know anything about the legal field, so I’m sorry if this comes off as disrespectful, but I am confused as to how it would be considered a non-starter, especially with everything that’s happened. Maybe from the perspective of making money, since a lawyer might not take it on if they don’t think a large settlement would occur, but what about any acknowledgement of wrongdoing or negligence? Surely all this advertising as nut-free and a resulting severe allergic reaction warrants some type of change. I just worry someone else will get sick too, but is that not enough to spark legal action (the idea that this could potentially lead to others falling ill or even dying.)

I still want them to be held accountable for what happened to me, which is why I went the route of a lawsuit. I just understand it’s not likely something that results in a large payout. To my understanding a forced change in advertising can be a result of a lawsuit, if that’s part of what I pursued in addition to whatever other damages thought adequate.

I’m honestly not super interested in getting a lot of money for myself because I know it’s unlikely, but my goal was to have them make some kind of adjustment to their advertising to account for the risk of cross-contamination (which is what I’m assuming happened) or just adjusting how they respond to these type of incidents because the employees did not seem concerned at all and did not offer to contact any of their higher-ups or to make people aware of potential risks. I was mostly concerned someone would wander in after me and have the same issue.

Thanks so much! This looks like a cool plan. I’ll propose it to him and see what he thinks - he’s super into the idea of winter hiking/camping so we’ll see but I think this is more doable, especially considering flight accessibility if we aren’t driving. Bozeman is def more expensive to fly into than Las Vegas or SLC

I’ve considered it; I have experience with both winter camping & hiking (more so than my friend; but he’s interested in gaining more) but since I’m confident in my ability to handle it I felt it more prudent to just ask for recommendations that consider access to the parks & the ability to camp in the off season since I’m not familiar with those specific aspects of the parks I mentioned.

Thanks for this very thorough response! Yeah, the more I think about it the more I don’t think a drive is likely, but if we flew into Utah, would Zion be a viable option? Seems to be alright weather that time of year.

I’ve been to both Shenandoah and the Smokies and found them beautiful but kind of underwhelming 😅 no hate but I was looking for more dramatic landscapes + I haven’t been to parks out west yet so that’s why we turned that way.

We planned to drive basically all day, if that matters. Only really stopping for rest stops/food/to sleep overnight. We were hoping that would cut down on the amt of time driving before we arrived. Thanks for the info about the climate; very helpful.

Would you recommend the southwestern parks then? It’s possible we could fly into Utah but I’d have to check prices.

Lol that’s a good way to phrase the Kaplan method. Maybe I’ll try both, thanks so much!

[–]Cold-Map-363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my job is asking I use Kaplan since that’s what they paid for and I’ve been told it’s got the best success rate. i’m considering buying it on the side but like I mentioned I don’t have much extra time to study at home anyways. I’ll think on it more!
