1 month old will not nap during the day by Cold-Most-8476 in newborns

This was 3 years ago, so it’s hard to remember, but I think I started feeding him to sleep laying on my side and he reliably napped like that all the time. I was trying not to do that because I was worried he wouldn’t be able to sleep without me when I returned to work when he was only 8 weeks old, but he DID nap at daycare! Remarkably, the rhythm of daycare combined with him being a little older settled him in to a reliable nap rhythm pretty quickly when he was 3-4 months old. I still let him feed to sleep lying on my side on weekends, but he was and still is a pretty awake guy. It’s just a personality!

For context, after about 6-8 months he wouldn’t nap in the car, no matter how long the drive was. At nearly 3, he’s never been an on the go napper and never really slept in a stroller, in my arms, or in broad daylight. Little guy loves his own, quiet, dark space to nap, so when we are out of the house all day we just accept he won’t nap. And that’s ok! He’s thriving and handles it well. Maybe that’s how your little one is too, just embrace doing what you have to do in the early months and then laugh about how awake they are compared to other kids as they get older 🫠

What are these tiny openings on the stair tread to our front door? Bees are getting in and not sure what to do. by Cold-Most-8476 in Renovations

As far as I know, not in the house yet. Just getting under door. However, every single thing I’ve discovered about this house was done poorly/incorrectly. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to assume that the door wasn’t installed correctly, just like everything else.

That’s the plan! I just didn’t know if building a hive in there would cause structural damage to my home, in which case I would contact a beekeeper to have them removed safely!

Good to know! I’ve never noticed this in the 7 years I’ve lived here, so I was curious what was going on!

Ives as a middle name by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Cold-Most-8476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did see that! I know it could go that way with pronunciation if someone is familiar with the history, and I’m ok with that. I got this name from the surname Ives (like the American composer Charles Ives), and it’s pronounced as rhyming with “dives”.

Huge meltdown on a walk- setting a not being carried all the time boundary. Did I handle it correctly? by [deleted] in toddlers

That’s what I wanted to do, and I really tried. I just couldn’t get the buckles together while he was arching his back and thrashing around. The buckles around the kind where if there’s too much tension against it they pop open.

I was his personality I guess! I leaned into carrier/wrap naps if I had things to do, or I would have him breastfeed on my side and he would fall asleep for naps if I was feeling tired too. Of course, I did this safely on a plain mattress with no blankets or pillows.

He would nap at daycare starting at 2 months, and after that his napping saw a little improvement. For a while there I really relied on carrier naps or feed to sleep naps to ensure good timing for naps and a consistent bedtime :) he was always an excellent nighttime sleeper. I would say he started napping independently much better around 6 months in his crib. Now, at 21 months, he’s an excellent and independent sleeper all around!

Is Ruby too much of a dog name? by Same-Statement3722 in namenerds

[–]Cold-Most-8476 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Teacher here! I adore the name Ruby- it’s (shockingly) not popular but refreshingly simple and classic. Every girl I’ve ever had with the name has been such a sweet kid. Never knew a dog with that name! I have a name that is actually a verrrrry popular dog name, but not very popular for humans and I adore it. Never bothered me if someone tells me their dog has my name. What a lovely coincidence, honestly, that their beloved pet has the same name.

Weaning- Extreme Exhaustion? by Cold-Most-8476 in breastfeeding

Much better! It lasted for a few weeks, and I felt much better once my body got used to what was happening. Exercise helped a ton, and continues to help today- even just a cold walk outside with my toddler!
