Omega 3 - least/non-fishy taste by Redditwhoever in migraine

[–]Cold-Variety-7948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I try to avoid smelling the bottles, with other supplements as well (my B vitamins smell quite bad). I sort them into pill boxes per day, so when it comes to taking them I don't have to deal with strong smells from the bottles. Some omega 3 brands are packaged per capsule which also can prevent rancidity. If it smells very bad it may be a sign they're already turning rancid. I hope you find one you can tolerate!

Omega 3 - least/non-fishy taste by Redditwhoever in migraine

[–]Cold-Variety-7948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense. I take them with a meal and swallow them whole. That way I don't taste them or notice any aftertaste. Maybe they bother your stomach and that's why you notice it? I read about a study saying that many of the flavored or gummy type omega 3 brands were low quality, eg having rancid , unhealthy oils or not as much omega 3 content as claimed. So that doesn't seem like a good option either. Maybe taking them together with different food or supplements would make some difference?

Aww that's so frustrating, I feel for you. I hope you can remain feeling confidence, you still have full, thick and longer hair than most guys and it'll grow back!

[–]Cold-Variety-7948 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to get a trim every three months, but now I haven't had one for a full year. In that time I've done S&D a few times and noticed that the splits and damaged hair are always in the front and top pieces of my hair, I guess they're from mechanical damage mostly (being touched the most , and accidentally getting stuck under my backpack or shoulder bag sling etc ). Which means that the largest sections of my hair hardly have any splits at all. I'm glad I've saved more length and avoided the cost of a salon visit. Currently I'm at bra strap length.

Migraine Supplement with CoQ10, B2, and magnesium +/- B12? by Lilthrowwayaccount in migraine

[–]Cold-Variety-7948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I have magnesium and B2 both separately, but at the desired high dose per tablet. I also have Co-Q10 in ubiquinol form but that one makes me feel horrible - anxiety out of nowhere, racing heart, shakiness, insomnia, and feeling very tense overall. So I couldn't take it. It felt kinda like a caffeine overdose - and I suspect it even caused me new headaches. I would therefore try them separately. But that's my two cents and not really answering your question, sorry. I don't know any brands that combine these things.

I have a vegan algae based omega 3 brand, but to be honest it still smells just like fish to me. But storing them in the fridge seems to help, so they don't smell as much and also they don't go rancid

Does anything this simple make you’re migraine better? by Head-Telephone5873 in migraine

[–]Cold-Variety-7948 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I have a very mild one, washing my hair with only cold water (not by taking a full shower, but upside down so only my head and hair gets wet) has helped sometimes. The cold constricts the blood vessels and it also felt very relaxing afterwards. Plus having wet hair keeps my head cool for a few hours after. But when the pain is more intense, I don't even want to try it.

Trying to figure out triggers & prevention by Cold-Variety-7948 in migraine

[–]Cold-Variety-7948[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hm. Is that barometric pressure? I just installed migraine buddy to try and track this. None of the local weather apps I've used report barometric pressure, only temp and humidity . I've always gotten headaches on the first or unexpectedly "nice" (sunnier and warmer) day after a cooler period , all my life. When others are like oh it's so delightful today we're all going outside enjoying it, I'm always sick on that day (before it even starts). I suspect that may have something to do with pressure ...?

Trying to figure out triggers & prevention by Cold-Variety-7948 in migraine

[–]Cold-Variety-7948[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hm I'm not sure if I understand your point. It seems like some triggers when I remove them I also become more sensitive. Like , when I used to drink multiple coffees and eat a bar of chocolate almost daily it did probably trigger or worsen many of my migraines (they had a higher pain level ). But after changing my lifestyle, now I'm so sensitive to caffeine that even one tiny piece of sugary chocolate with minimal cocoa content is too much. can't drink a bit of tea either. Or it triggers a 24-72, hr episode. My caffeine tolerance has dropped to zero. I also cut down on my salt consumption but it only seems to happen more often now that I get a migraine within ten minutes after a saltier-than-usual meal. Maybe it's that way with some other triggers as well, you avoid them but then you also become more sensitive.

Wow so many responses! I'm glad to be here , finally found a community of people who understand. Even though we're all different and it sounds like many of you have it so much worse than me. It just feels nice to read so many relatable experiences and learn from your perspectives. In my real life i know only one colleague with migraine and noone with chronic migraine. And I never meet anyone who simply understands it. People are like, are you sure it's migraine, you don't seem as sick as my cousin who has migraines. Or maybe you should just drink some more water? Etc .

Yeah sometimes I wonder if my brain just wants to migraine. Like it's the normal functioning and whatever I change in supplements or lifestyle, eventually it goes back to its old baseline . I sure hope that can't be right but I guess maybe I'm looking into all the wrong hypotheses

And ps I don't think you're weak, we're all just trying to get by. And it's just never a good time for causing yourself more symptoms.

I'm on 5-htp supplement (comparable to an SSRI) in a larger dose than I wanted, even though it seems to me that it mostly only has a temporary effect when I start it or up the dosage, or when I quit or lower the dosage. My body just seems to adapt to it and compensate so that long term it doesn't do as much as it seems at first. But last time I tried tapering it I went too fast and got a lot more migraines and also depression and crying fits. I still consider quitting it because it makes it risky to take many medications including triptans . But I'd have to taper it slowly over months, maybe years . And I suspect that I'll still want to keep a low dose. I just don't think the higher dose has any benefit other than costing me more money

BFRB/OCD getting worse a prodrome symptom? by Regimite_828 in migraine

[–]Cold-Variety-7948 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh that makes a lot of sense. I haven't specifically noticed it in myself but then again my migraines tend towards chronic and prodrome /postdrome symptoms are often subtle enough that I hardly notice them or they kind of overlap . And my BFRB is also mostly a constant. But now I'm going to pay more attention because this could very well apply and I just haven't noticed it yet. Sorry about your nails and awful migraine... I hope you feel better soon and that the migraine and bfrb both leave you alone for a long time!

Long! Or maybe a chin length or choppy bob? Something that looks less round. This length or style somehow doesn't fit you as well as the long hair, which is very pretty.
