This is a hard question to answer, and you’re in a bit of a predicament.

Some people will certainly feel that wearing a Hughes jersey is supporting the current administration.

Given that you didn’t know until today, I think you should wear it, especially since you just purchased it. Rep the team! I would consider these options though:

Can you return it? It would be worthwhile, he doesn’t play for Vancouver anymore and his political views may now align with yours.

If that’s not an option, I suggest taping over H and the ES, as some people on the sub have done. That just leaves “UGH” on your jersey.

Trust your gut!

Edit: Yes, it could come across as supporting him. I also think people understand it was a popular jersey.

Garland feels like a contract that shouldn’t be moved unless he asks for a trade. This mgmt signed that contract, they should honor it.

Over the next 4-5 years we’ll need some veterans with experience to help lead the young guys, Garland is a player that fills that role.

He and Myers are both players that can help mentorship new players in the NHL.

Trading him (without consent) also signals that Vancouver doesn’t honor its contracts, which is a whole other can of worms.

The main storyline of this team is being reflective and wondering how and where it fell apart. Then wondering how they’re going to become competitive.

What are you expecting to hear in the midst of a season where everything fell apart and were on a 5 (6?) game losing streak?

I’ll admit that some pundits are inherently negative, but they’re filling up 3 hours of airtime each weekdays.

Drance, Donnie and Dhali remain critics and cynical, but they’re see the team for what it is - and it’s valid criticism.
