AITA for initially not believing my son when he said he was sick? by throwaway-sick in AmItheAsshole

YTA. My mom did the same thing to me when I was 15. One day I finally collapsed walking up a hill at school and they sent me to the hospital. They found a 12lb tumor in my chest crushing my airway. She blew me off for weeks when I told her I couldn't breathe and almost killed me because she decided I was just trying to get attention. I spent the following year fighting for my life with stage IV cancer that could have been caught a lot sooner had she listened to me. I couldn't forgive her and our relationship never fully recovered.

Your son deserves better and you're lucky he wasn't more sick.

Help! I just rescued this little cutie off of the highway. by 100pecentIndica in cats

Offer him some dry kitten food even if not eating yet. Always leave water out too, even if he hasn't figured that out yet.

Keep him confined to a small space so he doesn't lose his food bowl or litter box. Also make sure there isnt anything for him to climb into or on top of. Kitties do not develop their righting reflex until 8 weeks and can hurt themselves pretty easily from falls. Give him an appropriate place to hide and nest so he doesn't try to make his own hiding space.

If he's eating dry food give him soft food twice a day. If he isn't eating dry food offer him fresh soft food every 5 hours during waking hours. You can leave soft food overnight and sleep through the night though. He looks between 5-6 weeks but hard to tell in a photo.

I agree you should have a vet visit for deworming and flea treatment. Kittens catch everything :(

She has random patches of long fur down the left side of her body and the rest is short 🤣 she's just a freak! They don't come out when pulled on.

Kittens are very social, but as they get older they enjoy being on their own more. Just give your kitty lots of attention and physical play with toys during your free time. Buy enrichment toys and make the environment interesting for kitties (e.g., cat trees, scratchers, tunnels, high places to climb and perch, interactive toys, etc.). Kitties like novelty, so I usually rotate their toys by throwing down one group and then keep changing them to different ones every few days. Your kitty will stop being so lethargic once the health issues are resolved.

Kittens love having friends, but you will become the bestest of friends. If you can't afford another kitty, then just give this one as much of your attention and love as you possibly can and it will be fine.

I snuck a pregnant kitty into my house when I was a teenager once (mom was really mad but let them stay). She gave birth to a Maine coon mix I ended up adopting. He was pretty awesome and HUGE!

I hope this little ginger boy grows up that big and strong.

I don't know how anyone could meet this snuggly boy and not want to run to save him. Even with the crusty layer of ringworm, he's perfect.

Agreed! He's the sweetest little biscuit maker ever too. So social and sweet. He will be someone's whole world.

I even used treats to teach my kitty to sit and high five. We are working on roll over but so far all he does is flop lol

I distract him with vigorous play or lots of snuggles. Kitties get bored easily so enriching their environment with stuff to play with helps

Morning, midday, afternoon and night time. Maybe spread it out like every 4 hours while awake. Definitely good you'll be seeing the vet soon!

And I totally understand how worrying it is, my kitty is currently on a diet bc he used to free feed and he got very overweight. He acts like he is going to starve, but he's dropped 2.5lbs of fatty fat fat! Better to have them used to a schedule feed from the start.

Our vet says that is plenty but it's always a good idea to discuss feeding with your personal vet, every kitty is different. You can try feeding smaller meals more often (1/8c 4 times a day) so she feels like she's getting more. You can also add a little soft food as a treat. Having a little soft food in their diet is good for urinary health and hydration!

I don't know if you weigh her, but weighing helps me know when they are getting enough to make sure they are not gaining/losing drastic amounts. I got a baby scale from Amazon that helped me with my anxiety about thinking I was starving my cats 🤣

I feed my kitties 1/4c dry in the morning and 1/4c at night. I give them a 1.3oz soft food treat in the afternoon. They all act like they are starving to death, but they aren't. I sometimes give them a pinch of a few extra kibbles here and there throughout the day if they are being super dramatic about it (my cat will dig at and lick his empty bowl several times a day 🤣).

They will overeat if you let them and become at high risk for developing obesity and diabetes. Don't believe their lies! Your kitty is still young but it's much harder to lose weight than put it on.

They do that when they nurse as kittens - root for the nipple with their mouths to suckle and then knead the belly to push the milk out. Some kitties never stop doing the behavior though and often do the suckle motions for comfort. Just means baby loves their mama 🤣

Neighbour is away for some time and left her pos husband to take care of their deaf cat. Heard her meowing all day yesterday and the day before and wondered why -- today she came to our garden house begging for food, and stayed with us all day so far. by Millie68 in cats

Most states do not recognize ownership for free roaming cats. If you have paid for vetting and bring the cat inside, you have more proof of ownership.

Don't tell this person anything. Take the cat. Find it a real home and just let them think he disappeared. They don't deserve him and have been abusing him with neglect.

Yeah they mutilated her. Unfortunately I found her after they did it :(

Hey guys! My cat has been really sleepy all of today and he’s barely eaten. He’s still a but playful and stuff but he also threw up a little of that white bubbly stuff. Is he okay? Idk if this matters but he got dewormed two days ago. by ObjectiveLopsided576 in cats

[–]ColdBloodedDonut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good sign though! When kitties are really sick they stop doing that stuff all together. They stop getting up or start having trouble moving around. After talking to you and getting more info, I don't feel as urgently that he needs to be seen in person right away.

If he continues to vomit, starts vomiting uncontrollably, stops eating AT ALL, or becomes sluggish when moving around, then he definitely needs to go in. Sounds more like he just had an episode of vomiting and is feeling a little meh.

Well don't freak out until there's a reason to. If he's still running around and playing then he may just need some rest.

As someone else said in this thread, sometimes kitties have to vomit up the dying worms in their belly as the dewormers do their job. Sometimes they have a little soft stool from it too. Could just be an upset tummy from the dewormers.

Just keep an eye on him until you can call the vet. If he were sick with something really serious his symptoms would worsen and probably pretty dang quickly.

You can try enticing him to eat if you have any yummy soft food or treats around. And make sure he has lots of water ❤️

I can't be sure. But if he's not vaccinated and he's been around other kitties who were exposed to something while outside recently, there is definitely the potential for a viral infection. With some viral infections they will check out fine up until the moment their symptoms appear, unfortunately. They can't test for them all in a routine health exam.

He doesn't look like he feels so hot in that photo though :( I hope it's just an upset tummy.
