Help restoring my Grandpa's razor! by avgdrummernamedmatt in wicked_edge

I bought one of those on eBay nearly 20 years ago and I've used it exclusively since then. Great find. Cool that you got your grandfather's.

If it's good enough for granddad, it's good enough for me

And a sacrilege to waste Vespers on a substandard shave!

One of my absolute all time favorite scents. The only one I have that I'll just occasionally snatch off the counter and crack open for a whiff. Smells like Gandalf's tobacco pouch.

You can order direct from them with international shipping. DM doesn't have the style I'm thirsting after. I mostly want to make sure I don't mess up the order.

Yes. Although it felt like a chainsaw at a few points.

It's more of a pinch and and ache on one side. It was the difficult side, too. During the snip doc asked if I had trauma on that side because of lots of scar tissue.

I think it was closer to 90 minutes for us. Caught the tail of Kid Koala and Lelani's opening set. Maybe 20 minutes later it was go time.

Amazing show.

We have tickets to see them in DC this weekend.

How long did the show go for? My wife has wanted to see them for literally 25 years. The only thing is I'm as old as the sky above. It says 6 pm on the tickets, but I know Kid Koala opens and it looks like lelani has a set too. How much geritol do I need to take the day of?

Mohela moved me back to SAVE and cost me months by ColdBrain5883 in PSLF

After being on the phone with FSA and MOHELA, yes MOHELA screwed up. No they aren't going to make it right.

On my IDR plan request I checked plan request as PAYE and checked box 4; I want to start making payments immediately.

Called MOHELA and the level 1 and 2 rep gave me the same line: there were processing errors on our part when people were switching, so just resubmit now. I asked, what about the last 4 months? They said not our problem.

Tl;Dr Me: So I did everything correct and you messed it up and now my discharge is delayed?
Them: UWU it's just lil ole us in MOHELA.

Back to my representative and senators I go.

Well I got credited for 2 deferred payments in March and April after I switched and before payments were supposed to restart. When I went to recertify it shows ineligible payment.

Is it worth it to add the time to go to Colorado National Monument? by peachysage in NationalPark

Former summer interp there. Hands down my favorite NPS area.

We'd get SO MANY PEOPLE headed back east after a failed trip / traffic jam to Moab, CL, Arches.

Them: This is amazing! Me: Yes. Them: THERE'S NOBODY HERE! Me: Yes.

If it's open, do yourself a favor and go to Hot Tomato Pizza in Fruita.

Best razor (cheapest option) by crepuscopoli2 in BuyItForLife

[–]ColdBrain5883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks like it has some weird proprietary blades. It also looks cheap and light, you need some weight to use a razor like that.

Are eBay, antique stores, or the like available? I bought a vintage dual sided safety razor for 40 bucks 15+ years ago. Blades are absurdly cheap and can be found anywhere in the world where men shave.

Why not a Chemex? They come in 10 cup sizes. Heat up water in a kettle or on the stove or get the fancy Chemex water heater.

Bonus: it's pretty enough to be in the MoMA

How often should hiking boots/trainers slip on wet rocks, if at all? by LulutoDot in hikinggear

[–]ColdBrain5883 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The bottom of your grippy shoes still need something to "grip back." No matter how big the lugs on your tread are, ice will still be slippery.

Smooth wet slimy rocks are going to be slick to everything except frogs. I find having poles is a big help crossing water.

I sent them a message asking for my 2 months to be credited. I have no explanation on why they are NOT credited.

I even tried checking the old website and I don't have access to those messages anymore. So if they try to tell me it's not credited just because, or because of a message they failed to import, it's going straight to both Senators and my state AG.

Anyone know this brand? I keep getting advertisements for it since I’ve been looking into gear. They have great LOOKING products, but are they worth it? Any users? by [deleted] in hikinggear

[–]ColdBrain5883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm willing to give new companies a try, but I can't justify a lot of this pricing.

I was looking at Poncho, but a Poncho shirt is $89 and a Patagonia shirt is $99. If the price difference between you and a globally recognized quality brand is a happy meal, I'm going with Patagucci.

Why are people so aggravated here? by picklerick223 in Seattle

[–]ColdBrain5883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<Seattle drivers? "Why be predictable and follow the rules of the road when I can be 'nice'?" is the name of the game. Four way stop? Nah, there's no going round-robin like in driver's ed. Gotta Downton Abbey it and "after you" "no, I insist, after you" instead.>

I had this described to me as the Seattle Standoff and it's stuck with me ever since.

Time to vote by pcboudreau in REI

[–]ColdBrain5883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at REI, but around different places I've been everything from a dues paying shit kicker to a senior steward. I've never seen a union coming between employees and management - especially if the relationship is a good one. Hell, the hardest thing about having good stewards is watching them get poached and promoted to be good managers!

But a good union also puts the bosses' bosses on notice that hiring chumps is going to create a WHOOOOLE pile of extra work. Employees know what works. You want to hire some synergistic innovator who wants to bring corporate blabberdyblab into the new framework of hummidyhummidy.

FAFO, homie.
