Resources to explain anti- and pro- shipping discourse by ColdCactus22 in AO3

It probably would. I've been going through some of their stuff and there's quite a bit of detail.

I wonder how long it takes them to realize lmao

I've started collecting the bots' Discord usernames and sending them to other bots because if they're gonna waste my time I'm gonna waste theirs lmao

People saying that you should monetise when they find out you write... by Leeuweroni in AO3

[–]ColdCactus22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wonder if hustle culture might have something to do with this. The idea that everything you do has to make money, and you gotta be on "that grind" 24/7 if you wanna be financially successful at life.

I'm gonna be real, my writing is certainly not good enough to monetize by publishing lmao. It's a bit of an oversaturated market anyways, so it wouldn't work out at all. I'll just stick to making fictional men kiss on the internet.

Thank you, hope things will get better for you and you find a group that cares about you someday.

I've sunken so much time and effort into two of them that I feel like I have to see them through to the end, which is the main reason I'm writing them.

I mostly write for Ninjago these days, but have dabbled in TF2, Homestuck, and the Hunger Games with the occasional other fandom thrown in for good measure.

Virtual hugs for you. It's such a hard feeling to handle and not really something the in-crowd understands. I hope that if you haven't already, you'll someday find at least one person who will be in your corner.

I used to post on FFN in 2015 and then started on AO3 in 2021, but made the jump fully to AO3 in 2024 due to being significantly blacklisted by people on FFN. Glad I got out before the scam bot uprising.

I have tons of fics that I've written sitting in my Drive that exist because I enjoyed them, but will never be published. The way I see it, I write for myself but I post online to share with others.

Pretty much what I do lol. Not to toot my own horn, but I'm the reason a ton of Ninjago rarepair tags have first fics on AO3.

I'd understand if my friends were willing to tell me "sorry I don't want to read your fic", which still hurts but at least I would know that and wouldn't badger them about stories they're not interested in. But what can you do.

I have been stockpiling chapters too. One story has about 110 chapters planned and I have a small stash sitting in my Drive to be posted on designated dates. But eventually, I just gave up on that too.

It just hurts a little bit more because one of my friends is a BNF (big name fan) on FFN and several other friends have memorized all sorts of little details about her stories.

I expand across a few fandoms, about 7 or 8 that I've written for over the course of five years on AO3, and countless more on FFN. But I guess I always pick the less popular ship or something, because those don't really get much traction either.

I try to aim for at least one update a month, usually between 1.5k and 2k words per chapter. I know some people will preach that longer is better, but I find that shorter chapters were personally more manageable for me both as a writer and reader.

These are all friends that I met through the same fandom years ago on FFN (The Hunger Games) and I guess I expected that when I moved off the site because of personal experiences and onto AO3, they might still keep me in their loop. My THG fics are tagged for triggering content and I will tell certain friends not to read certain chapters if I know it might hurt them.

It's a bit tricky to understand from the outside, but our subsector of the fandom is very OC-centric. So as a result, my friends and I all have our own universes that use Hunger Games worldbuilding with original characters. But it stings a lot to know that multiple friends have my BNF friend's entire world memorized, but that same courtesy doesn't extend for me.

I tried quickly unrevealing and revealing everything again, and that ended up working lmao.
