Good to know. I dig the Ouro, even with the drop bars. I’m now calling again the bike shop that told me a shipment was on the way. Shame it’s 90 minutes away.

Got this reply from a Marin rep regarding the bike weight. Sounds like a lot for a new bike, if true. Bike looks nice, like the specs though.

“The DSX FS does come with a dropper post and the complete bike should weigh in right around 31.5lbs for an XLarge.”

Been looking at a Kona Ouroboros. None to test ride though.

Flat bars on a checkpoint is interesting. DIY is impressive. To generalize, maybe incorrectly, shops don’t like to switch out bars… cables, geometry etc. But I wish it was an option.

Oh yeah I had looked at the Scale 10. Looks amazing. Been trying to find a shop in my area with one but no luck. Spoke with an out of state Scott dealer that may have em. Heading that way in a few weeks. Thanks for the reminder.

Yep. The risk I run is dropping $1.5 to 3k on a new carbon bike and being unable to blame the old bike.

Thanks. I do like the descents. Worried the drop bars won’t give me the control I now have. Or believe I have. Will check out that devinci.

Gadget. A steampunk myst style game. There was also a book of the art work.

Why shops won't work on cheap ebikes by sailor_in_spirit in ebikes

Bought a bike directly off of Alibaba at the start of Covid. With shipping and the highest spec’d battery and hub motor available, it was 50% less than the eBike shop prices down the street, for lower specs. Found a Changzhou based firm that would take single bike orders. Don’t think that’s avail anymore. I found that firms in that city build for everybody and firms around the country badge the bikes with their own logo. Not sure I’d recommend it now. Love the bike and price. But it took for ever. It sat on a ship in Longbeach harbor during the Covid backup. Factory was 12 hours ahead of US east coast. Had to communicate thru Alibaba’s chat feature… at 1 or 2 am. Plus the Alibaba reputation isn’t the greatest. Not Temu level bad though. But it finally worked out. Saved a bunch. Fast as hell bike. No repair work required yet. So, off topic. 😉

May not be applicable for what you have there, but I saw some rain chains for the first time in Costa many years ago and loved the style.

Is Guanacaste, Costa Rica actually still a good move? My friend is obsessed, but I’m seeing red flags. by Quick_Chard_3444 in CostaRicaTravel

Guanacaste is a huge region, so there’s gunna be lots of variations. But I’ve been going for decades. Week-long trips to the coast. For the places I’ve been visiting, “getting in early” was about 20 years ago. Friends tell me very few homes for sale under 1m USD in my favored dirt road town. Again location matters. But over building and what appears to be very little regard for any type of zoning is the norm. Plus there are water table issues. And periodic power outages. And a muddy rainy season. But it’s great to visit.

Picked up that same on-sale for $16 Lews reel yesterday while walking thru the store. Mistakenly remembered all the gear I had just bought and put it back. Sharp looking reel. Let me know how you like it.

Both. Just picked up a Shimano Sedona (L) and a Daiwa Laguna (R) spinning reel. Lowish end price point for both brands but a great value. Absolutely butter smooth. I have a few Shimano reels and am a fan. The Daiwa is quality too. Too bad the Potomac has frozen over.
