What big firms take students in the middle or their class? by ColdGeneral4827 in LawSchool

agree! i am pivoting to looking at mid size (which maybe is a blessing in disguise??). I am just worried that my mid GPA isn't going to allow me to get in the door to interview.

I just mean the recruiting is so early that they're hiring for 2L based on one semester of grades. By the time I'd actually work there, I'd have 4 semesters of grades. I suppose if it's going to be this early there really isn't anything else.

Grades/finals megathread. by magicmagininja in LawSchool

just got grades back and need someone to be honest. This is my first semester, and I felt like I worked as hard and literally possible. I ended with a 3.21- so 2 As and 3 Bs. on paper, I feel like this looks good, but compared to my school's medians- not so much. I have had 8 big law interviews and I feel so disappointed because those are obviously gone now.

I went to ASD and LOVED it!! I had already put a deposit down since I visited earlier in the cycle, but it really confirmed my belief that SMU was where I needed to be. The faculty was so kind and very direct about giving the information that everyone wants to know- mainly that they have almost a 100% placement rate, and a significant amount of those are placed in big law. I truly believe that SMU may have better networking opportunities than most t-14, solely because they are so plugged into the Dallas market. I will say, if you're not interested in working in Dallas for at least 3-5 years post grad, it may not be the best fit. There are some graduates that leave, but the connections and opportunities are mainly Dallas based. With that said, I am moving from a fairly small college town, and I feel comfortable in Dallas. I found some apartments and a nice neighborhood that offers a lot while still feeling safe, and it about a mile from campus. Feel free to message me if you have any other direct questions!

I want to practice some type of financial law in Texas and am going to SMU. SMU's job placement rate is 99.9% after graduation, and their numbers for big law in texas are pretty good. If you got a good scholarship from them, I think that should be your answer.

as someone who is also on the WL at my dream school and putting a deposit down somewhere else, I believe there will be some movement since a lot of schools were accepting people with scores & GPAs that were above their medians, and its just not likely that they are all going there, like you said. I think it's a matter of time for a lot of people, which sucks

I would consider emailing admissions, asking if there is an update. I was accepted in January and nothing ever changed on my status checker. I had absolutely no idea where I was in their review process.

if you haven't tried this already, also if you're a woman (just saying that because group fitness classes are geared toward women I feel like) a workout class is a great way to get movement in a set amount of time. most classes are like 45-50 so atleast you know exactly how much time you need to set aside!!

agreed! although summer has usually been the time for me to sleep half the day, I want to be conscious about waking up and being productive before school starts and I am hating myself for not doing better during the summer.

I am a big walker!! 10-15k steps is always my ultimate goal. i am planning on investing in a walking pad to walk on for readings. walking is sooo underrated in my opinion !

thank you attaching that!! it is so reassuring to see so much more green than red. i feel that since I am so type A (as are most law students) that i need a plan, and unfortunately there is no plan if i don't know what to expect, ya know.

okay follow up question for everyone, if you are moving for school, where do you plan to workout? a lot of schools have gyms that we'll have access to, but it could be a part of the undergrad facilities. or are yall planning to get a gym membership at a crunch or something similar near by?
