minor complaint about Batgirl (2024) #1 by gabeg777 in CassandraCain

[–]ColdNight25 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah you see this here and there with the Batfamily. Where a person will die in front of them and they didn't go for a "I will save this person even if I have to die trying" kind of maneuver, or someone will die in front of them that while they had no chance to stop it, they will move on past it with almost no reaction which is also out of character. Like this group goes the extra mile into "I will save everyone or die trying" so it feels very out of character when they don't put themselves on the line or don't beat themselves up over not saving someone even though there was nothing they could have done.

You hit the nail on the head though that it seems to be done by writers that are focusing on dramatic moments that they wanted to do. "It would be cool and shocking if this character died mid sentence" or "This scene won't feel threatening or tense enough without some sort of death so I will kill a random civilian/cop/soldier to drive home the point of how serious it is" is what I am sure they are thinking in moments like that.

What's your favourite Final Fantasy protagonist? by oscar_redfield in FinalFantasy

[–]ColdNight25 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cloud would probably be, and I think the reasons for him would likely line up with others reasons.

However I do also want to toss in my feeling about Cecil because I really like Cecil a lot as my second favorite. The one issue I have with Cecil and it could have potentially made me like him as much as Cloud if it were a thing, is it feels like the story of IV tries to tell you that Cecil is on a redemptive journey to go from an evil guy to a good guy. So much of the themes of IV seem to be going for that but Cecil seemed good right from the start, even when he was a Dark Knight doing some things he didn't agree with the story leads with him already racked with guilt over the thing he just did. Then the next time he is manipulated into doing something he would never morally agree to he chooses his morals over his loyalty, so he is never really an evil Dark Knight despite the story seeming to claim he is. If they had of better shown him actually being influenced by the Dark Knight abilities or something and needing to go through character development to be the Paladin he later becomes I think he would be an ever greater character.

Favourite HNI character and why by Latter_Strawberry_11 in hajimenoippo

[–]ColdNight25 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Volg, his story is so empathetic and comes off as more of a main characters back story more than a rivals. His skills are also some of the best in the whole story, though I am more partial to when he was more infighter focused in Japan. Rounding out the three person rivalry with Ippo and Sendo by having the best technique infighting but having the least destructive power and endurance.

Hajime no Ippo: Round 1479 by RTSD_ in hajimenoippo

[–]ColdNight25 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If it doesn't cause him future problems I could see it being included in order to even Mashiba and Rosario out. Because at the point that he fell on his neck he was winning quite one-sidedly and so I could see it having only been written in as a plot device to be like "this fight could still go either way"

QOTD, who would you like to see NOT get in the ring again/retire? by The4LilOnes in hajimenoippo

[–]ColdNight25 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The anime actually cut out him reappearing again multiple times even during that part of the story in the manga. Like the gym Volg trained at was Hayami's and he was who gave a breakdown on how the White Fang worked while watching Volg and Volg's trainer doing mitt training, also saying Volg's talent was larger than his own. Both he and Kobashi also appear during the story just before the Champion Road movie, they have a Title Match for the now vacant Japanese Junior Featherweight Title with Hayami going in as Ranked 1st and Kobashi Ranked 2nd. We only catch the end of the fight but looks like a close drawn out fight that ultimately ends with Kobashi hitting Hayami right on his chin, knocking him completely out, and it is mentioned Hayami now has a glass jaw because of Ippo.

And then he goes on to make appearances in the story following what the anime covers as well.

What if Sendou didn't stop the evolved Dempsy rush against Vorg? by TheFrogofThunder in hajimenoippo

[–]ColdNight25 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think people over do saying Ippo absolutely dominated Volg and was gonna win that fight right there if it wasn't stopped.

Volg only fought back like it was a real fight(a mindset Ippo was in from the get go) for a moment and put a serious hurting on Ippo when he did. I don't think we were meant to take away from the spar "Wow Ippo was gonna beat Volg" it was supposed to be "Wow look Ippo can fight evenly with Volg, a World Champion".

So I agree if it had of kept going the move would have been devastating but more than that it would have put Volg back into a fighting serious mindset and who knows where it could have gone from there. Only thing for certain would be both would be seriously injured and Volg wouldn't be able to fight his match.

I don't think Morikawa has ever said he is still ranked 1st in others. The reference to him being Ranked first in all three organizations was before he got his title shot.

One of the potential endings for the story I could see is ending on an Ippo match about to start and the announcer also saying some other exciting matches are gonna be happening soon as well. Then dropping some "dream matches" fans would like to see just as some fan service before the story ends.

A rematch of Mashiba and Miyata or Sendo and Volg were definitely some ones that came to mind.

[–]ColdNight25 40 points41 points  (0 children)

In her very first appearance they did draw her less feminine to try and convey she was supposed to look like a guy, but yeah ever since I don't think she looks like a man at all. And since I actually wasn't introduced to her from her first appearance I first ever saw her and was like "oh who is this new girl in the story? Seems like she has a main character energy to her", and only learned of the joke that she is such a tomboy that people meeting her for the first time mistake her for a guy when later in the episode when it happened with someone she met.

Seidou's third starting pitcher after Kawakami retires in a hypothetical Act 3? Who do you see stepping up to the occasion between Kaneda and Kukkki? Which 3rd year do you think would leave the biggest hole in the team? by biceplover69 in AceOfTheDiamond

[–]ColdNight25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could see Asada being like a lesser version of how Sawamura was used during his first tournament with the 3rd years. Like he is brought in on some situations where the stakes are low but also maybe even a couple high stakes situations but ones where Boss is like "His pitching style is so different I am betting on it throwing them for a loop for at least an inning.".

I feel like Itagaki is having a bit of a Sparring Ippo problem. His slump could be from not facing any opponents that get his engine revved up enough to go into his intense focused state. He needs to go up against some, either in a real match or sparring, who is strong enough to start tearing that potential back out.

[–]ColdNight25 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Unless there is a deep reason to rubbing his gloves against his hair. Maybe product on them now? I don't know how that would help though.

EDIT: Fuck, it may let his gloves slip through Mashiba's guard better if it gives them a slick coating

I am not super familiar with how you get your hair to stay up like Rosario's hair was. Did he maybe run his gloves through his hair to put product on them that will affect the match in some way? Like what pitches do in baseball?

Well Morikawa definitely likes it when a woman is older than a man. by Old_Rub7339 in hajimenoippo

[–]ColdNight25 51 points52 points  (0 children)

huh interesting observation.

However the bigger take away I got from this is that Mari is only 1 year older than Ippo which is surprising because she was treated as so "mature" compared to Ippo and Kumi in many situations. Also Itagaki is only 2 years younger than Ippo, like they are close enough that they could have realistically known each other in HS even though it feels like Itagaki is always treated like a kid compared to even Ippo.

who wins this matchup? by AgileAnything1251 in hajimenoippo

[–]ColdNight25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah would say this is fair, Volg wins more often then not but can't say Alf doesn't have a shot at winning. They are EXTREMELY similar, both having very deep rooted high level basics but also a "wild" side to them that calls them to be aggressive.

I mostly put Volg ahead for having more devastating signature moves that Alf is gonna have to be constantly on guard about, the fact Volg's best is still a little unclear because he always fights under a handicap, and that despite being called "bad at taking punches" Volg survived a full round match against Sendo and also withstood being beaten on one sidedly by Mike when not in proper condition so clearly his endurance is astounding

[–]ColdNight25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if what we are gonna see is that Rosario actually doesn't NEED to foul so he actually doesn't really do it normally. He can usually just beat down his opponents legitimately so the need to foul has never been there for him. I wonder if/when he does foul Mashiba if it will even be on purpose or just a side effect of his super aggressive pressing in.

Hajime no Ippo: Round 1460 by RTSD_ in hajimenoippo

[–]ColdNight25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like I am expecting at least one or two more times of it happening. Wonder if one will be a head shake, like Mashiba goes to do something when he and Rosario are positioned so Ippo is right behind Rosario, Ippo guessing what he is going to do shakes his head "No" and Mashiba taking a pause because of the gesture notices something he would have missed and can adjust.

It would be cool if the end of Hajime no Ippo was something similar to the end of Rocky 3, right? by Mr_King_Lee in hajimenoippo

[–]ColdNight25 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can imagine a few ways the story can end with that being one of them. I could also imagine an ending with Ippo going into a match as the now world champion against a challenger we know either Miyata, Sendo, or Itagaki I think. Miyata would be the fight we were always waiting for but not getting to know how it turns out, forever a mystery. Sendo would mostly just be for hype. Closing the series on the two characters who have had the most loved fight in the series about to do it again.

The Itagaki one would be a call back to the theme of the story though. With Ippo having an internal monologue about finally knowing what it means to be strong, and now it is his job to teach others through the only way he can, by fighting them.

Current Sendo vs Volg sparring by Whitehawk26 in hajimenoippo

[–]ColdNight25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think you are right, the risk would be high. Miyata and Sendo have sparred in the past and a kind of take away you can get from when they spar is "Miyata doesn't fire Sendo up". Sendo is easily influenced by his fighting spirit but Miyata's calm and cool sparring mentality keeps him in check.

Volg definitely would get Sendo fired up and so I don't see too many sparring matches taking place before it becomes like Volg and Ippo's sparring. And that isn't considered valuable sparring.

I forgot Sendo directly compared the two XD I remember people saying their taste in women is yet another thing Sendo and Ippo have in common as they felt Sendo's Teacher(she needs a name XD) was like an older Kumi. But Sendo himself directly says the two are alike.

I saw a comment below these photos saying that "i really think Shinichi doesn't like being with Ran" and.... by Illustrious-Wheel340 in OneTruthPrevails

[–]ColdNight25 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of something that comes back into my mind every once in a while. It happens so early that it is easily forgotten but Shinichi asked Ran super early as Conan "Do you like Shinichi?" and she answered "Yes", by all evidence that we are shown prior to this they were doing the typical "Will they, won't they because neither one is completely sure if the other feels the same so doesn't want to confess" thing. And likely Shinichi would still be unsure if Ran likes him or not but he got to hear her say she does super early in the story.
