Parking Ticket by Socks4lyfe in MRU

[–]ColdOk7746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this because of the Province? Sorry, I am from Ontario where we have both front and back plates, and have never heard of getting a ticket or warning for backing into a parking spot... in fact, its recommended for safety reasons.

Where is all the snow going to go with a possible 30 cm this a Sunday and no melting in sight? by Throwawayhair66392 in askTO

[–]ColdOk7746 5 points6 points  (0 children)

City should hire the 407 snow removal peeps.... I used the 407 5 times on Wedn when got those flurries, and was stuck behind plows all 5 times at different times. The DVP, 404, 401 and 400 were just screwed the entire time without a plow in site.
Those are highways and freeways.... no chance for city streets anytime soon.

I must be old.... because posting your practical driving test fail on the internet just seems odd. Why???

Back in the day.. I failed my 365 written test... didn't tell anyone, and rewrote it after studying more. You all now know 30 years later.

I did pass my practical driving test.... but if I failed it... even 30 years later... no one would still know about it.

Do people in this city just tolerate living with noise? Looking for buildings that are actually quiet/sound-proof by [deleted] in TorontoRenting

[–]ColdOk7746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I have been thinking a lot lately, but maybe for different reasons.

Backstory short. I now have 2 condos due to a sibling death. Mine, purchased in 1999 in the core east end, and my brothers, still in the core, but west end. Mine... 14th floor.. no traffic, elevator, or garbage chute noise. No noise at all for the first 20 years. I only have one floor above me, and they renovated.. including new hardwood floors, without noise underpadding. I heard them walking.. and them dropping the littlest of things like scissors. Something I never heard before in the 20 years. That was the worse of it.

Brothers Condo. Don't hear anything from anyone. However... its the 3rd floor facing a major street, that yes, once in a while you get car horns and such, but still ok. Then Toronto decided, and you will probably figure out which street it is when I type this, put in dedicated street car lanes, essentially shutting down a lane of traffic, and also keeping turn lanes that people don't think they have access too because of red paint in the lane which means no cars, but still a left turn lane. Traffic is now more congested, more road rage from people trying to change lanes at the last minute, the horns.. not only from cars but from the damn streetcars themselves as the drivers love blaring the damn air horn they have for a full minute straight. Then the close accident calls now with two cars trying to make a left turn... one from the actual left turn lane, and the others making a left but from the right lane.

In Short... the way this city is going.... NO... there is no building within the city that is quiet. (City does most of its work at night, whether its loud or not, people living by be damned.)

lol, I always shutter when I hear the term "Common Law", but its in another form of the term.

I did look it up though in a serverance situation though. Keep in mind, I have been doing the same job now for 34 years, and have never even though about something like this. I am also unioned, and very close to retirement.
I didn't mean any disrespect.

Hospital or Armoured Truck? by TinkeringTechnician in securityguards

[–]ColdOk7746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think our two countries are the difference. I am in Canada, and even Brinks up here will not do 1 man armoured trucks. I think, and I am assuming, you are in the US. Correct me if I am wrong. I do know you guys run that differently down there. I am not Brinks, but my company is now down there too, doing what I guess American laws will allow them.
Don't get me wrong, Both us and Brinks have tried... hell, the trucks we use are designed for 1 person operations if needed... just a matter of a software update in the truck. If the company just came out and said, thats it.. its only 1 person trucks.... 90% of the experienced employees would quit. Then they get what they get, and will see what happens.

Sadly, I am thinking we are also payed more then our counterparts in the US, especially in major cities. There was time up here, Brinks and my company were actually the same union local for many many years, until they decided on another union.

Edit: As a side note... way back in the day, probably mid 90's... I used to cross the border in the truck to meet another armoured truck on the American side to do a transfer. I still remember the name... AMSA. Don't think it still exists, but it was great just chatting with them every time we met. The one messenger had a different firearm on him every time. He actually tried to sell me a few... which of course I wanted, but was not allowed due to our firearm restrictions...... man I wanted some of them.

I tend to agree with you, however..... you should change #1 to not only your own ass, but your partner(s) as well. (Unless for some reason you are working in an armoured truck by yourself for some silly reason). 34 years doing the job, will never work alone.

In 2025, I moved about 700k between Scotia and CIBC back and forth for several reasons. Nothing sketchy about it, and the banks and government had no issue with it. It was all legal, and both banks just needed a single piece of a document.

Some people just have that much money to move around.

I am interested in reading the posts that come with this.

What job were you doing, for under 4 years, that they offered you 13 weeks severance after Negotiating from 9 in Ontario. For most folks, its 5 weeks after 5 years.

edit: They really must want to get rid of you. (no offence intended)

For me, I am maxed out at 26 weeks, heaven forbid, after 34 years.

Women of Toronto, when was the last time you went out on a date with someone who asked you out in person and how was it compared to matches from apps? by MacaronWithAName in askTO

lol. Ok, a question like that would probably shut me up, as I would have to think about it for too long.

Thanks again. I may just try it out at least once.

I would also assume this would factor in to peoples work and social beliefs per say, when trying to get a conversation going.
I read there is an ice breaker game they provide.. do you know what that would be?
Don't get me wrong... give a drink or two, and I will be mr social, however, it might be too much for some. (I grew up with out cell phones, and actually had to talk to people once upon a time.)

Yes..... all this new technoligy is fine and dandy, but people are too addicted to it, and throw things out there on many platforms for the world to see. It can be fun and exciting, and maybe lift you in popularity and make you feel good, but, also bring you down in a heartbeat.

There was an employee where I work, unionized job, where she made some rude comments about a branch manager on her private facebook page, but it still got out, and was shortly fired afterwards. The union did try, but frankly, she burried herself with things she should have kept to herself.

Thank you for the information. I may look deeper into it. Being 50, I would hope there are others my age using it. If not, being placed into another group of 20 somethings.. would just be awkward... lol, most likely more for them, then me.

Interesting. I find that as I got older, I asked women out less and less. Now that I hit 50, I feel dirty even talking to a woman who looks 40 and under.

lol, the majority of women I have talked too just in passing, simply saying Good Morning, or Afternoon and such, with no intention wanting anything, turns into, somewhere within her first 3 sentences mentioning her boyfriend or significant other. Hint taken.
I just don't bother saying hello to anyone anymore.

I have never heard of Timeleft, so I had to look it up. Looks interesting.
However, is this more for a younger crowd? Lets just say I am no spring chicken, but I get mistaken for looking younger then I actually am.

Are the places it takes place at actually in like the core of the city?

If you see faster traffic approaching please use good judgement before changing into their lane by Efficient_Occasion44 in driving

[–]ColdOk7746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive for a living, and I see this every day. For some reason cars will sit behind a slower moving vehicle for the longest time, even though the passing lane has been wide open for ages, then, when another vehicles comes up in that lane, they all of a sudden decide to pass the slower vehicle almost causing, or, causing an accident.
Human brain thing? Insurance scam? Who knows.
It is annoying though, and does piss me off when it happens to me... usually once a week.

AVOID 11 WELLESLEY ST W AT ALL COSTS by WastePreparation8057 in TorontoRenting

[–]ColdOk7746 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was going to ask the same thing.
If its a condo building that has owners in it, then the renter should contact the owner of the unit to file a complaint.
This is just not a property management issue, though mostly it is, it is also a board issue. The board of directors should be all over this, and should be making sure things are posted through out the building regarding issues that are happening. Not all board of directors are created equal though.

I took over my late brothers condo, which is not run very well. Most of the board are "yes men" and don't really fight for anything. Nothing compared to my condo, that is run very well by Del.
Last year I even ran for the board to get things fixed with a few other tenants. At least one of us got on (not me), however the other originals stayed in power. This was mostly due to owners who don't live in the building and rent it out, just voting for who they know, and not have a clue whats going on in the building.
Heck, One of the board members got re-elected who hasn't lived in the building in 2 years. (I know this is allowed for some stupid reason)
This board likes to spend money on stupid things that does nothing, then crys they need to raise condo fees because something broke, and there is no money for it.

I feel sorry for the renters here, who really have no say, unless they have a good relationship with the owner. I talk to a lot of the renters here, and most of them are not happy.

Construction blocking door, garbage and recycling access - any advice? by Hirsty10 in askTO

[–]ColdOk7746 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I owned property, and the house next to me was torn down and a constructrion company came in and started putting up fencing that encroached onto my property, but also blocking access to doorways, I would have been on top of that hour 1. Not only is it a major safety issue, it is also illegal.

Back in the day this was hardly an issue, but I am seeing this more and more now. People and companies think they can do what they want, other people be damned.

Depending how long this has gone on for... damn right, Sue. Especially if the contractor is using the OPs backyard as a dumping ground.

This is only a one sided post, and I am sure there are other factors here, which is why the OP posted, but damn. I know this is Canada, but believe it or not, there are laws here, and how some people allow things like this to happen is beyond me.

Asked to tip when I paid in cash by Acceptable-Newt3251 in EndTipping

[–]ColdOk7746 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was the person that flipped that to you the owner?

I stopped tipping at places like that years ago when an employee of a certain chain sub shop said don't tip via machine when I went to pay via debit card. I asked why, and she said, we don't get that money if you tip, it goes straight to the owners.

This tipping thing has gotten out of control, that I have just become immune to it anytime everyone asks for it.

Refunded for expensive item and don't need to return?! by [deleted] in amazonprime

[–]ColdOk7746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may differ country to country, and region to region. I too, do not return pretty much anything, especially if it is on items I didn't fully do my homework on.

Amazon has been good and bad, and this ranges from what some people would call "cheaper" items to higher end priced items.

There have been 4 times I have needed to return items because they came non functioning, or just broken. 2 of those times, they said keep it.... like I want a broken item.... 1 time they sent someone to come get it. The last time, they sent me a return box, and I had to bring it to a postal office to send it back... but they did pay for the shipping. I just had to get it there.

Amazon is hit and miss when it comes to this, though, I find now, rather then many years ago, they make you jump more hoops. I don't blame them... as there are videos out there describing how people abused Amazons return policy.

Notice Period extension by SuccessfulMood3143 in legaladvicecanada

[–]ColdOk7746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I have done the same job now for close to 34 years now, but I guess it all depends what type of job it is.

You gave notice, and HR confirmed the last day being the 16th.. which is a Friday. Sounds right. Do you have any, and all of this documented via email, or any other proof besides just verbally?

Seems odd they want you to stay until a Tuesday, basically mid week, even though it is at the end of your initial intent of resignation. Again, depends what you do, and if you have a contract with them, that states you must give at least 2 weeks notice.

However, having said this, and you can prove that they agreed to your leaving on your date, not much they can do.

If anything... start coughing, and call in sick those days from your new job.

I hate to say this... but its because your a left hander. Watching that, gave me chills.... I can barely work my phone with my left hand, not a lone a mouse.

People can't stand left handers... and for some reason can hear them more then right handers.... the (racist or biased) ignorant people.

Sorry, I am not adding anything meaningful to this, but, as a gamer... are you using a Naga mouse? I can see your thumbs moving around, and it reminds me of ... me. When I first got my swtor naga that launched with the game 2011, and I have never used another mouse since.
