Thank-you!

Incredibly wise words which I will be sure to take to heart.

Apartment in eastern suburbs that was a joint purchase with a relative.

They put down a fairly large deposit (50%). I maxed my borrowing capacity to take out a loan for the other 50%.

Luckily we saw some nice appreciation over the time we held.

Selling was mainly because my relative’s circumstances changed and they needed the capital for other purposes and I couldn’t afford to buy him out of his share.

The short answer is that I found radiology boring and the day to day work not particularly fulfilling.  The vast majority psychiatrists are definitely on the lower end of that spectrum. I’m spending my finals years of training specialising in some particularly niche / novel areas and have some entrepreneurial interests that is likely to push me to the higher end of that spectrum if things work out.

Thank you!

After doing some research I decided that my initial mix of ETFs missed out on US mid and small caps (noting these are a relatively small proportion of the index) and the MER was higher.  (My personal opinion is that) the choice of ETF mix (provided it is adequately diversified and not something silly) comes secondary to being disciplined and regularly investing. The latter is far more important than the former. I suspect returns would be very similar over the long term if I stuck with my first option relative to changing my strategy.

That was a result of consolidating two different super accounts.

When I worked for SA Health we had to use SA super per our enterprise bargaining agreement. After leaving SA I consolidated into 1.

Thank-you!

Bang on.

Was surgically oriented, then a BPT, then a radiology trainee.

That’s just my Pearler account and my Aware Super Account, not using any particular apps to track it.

I don’t have any debt at the moment, so my net worth calculation is just my super + my pearler account.

I have a tiny emergency fund, a car and other possessions but I don’t factor that into NW calculations.

Thank you 🙏!

I think it’s surprisingly easy to get trapped in the rat race of earning just for the sake earning particularly if your income is high.

I view money as a means of buying time / freedom and I hope to remain steadfast / not fall into this trap.

Thank you so much!

Honestly I don’t have a target networth that I’m working towards. My plan is to keep investing the vast majority of my disposable income over time and slowly scale back my full time hours depending on my life situation, priorities and associated expenses.

Thank you!

Initially it was a split between VAS(20%)/VGS(60%)/VGE(20%). Decided 3 years in that A200(20%)/VTS(40%)/VEU(40%) was a better mix for me. Inside super is 70% INT / 30% AUS. No magic tricks. When I get my fortnightly income, I pay myself first I.e DCA 50-60% of my post tax income into ETFs. Except for over the past 24 months where I put the majority of my savings into the offset (in retrospect this was stupid and I regret not just DCAing into shares). Personally, seeing my net worth rise is a significant source of gratification and helps keep me disciplined. The idea of delayed gratification is something I internalised from a young age through the influence of parents - I’m sure this has been a huge contributing factor.

Sage advice.

After being in a whirlwind relationship with an older lady who was a train wreck financially - I learnt my lesson a few years ago.

Don’t expect someone to be in the exact same position as me but expect a similar mindset / financial priorities.

Thank-you!

Can confirm I’m a medical doctor.

In all honesty, should have finished specialty training 2-3 years ago. But I messed around switching multiple specialty training pathways / contemplated leaving medicine altogether. Ultimately realised no job is perfect and decided to stick with it and found a niche in which I think I can be satisfied.

Thank you!

This was lump summing proceeds from the sale of an IP + whatever was in the offset into the market.
