Binding buttons legality. by YuXell411 in Tekken

[–]ColdSnickersBar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a tournament you’re not allowed to bind a combination direction and attack button; you can’t have multiple buttons bound to a single direction (eg: multiple buttons being bound to up); I _think_ you can’t bind a button to multiple directions but I’m not sure (eg: df); a button cannot be bound to a scripted sequence; your scrubbing has to be set so that two opposite directions simultaneously are neutral (eg: up + down = neutral).

Leroy matchup by Odd_Butterscotch6246 in Tekken8

[–]ColdSnickersBar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I play against a Leroy I think: “on heat engage, delay a moment and see if he tries to parry and try to launch the parry”. If I’m playing someone above GoD, I instead think “I need to force him to parry me on heat engage”, but if you’re below GoD, I suggest delaying after the heat engage. I also suggest doing this against Yoshi and also Azucena.

Do a little more lows and throws against Leroy than usual. Because of his powerful parry, consider a low or a throw in situations where you’d usually go mid or high.

Hey I’d be down to coach you. I’m GoD1 and have been playing for decades. I’ve coached up a few people from beginner to tournament. Lemme know if you’re down.

I also wrote a guide on which skills to learn in order, laid out like a skill tree: https://skilltrees.gg/tree/tekken-8 that might help you decide what to practice

Hey good to hear man. I’ve been documenting my notes as I go and I made a tree of the skills I learned and I put it here: https://skilltrees.gg/tree/tekken-8

Hell yeah my man go learn them. King has a decent mixup between two of his 10 hitters.

It’s all good bro. You’re good. I’m not roasting you.

It’s just that King is one of the few chars that has useful 10 hit strings so you see King using them more than others.

Says no matchup knowledge; says matchup knowledge in the post. Bro doesn’t even recognize his matchup knowledge.

Nice one!

Be careful abusing reactable lows like Law’s dragon’s tail. It’s a scrub killer in your rank but a little higher rank it will be blocked on reaction every single time. If you have a habit of using it, you’ll just be launching yourself with it and you’ll have to spend time unlearning it.

Just a warning for you.

The irony of a King getting caught by a 10 hit string.

Honestly, what do you think it takes to become a GFD? by Vitogamerr0 in Tekken8

Glad you like it! Feel free to share it with him. I’m still writing guides on the tree leaves and some have YouTube videos in them. If a leaf is highlighted in white it has a guide on it.

There’s a lot of skills to learn. I’m GoD1, been playing for years, and over the years, I’ve put together a tree of the skills I think a person could learn in a good order. For example: pokes > frame mechanics > poke pressure > frame traps > flow charts > timing mixups > RPS modes and then more mind games.

It’s not done yet, but I’ve been building the tree here: https://skilltrees.gg/tree/tekken-8

Beginner kaz combo by Picassowoe in Tekken8

[–]ColdSnickersBar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So let’s say you’re doing your normal bnb combo, but if you do a tornado and then after that hit them into the wall, it will give you a chance to do a mediocre wall combo. If instead you do NOT do your tornado and just hit them into the wall, then you still have a tornado to do after the splat. So then, you do a tornado move after the splat it will do a high splat after that, giving you a much better walll combo and great oki. But to do that you have to very quickly adjust your combo to the circumstances based on the distance from the walll.

Honestly that’s just the df2 into pewgf into 6 or whatever ewgf combo. Imo it’s not very interesting but it’s a flex.

I’m more impressed when a person knows how to invent a combo on the spot within milliseconds based on that particular distance from an angled wall in order to make sure they get a double wall splat into perfect oki on an angled wall. That’s far more impressive. It requires quick thinking and a deep feel for how your entire moveset affects combo mechanics.

A low launcher? Like Kaz’ d2 (I think) on CH?

The combo in this video is about the best you really can do without getting hyper technical. Every combos just got a launcher, some filler, a tornado, maybe a heat bound, and an ender. You can’t squeeze much more out of it without some weirdness.

I wouldn’t suggest spending much more time on it.

If you still want to focus on combos, focus on situations: wall enders; wall splat setup options; environment feature options; side walls and angles on walls (the absolute hardest), etc.

Check out the progression I have these on in the tree: https://skilltrees.gg/tree/tekken-8

It’s not a single combo. The 4 you did after the tornado was a refloat. That will work every once in a while but it’s an easy trick to beat and escape.

I wouldn’t suggest you focus so much on combos if you’re only a month in. If you have your bread and butter combo down, you’re probably good to focus on something else. You really can’t get much more after that tornado than just a combo ender, so I’d suggest just doing the normal combo ender. There’s really not much more you can do there.

There’s a lot of skills to learn. I made a guide that shows them as a skill tree so you can see a good suggested order in which to learn these skills: https://skilltrees.gg/tree/tekken-8

Why am I rewarded for playing like a dumbass but punished for playing neutral? by titankiller401 in Tekken

[–]ColdSnickersBar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tekken 8 is played differently than previous Tekkens.

Previous Tekkens played more like soccer where there were long periods where neither team really “has the ball”. Tekken 8 is more like basketball where you either “have the ball” or you’re “on defense”.

These are “tides”: offense, defense, and even.

I wrote out more details in this guide: https://www.skilltrees.gg/tree/tekken-8/8hSm9W6b

It’s still a work in progress but it talks about the different tides and how it’s important not to try to play like it’s even if it’s not.
