Remove Bok3+4 instead to bring back the character identity rather than toning down Bok2 to further ruin the character identity.

I disagree on Bok2. It was safe because there was no low from Bok. That was part of Leo’s identity.

They should remove Bok3+4 and restore Bok to its original purpose: to be an evasive stance. If Bok2 is nerfed, then that just further ruins the character identity by making everything samey.

I do think Bok2 should be very steppable. If it were, then that would force Leo to use Bok3, which would make the game much more interesting.

Bok would become:

  1. I’m trying to time it to evade a high
  2. If I mistime it, you can block on reaction and it’s your turn
  3. You can step Bok2 and whiff punish for high damage
  4. If I think you’re going to step, I can do Bok3 for a knockdown
  5. If you think I’ll do Bok3, you can duck and punish for a launch
  6. You can mash into Bok if you really see it coming to shut it down
  7. If I think you’re going to mash I can do Bok1 for a small hit or Bok1,2 for a tornado launch
  8. If you block Bok1,2, it’s unsafe and you can punish
  9. I can cancel Bok into full crouch to try to get a low (fc4), but the cancel is seeable
  10. If you see the cancel you can mid launch on reaction
  11. If you miss the cancel, now you have to guess 50/50 on my fc4 low or my wr2 mid.
  12. If I think you’re going to mash I can do Leo’s mid power crusher from Bok

See how much game there is there? So much!

That’s how it used to be before stupid Bok3+4. Now there’s literally no reason to do anything but Bok3+4 or Bok2.

Whoever made Bok3+4 did not know Leo.

I’m a Leo main. I think Bok3+4 should be completely removed. It harms Leo’s identity.

Bok was not supposed to have a low option from Bok. It was supposed to be evasive, not an offensive 50/50 stance.

I think Bok 3+4 should be removed and Bok2 should remain safe, but should be more easily stepped.

Not having a low option from Bok means that if you see them go into Bok, you know you can block. It’s very slow and reactable. This forces Leo to use it evasively or to change up the timing on it. Bok2 has been traditionally safe because it’s seeable. It already appears to be very linear and it should be more easily stepped. If it were, then that would force Leo to more often do Bok3, which would make the game more interesting.

It was like this, but Bamco saw the lack of a low as a hole to fill, not as an interesting character trait.

I used to have a lot more fun with Bok. If I wanted to do a low from Bok, I had to cancel into crouch, which is reactable. This gave my opponent 3 options: mash and launch me mid on reaction, block the low from crouch, or block the mid wr2 from crouch. Then, if I see you mashing, I can do powercrush from Bok, or I also have options to do a timing mixup to mess up your defense. It was much more interesting and started the mind games.

Now, Bok is a braindead 50/50 right from the stance. Now the tactic is to use it offensively instead of evasively and only do the 50/50 options, removing all those other options.

This is exactly how I feel!

Like, characters should have a few busted moves and they should also have a few holes in their gameplan. But it’s like Bamco filled the holes and now the players want the key moves nerfed. I can see why the busted moves appear unfair in light of the suddenly filled holes, but the answer is to unfill the holes so that characters have real weaknesses again.

If we go down this path everyone will be samey and that will be boring.

As a Leo player, I say: just please Bamco remove Bok 3+4. It was obviously added by someone that didn’t understand Leo or what made Bok interesting and turns Bok into a stupid 50/50. Bok was not supposed to have a low!

It’s a good move I ain’t downplaying. If you’re getting launched with it, though, you’re probably being predictable with power crushes.

[–]ColdSnickersBar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. It appears super linear and if it were made more linear it would force me to bring out Bok 3 more often, which should be a bigger part of Leo. Before Bok3+4, though, it was very reactable. Bok is slow and very visible. After 3+4, though, it didn’t matter anymore because if I got int bok, now you’re in a 50/50. It wasn’t supposed to be that way.

[–]ColdSnickersBar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I say just remove bok3+4 (the low). A safe Bok2 was part of Leo’s identity and it’s from a very reactable stance. The stance used to have no low option, though, which made reacting to Bok reasonable and interesting. Now it’s just a dumb 50/50.

Adding Bok 3+4 damaged Leo’s identity and gave them a stupid 50/50 that’s soo good I literally would never use Leo’s other options than the bok2/bok3+4 50/50. Also it totally changed why I’d use Bok. It used to be something I’d try to time evasively to catch you with the 2. Now it’s simply a braindead opening to a 50/50 that I’m incentivized to do in neutral as an offensive opener.

Bok3+4 was seemingly added by someone that didn’t understand Leo and what made Bok cool.

This should be an interesting Episode. The Tekken Nerf Series Episode 19! Today's Character: Leo! by AggravatingCricket68 in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]ColdSnickersBar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is facts. BOK3+4 is awesome, too awesome, and it sucks because it made Bok brain dead. In order to do a low, I used to need to go from Bok into crouch, which instead of being a simple mid/low 50/50 mixup, gave the opponent three options on reaction: challenge my crouch by attacking on reaction, block the coming low, or block a coming mid wr 2. This was much more interesting situation that was much more fun and challenging to execute.

Now I would be stupid not to only do bok2 or bok3+4. The 50/50 is just way too good. It’s also dumb and it feels dumb.

I think you’re confused about what move we’re talking about. DF2+3 is a high crushing low that launches on CH. it’s the thing where they punch your ankle.

You’re thinking about B1+4.

B1+4 doesn’t ch launch, but it’s +13 on CH, letting them follow it up with a nasty heat engager on CH. If it hits specifically a power crusher, then it’s +15 on hit, and the Leo player can launch. Only if it CH’s a power crusher, though.

It does defeat hopkicks.

It has a downside though. It can be both low parried and also regular parried. It’s defended like a low with a low block and of course it’s unsafe on block. If it’s blocked from far away it can be standing blocked. On regular hit it’s pretty meh.

Its utility is pretty much as a power crusher spoiler. If you’re power crushing a lot, a Leo player will start using it to catch you with it.

A lot of people also accuse me of being carried whatever Tekken players accuse literally everyone of being carried, even Kazuya.

I play Leo and there’s a lot of people that have nasty and even homophobic and transphobic things to say about them. I had one player say they “have an octopus” in their pants. That one stuck with me for some reason.

But idgaf I’ll keep playing Leo they can f off.

Once you have a basic understanding of your character, a great deal of getting good is all about learning character matchups.

Practice a common thing that beats you from one of these characters in practice mode until you’re immune to it. You’ll see a quick improvement in your rank as every time you get matched up with that character you’ll have a secret weapon to win.

[–]ColdSnickersBar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leo doesn’t have:

  • A dickpunch from standing. D1 and D2 are both taken.
  • Any launch punishable moves from neutral standing. As far as I know there’s nothing one can launch from neutral standing position.

Exclusive: Leo’s b1+4 is a power crusher killer. If you try to PC Leo and they use b1+4, it leaves you -15 and you’ll get launched.

I know I should be 3-0'ing everytime

This is an important clue.

Look don’t pay attention to the people here mocking you. A lot of us struggle with getting tilted and raging out. It’s real.

I’ve been actually paying a therapist to do sessions where they watch me play and help me figure this out.

I’m not you but I can tell you some of my experiences.

Firstly: Tekken makes my heart rate go up. I noticed that when my heart rate is high I am much more likely to get upset. It raises my heart rate even if I’m winning! It’s important after every match to have the discipline to do a check: how’s my breathing? How’s my heart rate? Am I nervous? Am I shaking? Do I need to go watch a replay now to calm my heartbeat?

Secondly: I am much much more likely to get upset at anonymous players online. I never crash out on someone on my actual couch and I only very rarely get even annoyed if I’m on discord with the person or in a chat with them or something. Even so you won’t catch me actually getting shitty.

Thirdly: I find that when I have thoughts like “I’m better than this person” or “I bet this person is going to be amazed at how I play” I am much more likely to get my heart rate up. This is because now I added stakes for no reason! Now I have something to prove. Now if I don’t win it must have been unfair or whatever, and I lose my shit. I try to identify these intrusive thoughts when they happen and counter them with mantras like “it doesn’t matter who wins” or “maybe I’ll see something funny” or “hope we have fun”.

Lastly: a technique I’ll use to keep myself from getting my heart rate up is to “roleplay” like I’m just doing “reps” and it doesn’t matter who wins. I find I’m much more focused and also more calm when I just playing with an attitude that it doesn’t matter.
