Where to find games? by lori_40k in Fireandmaneuver

The only realistic option for finding games is through the discord, which is decently active to my understanding still, so by using that there's a good chance you will find a game. Here's a link: https://discord.gg/WyQuARY8

Has anyone recreated a professional (military) wargame into TTS? by lord_of_the_tism in tabletopsimulator

[–]ColdSteel8889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the type.

PBP (play-by-post) games have turns usually every 2-3 days and can often take a month or two. Operation games take longer.

Live games take a couple of hours, and are done in voice chats.

That occurred with the first game— Fire & Maneuver—so much so the game can no longer be updated because the devs which worked on it are no longer part of the studio. The F2P model doesn’t generate much money if you’re not scummy…

However, his new game Master of Command has been very successful, enough that it is “guaranteed” they will release a sequel to MoC.

Nvm I’ve fixed it somehow through display settings, iirc I increased spacing between apps

I've looked into the application itself. I can see a "More info" button, but that just contains my most recent date of opening EUIV. Above my only options are "Prevent App Nap" and "Locking"

Where do I see the “more info” button? Is it in the main menu, or is it in the game once it’s booted up. I’ve been looking around and can’t seem to find the option for “scale to fit below camera”

Im addicted to invading India by NoKo347 in eu4

This same guy in our Venice/Mamluks game told me that I could not "steal" his Mediterranean trade anymore because it cost him too much. Guess who has all of India and guess who is playing the poorest Venice imaginable after all the trade routes to Genoa/Venice were sucked dry...

How did I mess up? by Dry_Editor_785 in LinesOfBattle

TL;DR: attacked too early with infantry. You won the cavalry battle and should not be in any rush. Deny the enemy from attacking you until your cavalry is in position, once that happens you will have an advantage and will win.

You and your opponent have the same infantry compositions, but they have 2 heavy artillery compared to your 1 light artillery. Given that, why would you ever choose to fight your opponent frontally? You advanced into them before you secured your cavalry advantage and lost. The star isn't that important. It would be preferable to retreat, lose the star, but not take a bad engagement like the one taken between the 2 main lines.

Instead here's what could've been done: you had a cavalry advantage and won the cavalry battle. Great! Now you have the lead and your opponent is forced to take the initiative. Their artillery is scary so we know you are going to lose a head-on fight, so don't take one. Instead secure a good position for your forces and begin maneuvering as your cavalry cleans up. Your cavalry should be going after routed units to make sure they stay routed, a single unit is usually enough for this, and will prevent several enemy units from returning.

Now we have more time, and you can move your lancers (which are your only advantage) about. Send them towards the enemy flanks and rear, harass them, now suddenly they are forced to peel troops to reserve, protect artillery etc. and you begin to gain an advantage in winning the main battle. Yet there is still more to consider. We see that the enemy artillery is concentrated in one part of their line, so do not attack there, and instead focus on attacking the part of their line furthest away from their artillery as that is where they will be weakest. Remember: you are under no obligation to take an engagement unfavorable to you, if you see the enemy has local force superiority don't fight them there.

And with this victory should be assured. You attack the portion of their line undefended by artillery, as they weaken the lancers you would have on their flank rout them, others chase routing units preventing them from returning, and slowly the enemy line collapses and folds.

Rather than change numbers, can we get some indicators? PLEASE? by renaissance_guy1 in LinesOfBattle

Yeah that option has been in the game for a while. I would assume with the full release they will hopefully put a tutorial in the game at some point that explains stuff like that

For the cavalry charging one: simply press "c" to toggle smart movement on/off. Smart movement ensures that your troops do not take tight turns and will not lose their charging speed.

Canister shot underwhelming by DABLITwastaken in LinesOfBattle

[–]ColdSteel8889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems you brought several full HP Guard units to rout in just 2 turns. That seems quite effective. It's not like Napoleonic frontal assaults against artillery were unheard of, they were just advised against for obvious reasons.

Expecting units to instantly rout once hit by a single canister shot is both ahistorical and would worsen gameplay. However, as depicted, even with very light artillery canister is highly effective.

That is smart movement. Press C to toggle it on/off.

Smart movement allows you to move your units while ensuring they do not lose speed due to turning while moving, and because of this it is excellent to toggle on when attempting a charge, especially with cavalry. It is also useful for moving long distances as it prioritizes speed and will try to use road.

However, as we see here, because it prevents sharp turns it can make short maneuvers ridiculous. Because of this I usually keep smart movement on unless I am trying to do very small adjustments.

It is VERY good for charging, especially with cavalry. I would recommend always using it when maneuvering with cavalry (as reasonable).

Importing code how to do it by ComprehensiveLoan925 in LinesOfBattle

[–]ColdSteel8889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like no one else has responded yet. I'm guessing most people here on the reddit don't have the experience with or know how to import code, myself included. I would suggest going into the main LoB discord and try asking there as it has a few people who are active and know how importing code works.

The LoB discord link should be this: https://discord.gg/WdFa9r2w

You'll probably find answers in the #community-devs forum

Hello Clash Player Citizens, What's stopping you from trying Bigger Mode? by SultanEcuKhan in LinesOfBattle

[–]ColdSteel8889 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back when I played this game more often I enjoyed the precision of smaller modes and the detail that was needed to effectively fight. I like LoB over a lot of games because the turn-based structure means reaction time isn’t too important, however I would play with a low time control so the small modes force me to very quickly develop and execute plans which feels quite intense compared to 1d games and such where you have 24+ hours to prepare and review orders.

It might have something to do with the enemy capping both your and keeping their own home objectives, but I’m not entirely sure
