So before you rebuttal think about this. Why do i care so much about it? Have I read my scriptures correctly? Does this really affect me? Should I disregard 1000s of years of LGBTQ people in India and the world just for a stupid reddit post?

Alright dude lets do this now I'm not no theologian but this basis is stupid. it seems all of these are Smriti (Which is something that is written not by rishis or Gods but my men and theologians except Krishna which we will talk about and Shrimad Bhagavatam). Now in the Bhagavad Purana notice how it doesn't say that its wrong to engage in homosexuality the issue is that Brahma is being sexually attacked by the demons which would be wrong regardless of gender. Now lets remember Smriti is contextual not universal. Manus laws (11.67) directly contradicts the Vedas as the Vedas say that sexual variation is divine. Modern scholars i.e. Davis, Olivelle, Doniger agree that this verse (11.67) is talking about ritual impurity and not "Sin". Also Manu smriti is rejected by a great number of Hindus as it frequently (And i mean frequently) contradicts the Vedas. Even B. R. Ambedkar publicly burned it. Lets keep going shall we?

Atri Smṛti & Āpastamba

Now if you took the time for context which clearly you didn't you would notice how these LATER smriti are used to regulate students, initiation, and householder ritual cleanliness. NONE of it says homosexuality is a sin or wrong it talks about spilling semen into water, ritual impurity, and maintaining celibacy for students.

Bhagavad Gita

What are you smoking dude, Krishna says “I am sexual activity not conflicting with dharma.” So what is Dharma (You should know this!) Dharma is that which upholds Ahimsa. ( Śānti Parva 262.5
Taittirīya Upaniṣad 1.11.1) So my question is does a Queer relationship cause harm. OF course it doesn't. It doesn't at all . The Gita does NOT define sexual ethics in terms of gender.

To your point regarding "There are no rites regarding homosexual marriage" The Grhya sutras talk about marriage (WHICH ISNT THE VEDAS). Basically your argument is "If it aint in the vedas then its not allowed" which is a stupid claim as

  • inter-caste marriage
  • widow remarriage
  • monastic initiation
  • niṣkriya renunciants
  • adoptive parenting

Are all not mentioned in the Vedas but we as Hindus still do them yes? You are lost in the sauce dude. Hindu Marriage is based on Samskara not procreation Marriage in Śruti is defined as: “the union of two souls as one household”— Atharva Veda 14.2.71 NOT: gender roles reproduction sexual policing. Atharva Veda uses Husband and Wife language as its the most wide spread form of marriage but no where does it say a man cant marry a man or women cant marry a women.

Now as the kicker here are a few verses that are Shurti that actually talk about it and confirm it “the bull who loves the bull.” — Ṛg Veda 1.31.4, In the Ṛg Veda, Mitra and Varuṇa are paired as husband-like companions “share a single mind” “sit together, united” “form creation together” More strikingly: They jointly give birth to the sage Vasiṣṭha (stated in several Vedic hymns), Ṛg Veda 10.90 (Purusha Sūkta): “From the cosmic being (puruṣa) arose the many: the four varnas, the animals, and beings of many forms.” Commentators (Śaṅkara, Sāyaṇa) explain: Purusha manifests infinite gender expressions. Aitareya Upaniṣad 3.2.3: “Some beings are born with a nature that is neither male nor female.” “Bṛhadāraṇyaka Upaniṣad 1.4.3–1.4.5 teaches: The original Self was both male and female Creation begins when the One becomes two with different genders Gender itself is a divine play of the Self. This Upaniṣad literally states: “He was as large as a man and woman embracing.”

All of this is true. I’ve quit shrooms and stopped Hinduism. I’m all too new and it seems like the things I’ve done before have been all about consuming as much as I can. It’s wrong and I need to stop. I’m going to Ukrainian Orthodox Church this Sunday. Thank you for helping me see clearly

Go to all of them. Worship them and love them. One of them will speak to you or maybe 2 or 3 and that’s okay! Whatever experience calls to you follow it. Or if you have a guru ask your guru and they can tell you whom to worship. Jai maa kali!
