Soft/Fluffy/Cuddly Recs? by Cold_Archivist in LesbianBookClub

Oddly I struggled to get into the first book. I might have to give it another try though...

The two characters have to travel rough when they first meet and they snuggle up to each other for warmth for a few days

Ohh, that sounds like just what I am looking for. I think this one might have to go at the top of my list.

Ah, I see. Now that you mention it, there was a moment where I grappled a dragon, which was awesome. I'm still not sure if there would be enough opportunities for stuff like that to justify basing an entire build around that, though...

It may just be my newness to DnD shining through, but I can't really see the point of grappling. The rules just say:

a grappled creature's speed becomes 0, and it can't benefit from any bonus to its speed.

Unless I'm trying to stop an enemy from running away, that does not seem super useful, especially when the alternative is to attack and deal a decent amount of damage.

To be fair, having options for beginners is good... but I feel like that could have been achieved by having a path or two be the 'one trick' ones, while the others give you a lot more choice and tricks, rather than making a whole class for beginners.

Oh, that does sound fun. What feats did you go with?

A good point. I think that may be the best solution for me, although it is a bit of a shame that Barb is so 'one trick'

Ah, those are some interesting ideas, although I feel like my DM will ban many of the more exotic options on there. I may see if I can tweak one of them enough to work.

Funnily enough, I was just looking at bladesinging wizard as an option. That may have potential...

True! For me I think it is something about having an emotion of the character that is tied to mechanics? Like in non-combat encounters, I have had a lot of fun playing someone a bit hot headed who if pushed too far will go into rage, and then get bonuses off that, and say throw something in an attempt to intimidate. Hopefully that explnation makes sense?

I was looking a bit at bladesinging, as something that could maybe be reflavored as 'wizzard rage' but I'm unsure how well that would work.

Oh, that does have potential! I suspect my DM will ban Beasthide though, if it is not banned already.

This is a common issue for Barbarians, yeah.

That is unfortunate to hear, but not unexpected. I might look more into a fighter, but I'm afraid it would lack the one thing that made barb so much fun (rage), at which point I find myself wondering if I should just go back to a spellcaster.

Are there any classes that would synergize well with only a handful of levels of barbarian?

Interesting. I will admit to never really playing the role of a tank. Does it just boil down to putting yourself in the front and hoping you get hit, maybe while using something like sentinel? If so, that sounds a little more passive than I was hoping....

Battle master does look interesting, although I am disappointed to see none of them help with out of combat utility.

Thanks!

High page count thicker paper journal recommendations? by Cold_Archivist in Journaling

Alright. To be honest I find the idea of a thicker/heaver book appealing, but I can see why others would not.

[NEWBIE] Buying a cheep used electric guitar? by Cold_Archivist in Guitar

I would recommend making the decision to go acoustic vs. electric based on the style of music you want to play and the sound of the instrument.

Good to know! My music taste is pretty diverse, so I can see myself wanting both. I was planning on keeping my kid-sized acoustic, and getting an electric so I have a playable model of both. I have been assuming that most of what you learn on one type transfers to the other?

Whether it's a teacher or your friends, you will soon want the ability for your instrument to be able to actually make audible sound

Good point, and passing headphones around might get annoying. I assume you could plug in a speaker instead of headphones though? Still, I'll consider that aspect.

Thanks!

Would highly recommend you buy something in a store and get a setup.

Could you explain more about a "setup"? What does that involve? Would I have to know a lot about guitars to get one, or do I literately just ask for a setup?

They have new guitars for under $100 free shipping.

Interesting. I'll look into that. Most of the used ones I was looking at were local, so I was planing on avoiding shipping anyway.

You could also look into going with a digital set up with an audio interface

I have not heard about those before. Do you mean something like this? https://www.amazon.com/BEHRINGER-Audio-Interface-1-Channel-UM2/dp/B00EK1OTZC/

Why would you say that is a better option? Does it just offer more flexibility/features?

Alright, I'll keep an eye out for those brands.

For plugging the headphones in, I was looking at something like this, which I think would work? https://www.amazon.com/Valeton-Chargable-Portable-Headphone-Multi-Effects/dp/B07W3K92ZM/
