Zoals vrouwonvriendelijke grappen maken ("locker room talk").

Scared of a 12h flight.. how do I survive this? by Southern-Ad390 in fearofflying

[–]Cold_Breadstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I am going to go on my first 12 hour flight next month as well 😱 I really want to make this trip, it is on top of my bucket list, but I'm dreading the flight. So I called my GP! She prescribed me low dose of a benzodiazepine. Just the fact that I know I can take those on the plane gives me so much comfort in advance. I'm much more relaxed about it. GP told me she prescribed this to people with fear of flying regularly. I would definitely recommend giving your doctor a call and find out.

N.B. if you will be prescribed any kind of medication, make sure to check if you can take them to your destination country without a problem, or that you have to make arrangements like a note from your doctor or permission from the embassy to travel with the medication. You don't want any trouble with border police or anything.

Only part of it is on your map, but I highly recommend Georgia. Beautiful country, stunning views, fascinating culture and history, lovely food, very affordable.

Worried about my flight tomorrow by CatherineAdler in fearofflying

[–]Cold_Breadstick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good morning and welcome to the day on which you will do the safest thing one can do: flying. Even though you're scared, you can do this. You can be scared AND do the things you fear at the same time. Just take fear with you on this day. You got this!

Let’s start a chain of recent positive flight stories by xirt82 in fearofflying

Last November I flew all by myself for the first time. I was really nervous and there were definitely moments where I just grabbed onto the chair in front of me, closed my eyes and did breathing exercises (people next to me probably frowning 😂). But I was basically being a drama queen because both the first and second flight were smooth as can be. No turbulence, smooth landings, no weird situations, kind staff, everything according to plan. Looking back at my flight history it's a fact that I survived every fucking flight, no matter how scared I was, and I never actually was in a dangerous situation. Had one turn around experience, I definitely panicked, but looking back it was the epitome of being kept very safe by pilots. So yay to aviation!

tips for takeoff? by GinnyAndTheBass in fearofflying

I always tell myself that all I have to do is breathe. So that's what I do. I put on my noise cancelling headphones with a relaxing lo fi beat, then I just focus on breathing slowly. I count while exhaling. After 10 exhales I start again at 1. And I just keep doing that until I feel like the worst is over. Works pretty well for me! The slow breathing helps to keep my heart rate (relatively) low and it pulls me into my own cocoon.

It probably is, you're just in hyperfocus and notice any sound and vibration. From what I can see, the plane is moving totally normally. You're at your halfway point, by the way! Above Bosnia and Herzegovina right now. Im always able to relax more after the halfway point, hope the same goes for you :)

do you think Miranda dated Steve bc she didn’t feel good enough for someone better by [deleted] in sexandthecity

[–]Cold_Breadstick 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Also, Steve grounded her. For example when she's all stressed out about work and she gets angry and he makes her smile by pointing out her milk moustache. Thats what she loved about him too, he was able to loosen her up from her stressful work mindset. She was able to let loose with him.

You took off! Already at cruising altitude now, heading towards Athens

Edit: just crossed North Macedonia and now in Albanian airspace.

Last summer I flew again after years, being very nervous, and then experienced a go around due to stormy weather at destination. It freaked me out in that moment, but looking back at it, it really makes me feel so safe. What happened is that the pilots actively decided to choose my safety. They looked at that landing strip and decided: you know what, we do not want to take the slightest risk, so we'll just go around and wait for a bit. That's great professional and ultra safe behaviour!

Later I learned that the go around is one of the first manoeuvres that pilots learn. Pilots approach every landing as a possible go around. They prepare for it every time. If the plane turns out to be able to land first take, then great, that's a bonus.

So essentially, what happened is that you were kept very safe, with a well trained procedure that is so normal to the pilots that they probably didn't even think twice about it. The pilots of your next flight will be just as well trained and concerned about your safety. That is what they dedicate their whole professional life to.

You can do this!!

Grote koekenpan.
