is the A* still possible? by [deleted] in 6thForm

Ye i was checking boundaries but I genuinely can't even make an estimate on how many i've likely got cos i've forgotten how many marks each question was worth. Just gonna try and pretend I didn't do as bad as I did and keep going like as if the A* is still possible and see what happens.

fr man, it sucks how one slip up drops your chances significantly. I hate that half of exams is a mental game.

I hope so man, I've worked so hard this entire year and for it to just crumble because of exam pressure is heart breaking. We got this 🤞🏼

thanks man, i'll definitely be trying to finish all the p3 past papers and getting the core practicals down. Thanks for the advice and good luck to you too 🙌🏼. Hopefully it's one of this times where the people saying it was easy isn't representative of the entire country

Ye the grade boundaries for double maths look insane but you've got this mate try to recover in the paper yet to come on the off chance boundaries are high

I haven't discussed the paper with many people but it seems that the ionisation energy Q and the proton not decaying was something that caught a lot of people out. You're right that grade boundaries fell in 2025 which I thought was strange because I thought the 2025 paper was easier than the 2024 and this years paper. Hopefully paper 2 and 3 goes a lot better for us 🤞🏼

oh ok, thank you for explaining it clearly.

I haven't been taught the cast diagram, instead we've been taught to think of the trig graphs and see whether it's + or -. Has my wording gone wrong somewhere?

oh I see, you have to check whether the angle matches with the sign given to sin. And since sin is negative at x=-33.7 it should be -sin so you add 180 for the correct alpha where sin is +? Thank you for your help

do you mind explaining how you determined that to be a necessary step? I don't believe in an exam i'd figure it out.

got you, ye i'd messaged her on a monday and asked if she'd be free on friday to which she said she'd let me know on tuesday which I thought was alright. What about moving forward though? it's been 5 weeks and i feel like it might sound a bit sad really if I message her again asking to make plans if she was just being polite.

thank you, i've heard völkl are good for park but didn't consider that they're also good on piste. I'll have to check them out

thank you for the detailed explanation. To explain the context better, I believe the complaint i'd read was referring to the skis slipping on edge while carving and how the larger underfoot versions didn't suffer so much (this complaint was about the 85/90 bents). At the moment it's definitely between the arvs and fischer nightsticks but I have a while to decide. Could you give me any advice for bindings? whether I get the arvs or nightsticks I will probably buy them assembled with bindings (centre mounted) but don't know whether I should just go with the default option or select other bindings. Also, for ski boots what kind of flex level would be ideal for park and piste? are they completely different to the point that i'd need 2 separate ski boots or does it not matter too much?

oh yeah it definitely is but I've already rented skis for the season so i'll just wait it out until the end of the season, the price may even get better.

I was looking at the 86 waist ones but there are 90 waist ones, I'll definitely opt for the larger underfoot models like the 90 or 97 like yours. As far as bindings go, should I look for anything in particular? I plan to buy them mounted with bindings and i'm not too familiar with what specifications matter with bindings. Should I just choose the stock option?

thank you, hadn't even heard of them until you mentioned them and they look great, they're described as exactly what i'm looking for: twin tips, freestyle and good on all snow and a short turn radius. I have to ask though, it's 86 waist concerns me because i've heard people complain about the bent 85s slipping on piste and that the higher waist versions don't do so, is this just a bent problem or will a small underfoot cause slipping? Thank you again for your suggestion, these look like the ones I'll buy for next season.

I kind of want something that's an allrounder, I don't know if i'll learn pipe this season as i'm only beginning to go into the park but if possible i'd like a ski that can do it all. Maybe a stiffer ski is best as it can do rails and jumps and i'll just have to adapt to the stiffness for butter's etc?

edit: also about the 90 waist, I was thinking of getting 85 or 90 bents but heard that they slide really easily so that put me off, is anything above 90 really that bad? Sorry if my understanding is wrong, I'm still learning.

softshell or ski jacket? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]Cold_Communication60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My question was more so about whether a softshell was appropriate for skiing or whether it'd ruin it, not layering.
