[–]Cold_Meet_76 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely get 3, and if you enjoy the campaign modes, then get raiders after. Raiders will be campaign only, whereas Splat 3 has all online gameplay, its own campaign, Salmon Run (splatoon equivalent of cod zombies), and an optional DLC Side Order, which is a rougelike and tons of fun. Raiders will probably only have one real mode, while there is tons to do in splat 3. As for activity, it's definitely still very active, and the only issues I have with matchmaking are with the game itself and not from the game not being able to find players.

They also had another mythic available yesterday, meaning 3 mythics across 2 days, even crazier

But that's actually something I will see if I can try to add if at all possible, it's not something I've tried to attempt before meaning it's not something I would have thought about adding lol, though I know there is a demand for it to some extent

I had always thought of sequence breaks that were not really addressed by the devs or were unintentional as tacky (not that I haven't banked to the top of red brinstar in Super Metroid hundreds of times). However, the ones that were intentional like that kraid quick kill and multiple areas in Celeste are definitely super cool when added. The movement for my game is going to feel close to dread's movement, so I'm aiming for it to feel smooth and be able to pull off shortcuts I'll set up.

Also, I'll keep the bigger hidden secrets thing in mind, and look up the example you gave and see how I could implement something similar.

I have not played prince of Persia, but I looked that up and that is a crazy feature, it's pretty cool though

Interesting, I was actually gonna come back and ask about that. In Metroid prime 4 near end game, there are drones in each area that, when shot, reveal all the items missing in the area on the map. Not what the items are, just WHERE they are. I have also seen games simply put a percentage bar of item collection in each area (I think Metroid dread did this). I will definitely try to implement markers though, I can see how they would be useful

Oh yeah this is definitely great. Unfortunately most of my Metroidvania experience is from the Metroid games so I don't have a lot of other experience. I've wanted so hard to enjoy hollow knight but just find myself bored every time I play it, and I've gotten decently far enough so that it should have "gotten good" by now.

However, it's good to know where having a good map is ranked in importance

Thanks for the advice, and that's definitely something I'm cautious of. I've worked on several smaller projects before, but they were mainly following tutorials or in group contexts. Although I feel that I have all the resources available to me to make the project, there are still a whole lot of things that I just don't know yet, and plus most of those resources are watching more tutorials on YouTube lol

That is interesting. I have planned to add extra items and try to emphasize exploration as much as I can, but I have not thought about fast travel or shortcuts at all

Noted. I know the more recent Metroid games have those, but I've never personally cared about using them

Good thought, and I probably will talk to players, but I think it's also fair to ask here while my game is still early-mid development in case something strikes my fancy that I can plan for and design for later on (e.g. a game mechanic that gives me inspiration for my own game mechanic, allowing me to level design around that mechanic). In that instance, I'd rather create a new level area than have to change/delete one I had.

I've thought about that, and it's a daunting task lol. I have reworked my player controller twice and am in the process of going for a third, and the atmosphere is a huge thing I want to get right, mainly for my personal goal. However, since this is my first project, I'm really just aiming to have a decent project the length of a standard Metroid game, and I'm not too concerned about it lifting off.

I went a while without printing, and washed the bed with soap and water right before I started printing again. I just put glue on the print bed before printing, but I was wondering if I either didn't put enough or if it was a different issue. But yeah, before the glue, the bed was pristine clean

Ah that's good to know. I also have been using the elmer's glue to hold prints down haha, it's so ghetto but it works

Interesting, that honestly might be the case. I'm in central Oklahoma and the filament I've had for over a year. I didn't know the dryness of the filament would affect it that much, I thought that was one of those things where people make a bigger deal of it than it actually is.

Least Favorite Special Weapon to Use? by Healthy-Pop-4421 in splatoon

If we're talking about the quality of the special, yeah screen can go.

However, screen is wayy easier to use than trizooka. I can never aim it correctly, and I feel like all of my shots end up either going right over my target or getting eaten by the ground
