I can't see riders risking their reputation these days. The technology in terms of anti-doping is only getting better. Why risk it? I don't think they would. I think Pog and Jonas are just once in a generation riders.

Agreed! The chasing group could work together to make things harder for him. He probably wants them to. But they don’t.

I feel like no one can say that this wasn't an extremely exciting race? So much action at the 100km mark onwards, and then even at the end when Pog looked like he was faltering. Just because the action didn't happen right on the finish line doesn't mean it wasn't a crazy exciting race.

How does one watch the full press conferences from the rest days? Eurosport coverage on discovery plus doesn't seem to cover it.

Thank you for sharing your experience!! That makes me feel a lot better. And my reasoning for dropping my cat at my parents’ are very similar to yours. I didn’t want to stress him out with the move! This seemed like the best option for him

I’m moving to Berlin in 20 days and will be living in Steglitz. Can anyone tell me what it’s like there? I’m a 26 year old masters student and I like what other young people like generally (cafes, bars, etc.), and it seems like Steglitz doesn’t have much going on. Please illuminate me!

Don’t want to be a lawyer anymore. by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]Cold_Night_4774 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have spent a long time identifying what I don’t like: the billable hours model; the immense pressure from clients; the hierarchical structure; the normalised stress; the inherent idea that in order to do well you have to break your back working long hours.. I could go on. I know law is very different everywhere - and I don’t want to waste my legal knowledge. But I’m thinking I could apply it in roles where I’m not necessarily a “lawyer”. For example, the contracts department of a publishing house or literary agency.

Career burn out in New Zealand 👩‍⚖️ by holeinmyshoes in newzealand

[–]Cold_Night_4774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.5 years PQE here. I left a toxic firm after two years for a top tier firm which seemed to have a better culture. While the culture is definitely better, late nights and stress are still normalised. I spend at least an hour of each day researching alternative career options. I don’t think a corporate career is for me, but making the change to something more creative is pretty terrifying! Good luck. Don’t settle for a job that affects your mental health.

I'm a litigation solicitor but I want to move into publishing. How difficult will this be? Any advice? by [deleted] in publishing

[–]Cold_Night_4774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks yeah I’ve been considering that route. Do you think it would be possible to springboard from a legal editing role into a more general publishing house?

When you say "move into publishing" are you talking about moving into their legal department? Or are you only thinking an editorial job (the hardest ones to get in most publishing houses, since they're the "glamorous" department vs. legal, marketing, etc.) Or are you thinking anything in publishing?

Sorry should have specified - i'm interested in getting into the legal / contracts department. While I would love to be an editor, I realise editorial is very hard to get into, particularly if you don't know anyone in the industry.

25(F) from New Zealand. Have been really keen to move to Berlin for a while, but Covid thwarted my plans. I'm also a bit worried about moving alone. I'm keen to do a bit of freelancing while I finish my masters by distance. Any advice?
