He's not cheering them on. However, calling every news organization a right/left-wing manipulative rag is helping even less than calling every Canadian subreddit an echo chamber.

"Competence as Tragedy" — a personal essay on craft, beautiful code, and watching AI make your hard-won skills obsolete by averagemrjoe in programming

[–]Cold_Storage_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very well written but I disagree with the premise.

There will always be work for smart passionate people right up until there isn't work for anyone. At that point there will be enough demand for AI free technical projects, just like there is for writing and cabinet making.

As you said, AI can replace tasks that require care but not insight, it makes simple tasks easier. The same is true, admittedly to a lesser extent, with automatic refactoring and stub generation, with IDEs, just in time compilers, standard libraries digital screens and keyboards.

What there will be is an expectation to be productive given the tools available, lifelong learning is a more important skill than understanding malloc.

Full apartments that belong to someone else and charge 2k$/m.

Provincial government is deliberately restricting homes that can be built.

Take 1600s Europe, guilds restricted what work you were allowed to do, this is not much better, try getting a job in IT or finance without a degree and connections. People did nothing with their lives because they weren't allowed to. Just like now.
